Enjoyed my stay at the Scotsman. Great location right by Waverly Station. You can actually take the lift up to the road and cross the Street to the Scotsman elevator. Only problem with the study room I had was on the weekend, it can be noisy since it's located on the main road and no AC so windows may have to be open. The bed is also a pullout from the wall so not the most comfortable, but for the price I paid well worth it. Best part is the attentive service from the reception staff and Ivor the doorman on duty. Always willing to help and as a single traveler I felt very safe. In a fabulous location by the Royal Mile and very safe location.

The National Gallery of Scotland and St Giles Cathedral are two blocks and Edinburgh Castle is five blocks away. Waverley Bridge railway station is opposite the hotel. Edinburgh Airport (EDI) is eight miles away.

Hotel Features. Called The Scotsman hotel because it once housed the Victorian offices of The Scotsman newspaper, the hotel was restored and converted in 2001. Original period features blend with contemporary art and furniture in the oak-panelled lobby.

North Bridge Brasserie's marble pillars and wood panelling are complemented by a dramatic steel floor and staircase. It offers street-side views and an eclectic menu. The drawing room is ideal for a quiet nightcap.

There are 11 meeting rooms for up to 100 people, business services and wireless Internet access throughout (surcharge).

The Scotsman Hotel's health club features a spa with five rooms offering a variety of treatments using Cowshed products (surcharge). There is a 15-metre indoor pool complete with slate-tiled surround, and a large fitness room. The Scotsman Hotel also has an aerobics studio, sauna, steam room and solarium.

Guestrooms. The Scotsman Hotel's 69 guestrooms combine modern, neutral tones with tweed fabrics. Serving hatches mean that room service need not disturb guests. Expert Tip. Tours of Edinburgh's old underground vaults leave several times a day from the Tron Kirk, less than a block from the hotel.
