If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city (we are from NYC) and don't mind walking into town (Spanish Steps are about 20 minutes walking), this is the place for you. Villa Borghese is just next door. Old world charm, intimate, large soaking tub, and good concierge service (nice recommendation on local restaurant around the corner). They cleaned our room every time we stepped out (in the morning, for dinner, out for shopping). Very nice complimentary continental breakfast with fresh baked goods, yogurt, fruit, eggs, bacon, cereal, prosciutto, cheeses. The door man was a bit lazy, but we enjoyed our stay.

Nice, clean & cozy hotel, good for relaxation & quiet, but not for tourism. Too far to go shopping or visiting for a few hours Then come back & rest, then go back out. It can be done but it will cost 40-50 Euros a day for taxis. SWe would have preferred to be closer to the center of Rome where all the action is.

Location. The Art Deco Hotel Lord Byron in Rome, Italy, borders the Borghese gardens in the exclusive Parioli neighbourhood. The Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, and Via Condotti and Via Veneto's shops are two kilometres away, ten minutes by complimentary shuttle. The closest metro station is Flaminio.

Hotel Features. Set in a 1930s patrician villa, the hotel has marble steps and a white-gloved doorman. Art Deco touches including silver light fixtures decorate the lobby. There are fresh flowers and books in the lounge.

Mirrored walls, octagonal tables and high-backed chairs furnish the Art Deco-style restaurant, serving Italian dishes such as pasta rolls with trout and black truffle sauce. In the late-night Il Salotto Lounge and Wine Bar, guests can enjoy Mediterranean cuisine and cocktails in a 1930s-style setting with mirrors, striped carpets, deep-red fabric chairs and dark wood furnishings. Original art from the owner's collection decorates the bar. The hotel serves evening port and petits fours and complimentary buffet breakfast.

The hotel has meeting rooms, business services, complimentary newspapers and complimentary valet parking.

There is a rooftop garden at the hotel. Guests enjoy discounts at a nearby fitness centre.

Guestrooms. The Hotel Lord Byron's 32 climate-controlled guestrooms feature 1930s-inspired interiors, floor-length curtains and mahogany or rosewood furniture. Some rooms have balconies with garden or city views. All include satellite television, dial-up Internet ports, minibars, and complimentary bottled water. Traditional paintings decorate the vintage-marble bathrooms, which contain bathrobes and slippers.

Expert Tip. Atypically for Rome, early 20th-century works of art by Northern European artists, part of the owner's private collection, are displayed throughout the hotel.
