Needs upgrading

The hotel needs to be redecorated or upgraded. No ambience whatsoever. The room was well priced and comfortable. Bathroom is too close to bed and bath towels need to be upgraded. The reception staff were friendly and helpful. All other staff were unprofessional. Lively bar.

4 Stars. Huh?

I don't get it. How does this hotel rate 4 stars? I mean, things were generally okay as far as you would expect from a dark, dumpy little downtown hotel. The staff was just there to do their job and not all that convincing that they cared much whether they had guests or not. It would have been a good 2 star hotel. Maybe. It's okay for the price which was low.

Not recommended

The hotel room itself was small. The bed was very comfortable, but the halls and room had a unpleasant oder. Found out 2 days after checking out that the hotel charged $200 to my credit card. I had to spend time dealing with the issue. They did not help with the situation. I had to dispute the charge with the bank. I won't stay here again.

Very very dissapointed!

This hotel was given 4 1/2 stars. Should have 2 at the most. Very bad customer service, could barely speak english, very unfriendly. The room we had was a little bigger than a bathroom. Hotel restaurant was closed on Sunday, of all days! I had to pay $20 for parking a day and nowhere did it say anything about parking when I booked the room. I would never stay here again and I have no idea why it was given 4 stars.

Not what we expected

It was very nice inside and out, don't get me wrong,very nice! When the sun went down, we did not know there was a Club in the restaurant! The music was so loud, we were on the top floor, and you could clearly hear all the noise from the music to the people talking and laughing outside in the coutyard. I was not able to sleep until about 2:30 am!!!! Not at all what I had expected!!

Needs transparancy

Hotel is nice overall . The room in general was very comfortable and nicely done.. Staff friendly and accommodative But a couple of points that they could look into... The corridors had a persisting bad odor the whole time .. Management could extend complimentary bottle(s) of water for the guests at least for the first day of stay. Being charged $20 additional for parking your car overnight.. wow .. that came as a surprise .. feel benefits of booking thru Hotels.com is lost on the price factor. Would have for sure chosen another hotel if i had known of this before. ( parked the vehicle elsewhere to save this - we stayed for 3 days ) And yes if the stay is over the weekend .. one has to be prepared for this - neighborhood was way too noisy right into the early hours of the morning ..

Take your ear plugs

The disco on the bottom floor went to 2 am. The bass was so loud we waited till it was closed to go to sleep. Our room rattled. By the way: We were on the THIRD Floor & the disc was on the first. I would recommend the top floor as a minimum.

Awful place to stay

My wife and I stayed at the hotel this past Saturday night. Prior to booking a room at your hotel we took a tour and were impressed with how quaint it seemed. As a result we chose to book a night there and spend the evening in Downtown San Jose for our first date night since our son was born a year and a half ago. The evening was pleasant until we came back to the hotel shortly after midnight. It turns out that the hotel neglected to tell us that it becomes a noisy nightclub on weekends. We had to go though the "club line" just to get into the hotel. I also note that there was no security at the elevator, so any club-goer could have accessed the hotel rooms. We went up to our room only to be blasted out by the loud bass. I called to complain and after waiting 15 minutes and calling the front desk 3 times--apparently we were not the only guests asking to be moved to a quieter room--we were switched to a different Room. Although the new room was larger, the noise was even worse. More off putting than that were the dirty towels thrown on the ground in the bathroom. I assume this was probably someone else's room prior to requesting to be changed due to noise. Things were actually vibrating in the bathroom. I called again--waiting about 10 minutes before an unpleasant manager came up to show us another room. After seeing a slightly quieter room on the 4th floor and requesting a refund because it was now 1 am and our night was ruined, the night manager said our only option was to check out. This clearly was not an option, although it was considered. But he did add that the loud music would "only" go until 1:30am. However, he did not factor the yelling and screaming from the patio that would take place for the next half hour as the club emptied. At 9:30am, only 8 hours after our last room change, we checked out. I went downstairs and requested to speak with the hotel manager. I was told that you would not be in until Monday. Good facilities, poor staff

The hotel was wonderfully centrally located in downtown San Jose with very easy access to mass transportation, restaurants, and bars. My main complaint with this place is the staff was inattentive and misinformed about their surroundings. Some examples: The wake-up call was almost 15 minutes late, and directions from the concierge to the restaurant where I was meeting friends sent me in the opposite direction. Otherwise a nice place with a comfortable bed and nice facilities.

Needs Improvement

I was very disappointed with the service that I received when checking into the hotel. I got charged an additional $30 per day for a DD bed. I didn't stay there for 2 nights and came back on the last day to check out and got charged $20 per day for parking. I disputed with the front desk but they're doing an investigation. All these ridiculous charges when I wasn't even staying there. I prepaid and still end up paying almost $200 more. I would never ever stay in this hotel again. As much as I travel, this was the worst experience.

Good hotel for students

This hotel is located close to a college and Friday night opens Disco and young adults flood in. Close to highway, but you have to pay for parking. Adding the parking cost, breakfast foods in the lobby, each charging price to be paid to front, and not many eating places early in the morning (before 9am or 10am) nor after 9pm, activities choices are limited. Good for students who has bicycle/scooters, maybe.

Disappointed

I was very excited to be staying at the Hotel Montomery but was very disappointed by the service and quality of the hotel. Many hotels allow their guests to check in early if it is possible. The day before my scheduled check in I was hung up on 4 seperate times by a very rude employee. He yelled Hello! hello! very loudly one of the times. I gave up trying to check in early at that point. I specifically requested a non-smoking room however the room I recieved smelled quite strongly of smoke. I paid a lot of money and I dont think I got what I paid for, I would not stay here again.
