Doubletree Hotel Chicago Magnificent Mile

needs improvement

Two night stay with no fresh towels or room cleaning until we requested it. When we asked for trash to be picked up, we were given trash can liners and emptied the trash ourselves. We requested baby cribs two days before arrival and had to repeat the request upon arrival. One of the two rooms was not ready at the 3:00pm promised time.

parking

parking is outrageous. they charged me twice for 48 hrs when i only stayed 36 hours.

Slowest Elevators Ever

It would take up to 6 minutes to get an elevator and most times it was completely full. With 26 floors you could not take the stairs. There were 4 elevators and it always took forever.

Ok for business

This hotel is several blocks from the train station and several blocks from the Navy Pier. The hotel is very nice and I'm sure works well for clients on business. I however, had two children. The indoor also was closed 1 month ago and I was stuck in a hotel with nothing to do with my children after 9pm.

Great location and beds, but room itself was very dirty

If there is one thing I judge a hotel by, it's the cleanliness of the room, specifically the bathroom. There was hair all over the floor and shower, something had spilled and not been properly scubbed and the garbage was disgusting. The walls in the room had something yucky splashed on them and the carpet had not been vacuumed. We almost asked for a different room, except that we were in a rush. The beds were wonderful and the service at the dront desk was great, so I'll give them credit for that, but will not recommend based on the room itself.

Rooms not ready when they say they are

We arrived to the hotel to find that a Latin American Soccer time was also staying there. They had an enormous fan base staying there with them and they were all checking in at the same time we were. Unfortunately we were delayed in getting our room by 2.5 hours due to the staff trying to accomodate the fans. I had 3 very sleepy and ready for naps kids to tend to and found it very frustrating to not be able to get a room when they said it would be possible. The room was small and crowded and wasn't very kid friendly either. They didn't specifically state they had only an outdoor pool, which on our stay was way too cold for and disappointing to the family.

Hotel Staff

I was a very disappointed in the hotel staff and their desire to be helpful, specially the front desk and concierge. First of all, I arrived 1 hour after check in BUT my room was still not cleaned! When I came back 2 hours later they first told me my room was still not ready but they had a non-lake view, 2 queen beds available. I had reserved and paid for a king bed, lake view. The concierge desk closed at 5pm, I only found out when I went to get help - that is something they should make guests aware of at check in. The folks at the front desk were not eager to help in anyone’s absence. The only folks that were helpful were the 2 gentlemen at the bell desk. Apparently there were some unhappy staff due to hour cuts; in my opinion the hotel management is not handling things well, negative employees should not be in front of the customer! It is too bad because their location is great and rooms average!

sister"s wwekend in chicago

Although my sister and I were mostly satisfied with our stay, it probably won't be a return in the future. Room was small, but adequate. No sitting chair, but a desk chair available. Very clean and comfortable beds, but tub drained slowly and dripped our entire stay. No reception on our tv, but with a phone call a technician was up within 10 minutes. On one night we had no phone service. Our lakeview was merely a far away glimpse. Not worth any extra dollars. Pool was located far away into an adjacent building with undesirable hours and a fee not disclosed on website. My sister and I looked forward to the jacuzzi after a day of shopping only to find they close at 5:30 on weekends. The morning after when we arrived at the pool, we found the jacuzzi drained and empty with a yellow caution sign around it. DISAPPOINTING! I will say staff is most friendly and helpful. Do not eat at the restaurant there for sunday breakfast unless you want to pay through the nose. Better yet, eat across the street at West Egg Cafe. Great food and prices. Although price was good, I wouldn't mind spending a little extra in nicer hotel amenities next time I plan a weekend in chicago. And I wouldn't plan it on weekend before St. Patrick's day as we were awoke at 4:00 AM from an adjoining room extremely loud. That was the night our room phone was not working and we had to wait it out. Did"nt want to be killjoys, but after an hour, we did want to sleep!

misrepresented

The pictures told about a pool and exercise area that is available, however they failed to tell me that there was a $15 per person charge for that service.

Not what we expected

We were disappointed in our stay with doubletree. We paid extra for a lake view and could see Lake Michigan if we stood at the corner of the room and looked between two buildings. The room had no chair except the desk chair. So we had to sit on the beds to read or relax. The pool closed at 6PM on Saturday, so no evening swim and jacuzzi. Overall disappointment.

The hotel itself was very nice as evidenced in my responses above. We purposely ate dinner early anticipating coming back to the hotel and swimming for a while. We had our 10 yr old daughter and 12 yr old son with us. The pool closes @ 6 pm on Sat and Sun evenings. I couldn't believe it! At a national hotel chain? I mean, who does that? The front desk did comp us a movie, but we were very disappointed! We couldn't swim the next am as we were leaving @ 8 am. Nice hotel, great staff (and cookies!), but I sure wouldn't stay there again - especially with kids in tow! :(

reccomendations

Nice location but hotel is not very efficient. It takes long time to check in. While checking in counter person got interuppted many times to take phone call. I would think they would honor the person at the desk before taking care of person on phone. My room was not cleaned one night as well. overall I say they need to reconsider who the customer is and try to exceed expectations versus getting by.
