Trip Type: With Friends Review 2 of 35Do not stay here
We paid an enormous amount of money for two nights at an inadequate hotel. It must have been the hottest two days London has seen because they were warning everyone to carry water. This hotel has no air conditioning in the rooms. For two Americans, air conditioning is a must especially when it's hot. The lack of airconditioning created a miserable stay. We also had to do laundry, and they charged an insane fee for each article. Would never stay here again, or recommend anyone else to stay here.

Bed was very small, pillows were hard and uncomfortable. The room was not clean enough. Dust was all around the tv.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 4 of 35Keep one eye closed
This was my third time at this hotel, last time was 5 years ago. The hotel is now run down. The room carpet was dirty and the bed was shabby and the mattress showed it was in dire need of replacement. Great location but keep one eye closed if you want to overlook the room conditions

Trip Type: Business Review 5 of 35horrid experience
We had two issues with this hotel: front desk service and the extremely small room size that made the room uncomfortable (in addition to the hard, lumpy bed...) 1. We had booked a superior class room; at checkin , there were none available. Rather than explain the situation and offer to rectify the problem the next day, we were just checked into the lower grade room and had to create a lot of hassle before were upgraded the next day. 2. Rooms are SMALL. No room for a chair. The smallest hotel room I have ever stayed in. Inadequate for 2 people.

Trip Type: Business Review 6 of 35Underwhelmed my very basic expectations
Looked great on the website - arrived in the lobby after running the gauntlet of smokes clustered around the door, the receptionist was fairly pleasant and was reticent when she answered yes to my "I thought the hotel was recently refurbished?". If it was then recently means maybe 20 years ago - the room I had was scruffy, the furniture chipped and scratched, the bath was so old and tired there was no shine left in the enamel and the tile grout looked very grubby. I like to find what I expect - and use this site a great deal for my rooms in London and Frankfurt. If it was summer, no airconditioning and small windows at the top of the building would have made it very uncomfortable.

Trip Type: Family Review 7 of 35Not "a Palace"
Stayed at The Strand Palace Nov. 2008 - and while the location is good, the service and hotel conditions were somewhat less-than-expected for what I paid. My view was of other interior walls - and a dead pigeon, caught in some wire. And, after a day out sightseeing, I returned to a hotel with only one working elevator - and had to climb 6 flights of stairs up and down for dinner. Staff was 'adequate' - but not always pleasant.

Trip Type: Romance Review 8 of 35Serves some people's needs
If you need a hotel in the middle of a busy part of London...this will serve. It's like any hotel in NY. Lots of rooms located down highly-trafficked, if-not ratty looking hallways. The room was small, modern-dorm-style with a TV mounted on a wall. The breakfast buffet was simply brutal, but to be fair, we got there almost toward the end. This hotel will serve some people who need something reasonably priced and they just need a bed to sleep in. Compared to the two Marriott properties we've stayed at in London, this is a difference experience.

Trip Type: Family Review 10 of 35Great Location, not much else
The location was close to many of the great attractions. We often walked to Trafalgar Sqare and Covent Garden; also, Big Ben, London Eye, Regent Street and Oxford Street are all within walking distance. The big drawbacks were heavy construction on the floor below us (5th floor), no refrigerator (the only ice machine was on the 1st floor), and expensive slow internet (think of a super high number and then double it...no joke.

Good location. Small rooms. No air flow. Needs painting. Needs newer carpets. Slight mildew smell. Service ok.

Trip Type: Business Review 12 of 35Needs air conditioning !
The rooms are very small, no air conditioning, and the window is almost screwed shut except for about a four inch gap at the bottom. As a result the small room was exceedingly hot all night. Although I paid for two nights in advance, I left for another hotel after one night.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 14 of 35You're paying for the location
Location cannot be beat. Close to Covent Garden, great shopping, some key museums, good restaurants, and all the West End theatres. The hotel itself offers very small rooms and many, like ours, have small windows that face a huge interior shaft offering no light and no view. Everytime a toilet was flushed the floor above our bathroom groaned -all through the night. It's fine if you just want a great location, a clean room, and you plan to be out all the time.
