Trip Type: Business Review 1 of 66Don't stay here
The room was nice but the staff was not. The hotel was a long walk up hill from the closest metro station. Customer service did not seem to be a priority. The TV did not work the whole time we were there and the management did nothing to correct or compensate us for this inconvience.

Trip Type: Romance Review 2 of 66Bad Timing
The room was very cold. There was no way to turn the air off. The televsion did not work because they were working on the roof. There were lady bugs everywhere in the bathroom. However, The front desk bartender were very nice...

Trip Type: With Friends Review 3 of 66Experience Did Not Match Online Reviews
Room condition was not what I expected. The nonsmoking room I requested was obviously a former smoking room. The smell was immediately detectable and there was a large cigarette burn on the comforter, along with several stains. There were also two places on seperate walls where either the plaster was damaged and crumbling or the wallpaper was torn. My window was located on the ground level next to an alley lined with dumpsters and I was awakened at 4:00 a.m. and again at 6:30 a.m. by very loud garbage trucks dumping and then dropping the containers back into place. This was a Saturday morning. The staff was very friendly and a room service breakfast was fine. The overall experience was not what I expected, however, and I would think twice about staying here again as the rate, though reasonable, was definitely not worth the hassle of putting up with deteriorated room and linen conditions and disrupted sleep.

Trip Type: Special Event Review 5 of 66Pretty crummy
It was cheap and clean and in a decent location near Dupont Circle, but nothing like the photos. Hotel is old and a bit rundown with tiny bathroom. The bathroom on an airplane is bigger than what we had in a Junior Suite.

Trip Type: Not Provided Review 6 of 66King size bed?
When we booked this on Hotels.com we booked a king size room, but when we got to the hotel, they told us that there are no king size available, and that we will be forced to sleep in a two beds room, and that the next day they will move us to a different room. The next day when we called the receptionist knew nothing about our request and said that she can't move us to a different room. Only on our last day we were moved. over all we were very disappointed, and will never go back there.

Trip Type: Not Provided Review 7 of 66Great Hotel as long as you don't need ANY help with anything
This hotel was elegant and had all the in-room amenities you could want, including marble floored-bathroom, granite countertops, extremely comfortable king sized bed, fine linens, etc. The common areas were small, but tastefully decorated and spotless. I would only stay at this hotel in the future if I did not need any help from the staff. The front desk staff did not want to give common sense help about anything. I think they must treat or pay the front desk staff terribly because they were all unhappy. The bellmen and bartenders seemed happier, but over 3 days we saw probably 8 different front desk staff persons and all but one was unhelpful. We got more help from the local bookstore staff than we got at our own hotel. For example, want advice about how to get to the airport other than taxi? They look at you strangely when you ask and then say they can't help. Want to change a $100 bill into 20's? Can't help you. Want advice on how to call and book theater tickets at the Folger Shakespeare theater? Sorry, they don't know (they say). These things happened not just to me, but to other travelers, with different front desk staff. I sat in the lobby and listened for an hour while waiting for a friend and I was appalled at the basic questions they couldn't or wouldn't help guests with. Great price for the room itself and you'll be happy you stayed there as long as you don't need any service at all.

Trip Type: Business Review 8 of 66Not the hotel for business travelers
This hotel is not the place for business travelers to go. There is no place to work, no place to put a laptop and just plugging in a laptop can be difficult. The location (Dupont Circle) is great but there are so many other hotels around that are as good value for the money that provide a place to work, a fridge and are much more spacious.

Trip Type: Not Provided Review 9 of 66not for families
The hotel was a boutique hotel so it was not for families. Location was good by dupont circle. The first room offered was very small so we moved to a slightly larger one, however, it was by the elevator shaft so we moved the following day. The third room was finally a good size. The price was reasonable so I would recomend it for that reason.

Trip Type: Not Provided Review 10 of 66Horrible experience
apparently they have a late night menu for room service. Well they did not want to honor that service on my stay. It took me an hour of arguing with the front desk who was very rude to get the food i wanted on the "late night menu". I would never stay here again. The rooms and hotel itself is very nice. Customer service is horrible.

Trip Type: Romance Review 11 of 66EXPECTED MORE FROM A HISTORIC HOTEL
This hotel touts itself as an historic hotel with vast amenities and great comfort. We had no heat in out room the first night. We had to complain 3 times before someone from the front desk came to the room. They brought in a rinky dink space heater that didn't heat the room at all. When we asked to speak to a manager she was rude and didn't understand the concept of "the customer is always right". We asked for a smoking room but wasn't provided with any ashtrays and to top it all off, there was ROACHES in the room!!!! We will never stay at this hotel again

Trip Type: Not Provided Review 13 of 66Lovely hotel - with quite poor service
This is a lovely property with nice rooms. We chose it due to the proximity to Dupont Circle & the great rate advertised on Hotels.com. Unfortunately our stay was marred by very poor service. The valet & door staff were extremely welcoming - a standard we wished was matched by the front desk staff. Even allowing that it was New Year's Eve & that the hotel was very busy, the front desk staff were curt to the point of rudeness. To be fair though, they did follow up promptly about one issue we brought to their attention, namely the excessive overheating of both our rooms. In addition, after our visit we found that our credit cards were automatically debited $50 - without our consent - for miscellaneous charges. When I phoned the hotel I was told that this was routine practice & would be reversed in about 2 business days if we had not incurred any additional costs during our stay. An apology was given for not explaining this practice when I checked in. We spent the 2 weeks prior to arriving in Washington DC touring through Georgia & the Carolinas. What we consistently found was that 2 to 3 star hotels were much better value, and offered much better service, than 3.5 & 4 star hotels. Almost all 'budget' properties include a good-quality continental breakfast, parking & wireless internet free of charge once you have paid for the room. The higher priced hotels, including The Churchill Hotel, charge for everything they possibly can - usually at exorbitant rates. Kudos to the 'value' chains that have listened to their customers & are providing a consistently good level of service, let's hope the more expensive chains will be inspired to follow suit.
