Old hotel that doesnt seem to own a vacuum

Absolutely NO amenities. No microwave, no coffee, no information in the room about local attractions or hotel offerings. The hotel claims to provide free bikes, but, the bikes are only available for boardwalk use (and only until 10am) and they only have three bikes. We were here on a very very not busy day, and STILL were unable to get the bikes. The hallway to our room appears to have been vacuumed back in the 60s which matches the worn out decor. The bed was comfortable, and our view was nice, however, the complete lack of any amenities (such as ANY sort of "normal" hotel coffee, newspaper, etc) really is a big downer and makes the hotel seem chintzy. We opted out of staying at the similarly-priced, nearby Hilton or Marriott, but now wish we had not.

Not recomended

We decided to stay at the Chelsey rather than a casino hotel because it's billed as one of the few four star hotels in Atlantic City and seemed more a destination resort. We were there right after labor day and while I didn't expect the Town to be packed, the Chelsey was deserted. The restaurant, club, bar and spa were never open. If the coffee shop was open at all it was only early in the day. A complaint to the desk was no relief except for them to say the whole town was dead. In truth we found Tropicana and Trump to be moderately busy and almost couln't get a table at Cube Libre with no reservation. I saw so few other people at teh Chelsey I came to wonder how they pay their bills. It's on the Boardwalk, but at the end of the strip, so not very close to many casino hotels. All in al a disappointing stay not only because everything was closed, but the room was less than I expected for a four star property.

Key didn't work

Two nights in a row the key to my room didn't work when trying to enter my room. The key was never near a cell phone or anything that would have deactivated the mag stripe.

lovely hotel but felt unwanted there

first i would like to say that we usually stay at casino hotels. We took a chance with this one cause it looks so nice on your website. The pictures were on point. however we didnt realize that there was a charge on ur credit card for everyday u stay that was more than the room rate per day. Which I thought was a joke. Place was lovely but the people there made u feel like u dont belong. everything was close by 10pm which is crazy cause u are in atlantic city the night begins at 10pm. Everytime i tried to go to the spa when its should be open it was close n the gym. and the worst it was far away from the main casino and action. I would recommend if u plan to stay in the room cause it lovely and comfortable but if u want to go have a good time u need to go up to the middle of the casino. almost forgot when they found out where i was from there additude change for the worst.

Check in a nighmare/ Service needs improvement

There was a big concert in town when we checked in and the hotel was not prepared. We had to wait 45 minutes to check in after the 4:00 PM check in time. This was 45 minutes in line at the front desk. Later, we requested maintenance due to a propblem with our AC unit and no one ever came that night. Overall, not satisified with the service of the front desk and maintenance response.

Check In/ Check out Service POOR !

There was a big concert in town and the hotel was not prepared for the amount of people checking in and checking out on a Sunday afternoon. We waited in the lobby for almost 40 minutes to check in. We had trouble at night with our AC not working properly and the night clerk did not seem to care. We waited about 1/2 hour and final just went to sleep. The total experience of checking and and waiting to check out was bad.

Not a 4 star

Not worth the money. Service was quite poor. Air conditioning sounds like a rocket going off and room doors closing literally cause adjacent rooms to shake. Pool was very small for a building this size. Bathroom is nice, however.

Great Locaction, poor HOTEL staff

Hotel was redone in many areas but the Hallways and floors were OLD and the AC did not work in the HALLWAYS. Pool area had OLDER chairs, furniture. Room stated it had a Seperate Bath --- I assumed it was BATH TUB -- NO tub. Staff was short handed and front desk issues were many . THE Door keys did not work always and you had to get NEW Keys made to get back into your ROOM. Valet parking was good - is $5/ day a good Charge?

Rainy day...Where to go

It really rained the middle day of our vacation, and tired of gambling, we came back to the hotel for a game and to play pool. It was Thursday, and I guess they were having some kind of party in the bar area next door... We were asked three times to leave the room but never asked to our faces... Just loud comment about us Still.. being there! I thought public places were for all to use... and if not put up a notice on the door!

Disappointed

Have stayed here twice before in the tower rooms, but this time was in the annex. If you have never been to the Chelsea before, stay in the Annex first before staying in one of the rooms in the towers. There is a huge difference aesthetically, between these two types of rooms.

The tower rooms directly face the pool on the 5th floor, the Tropicana and the beach, while the Annex rooms face Pacific Avenue, but do have balconies. The bathrooms in the annex are not really so much "retro" (just marketing) as they are just outdated. (Think pink and gray school bathroom tiles and fixtures) The building that the Chelsea took over was initially the Holiday Inn and the bathrooms in the Annex appear to have not been updated since it was the original Holiday Inn hotel.

The actual location of the Chelsea is at the downtown end of the boardwalk, in between the Hilton and Tropicana and is within walking distance to all the boardwalk casinos.

My first two experiences here were much better but they were also during the off season. When we checked in, the girl at the front desk was towards the end of her shift and you could tell. It is common sense, but don't leave anything important such as money, important documents, jewelry, etc. during the day while you're not in your room.

Also, on the first day, a member of the housekeeping staff inadvertently unlocked our room, while we were in it, to let in two other guests, that she had thought booked that room. She did apologize but I thought it was strange how the housekeeping staff was showing guests to their rooms instead of the hotel porter or concierge or a front desk staff member.

average hotel

Very average, "cold" hotel. Far from attractions, don't think i'm gonna stay there again. Simply has no vibe.

Beware of loud music

It's a former Holiday Inn that's been slightly revamped. Beware of "The Annex". The main bedroom was well done, but the bathroom could have used a better refurbishing. Loud music on the weekends due to the pool deck "night club". Music played until 5am! The rooftop pool area is very nice as well as the service by the pool. However, loud music. Did I mention that already? Also loud music during the day near the other pool. They didn't turn it off until 7pm. Hard to take a daytime nap. When we asked to switch rooms, they wanted $50. I'm not staying here again...so much for "Luxury".

rooms are outdated

Needs a lot of upgrades, make sure you know which side of the hotel are u getting, the rooms in the tower looks ok and some is new but the rooms in the back next to the pool is outdated , in the hotel descriptions they said it was built in 2008 that’s P.S. actually it was built in 1961, also they promise me with room upgrades but when I checked in they didn’t honor it. Overall good location but pricey comparing to the surrounding casinos.

Chelsea Hotel in AC

I booked a room for one night after reviewing the hotels accomodations online, it was supposed to be beautifully decorated rooms with wet bars, flat screen tv, beautifully furnished, etc....The room I was assigned to first looked like an old Howard Johnson's room from the 70's!! ugly tiled bathroom, old furniture, an outdated analog tv, wine chiller did not chill, the room had a musty odor....horrible, so they appolgized and admitted that they were in the process of renovating that area. I was moved to another room on another floor which was somewhat better....I later found out that the tower that had the suites was the area advertised online and in brocures...not cool.

You gotta be kidding

The treatment I received at this hotel was not acceptable. The staff was rude. I will never stay here again. I waited over 45 minutes to get our car from the valet twice plus we were charged to park. There was no where else to park. With no apologies for the long wait time. The bathroom was not clean with hair stuck to the walls of the shower. I was very disappointed
