Quaint as long as you don't mind noise!

The Normandy has a quaint European feel and charm which was impressive to me from the start. The rooms are small but decorated nicely and equipt with flat screens and personal coffee makers, nice touches. I loved it until I tried to go to sleep. The building next door, over which the Normandy has no control, apparently likes to party. The courtyard of the Normandy only echos this noise up to your room, making it impossible to get any sleep. So, as long as you don't mind staying up all night, this hotel is great.

NIce but not really

We recently returned from a four night stay at the Normandy Hotel. The best thing s to claim are that it is clean and in a quiet neighborhood. There are a few issues that visitor' should be aware of including it is a good ten plus blocks from the metro, but they a very steep blocks especially when you have back problems. Second the rooms have no dresser's and the closets are small and taken up by a safe. We lived out of suitcases. Third the queen size bed was a really a full size. Fourth on the third day the only elevator was broke, so it was the staircase for several trips from the sixth floor, no apologies just a rude desk clerk.Fifth the $12 breakfast was fine but if you came after the first hour there were slim pickings and few tables without dirty dishes to sit.

Pretty good, w/ exceptions...

First I'll start with the pros: Quiet hotel in a quiet neighborhood, heard another guest from inside my room maybe once, never heard anything from the street and my room was on the 2nd floor facing the street. Many of the houses on the street appear to be for foreign diplomats, and embassy row is not too far away either. Great location, near dupont circle and transportation hubs, close enough to downtown to be convenient, but not too close to be a hassle and noisy. The lobby is nice, classy, warm and inviting, elegant but not over the top. Nice inside sitting area and an outside patio in a courtyard. The rooms appear to have been recently re-done (could smell the paint still...), but they were comfortable. Not the best bed I've slept in in a hotel, but pretty good. The staff was (usually) pleasant to deal with, problems were immediately addressed. On that note, the cons: parking - don't expect to park on the street, and don't expect to park in the hotel. I was told originally that all the spots were taken, not until my last day was it mentioned that you could "reserve" one of the 8 precious spots first thing every morning... yes, 8 parking spaces. The staff was a bit snotty when I dared to ask at noon if there was a spot. We parked instead at their sister mariott hotel, two blocks away, for $28/night (same price as the Normandy). Ridiculous, especially since they put it as an advertising point... a complementary valet to the other hotel would have been nice... or maybe at least a shuttle so you didn't have to walk 4 blocks everytime... Oh, and the mariott valet put a nice big scratch/gouge in the bumper of what used to be my pristine, untouched 2007 BMW... ask to park it yourself if you dont mind maneuvering in tight spaces. Breakfast, don't be fooled, no continental breakfast is worth the $10.95 they asked for it; dont bother. The room - our shower didn't drain the first day. Our toilet didn't work the second day. (both were fixed immediately however) And the sink

No parking on street. Must park underneath building for an outrageous fee per night. Basement parking so small that our small dodge avenger had to do 10 point turns to park and enter/exit. Room nice, but small. Not able to control thermostat - really hot in room. had to open windows, but then listened to noisy traffic and airplans all night. Room smelled like paint from recent renovations. Breakfast is a fruit buffet for $8. Stated there is complimentary coffee, but I had to go back to the kitchen to get it, and then were mean about it. Hot/cold with the staff. Close to metro, tho (about a 10 min walk from dupont circle).

staff unfriendly

The hotel was under construction which made it noisy and messy. The lights did not work in our first room and the staff was unpleasant and treated us as if we were in the wrong when we asked to switch to a room that had working bathroom lights.

I reserved a queen, but got two twins - no apologies or offers to move after a day or two, just hotel policy that you necessarily get what you reserved, even if it's been paid for through hotels.com.

Old hotel

The hotel is like a mom and pop business rather than a professionally run hotel. When it was warm outside (November), it was like an oven in the room. Lowering the thermostat had no effect, nor did closing the vents on the heater. We were told that air conditioning could not operate once the season changed and the system was affixed for use of the heating system. There was a sickening strong smell of fresh paint. The room was small, with almost no room to sit and relax, and certainly not to walk around. Finally, the hotel is difficult to locate from the street.

Stick to Major Chains

This hotel is more like a bed and breakfast without the amenities. Stay away from it unless you like discomfort. The room was small, there is no restaurant, the location is awful there is almost no parking and if you can get parking it is very expensive; the location is not convenient to transportation, you cannot even park your car to go to check in. The convenience bar in the room was empty and the air conditioning either froze your or it was like a sauna.

Great Hotel - Watch Location

I made reservations under the mistaken impression it was the Jurys Hotel on Dupont Circle. Be careful if that's your desired location. It's 2 miles uphill from there and cabs are $7 each way. On a hot summer day its a big mistake. Otherwise its a great hotel with wonderful Embassy area behind and Adams Morgan on other side.

Disappointment at Jury's Hotel

The hotel was very clean, but the employees at the front desk were not helpful when we asked for information. I am of the opinion that if someone is in the hotel business, they should be able to give directions, suggestions for dining and sightseeing, etc. Eye contact was not even made with my husband and I made inquiries. My husband and I were treated rudely and we will not lodge at Jury's in the future. There are too many other nice hotels in the area to choose from and when we return in August to D.C. we will stay elsewhere.
