Trip Type: Not Provided Review 1 of 58Needs Serious Improvement
I would first like to say that the highlight of our stay at Magnolia was the valet service. Those gentlemen were super professional and very good. It all went down from there. It took us a long time to get our bags, I saw them just sitting in the lobby, we checked in at a very late hour, no reason for the delay, we had to call twice to get them. A bulb was burned out in the bathroom light making it even more difficult to see in an already too dark room. The sheets were an ok thread count, however they didn't fit the mattress properly and half the mattress was showing. They also had holes in them. (The sheets). The hallway carpets were filthy, not sure about the carpet in the guest room, it was a dark color and I wore shoes the entire time. For the price of this hotel these things should not be issues. I think the management might need a review. Whoever manages the valet maybe should work on the hotel.

The hotel was very nice but, the employees were very rude including the managers. They need more valet workers and and a class on customer service.

Trip Type: Family Review 3 of 58"Very Disappointed"
I was disappointed with our stay at the Magnolia Hotel. We have a Magnolia Hotel in the Downtown Dallas area which is much classier with covered parking as you drive up, so we expected the same when we arrived in Houston. When we arrived, it was pouring rain and there was no covered parking and we got drenched! The valet guys were soaked, but they did offer umbrellas to take us out of our car, but it was flooding as we stepped out of the car! The valet guys kept the spare key to our car and when we called the hotel, they said they would FedEx it to us, but it took far too long. When we called to find out the status, they said they would call us back and never did. Overall, I expected more for the price we paid and we will probably never stay there again.

Trip Type: Romance Review 4 of 58beautiful hotel, but service is questionable
This hotel is in the beautifully restored old Post-Dispatch building in downtown. It is centrally located to everything downtown and midtown, shopping, museum district, etc. are only a tram ride away. Our room was nice, I expected a little more from the hotel, but it was nice. However, the service was horrible at best. There were two large wedding parties staying at the hotel, and it was obvious that the hotel cannot accommodate large groups at any given time. There are three elevators in the hotel. Each one can only hold 8 people max. With these large groups, and everyone trying to go to breakfast or happy hour, we waited 45 minutes or more for an elevator. When we were trying to checkout, we had to go down several flights of stairs with our luggage and several other people and their luggage because of the elevator issues. When we got down to the first floor landing, we found that the door to the first floor was locked and blocked and had to go back up to the 2nd floor and go out through bar. Between 5:30 and 6:30, guests can get up to 2 free beers or wine in the bar, which is a nice feature, if you can get the bar and find a seat. Bar is nice. It feels like a lounge bar that you would find in NYC or Vegas, but with the huge groups of people, you are fighting to find a seat. Same thing goes for the free continental breakfast. It is served in the same bar in the mornings. It is a nice breakfast that you do not have to pay for, but because of the large groups there, it was impossible to get on the elevators and impossible to find a seat to eat. The other issue was that our room was never serviced by housekeeping. When we came back in the afternoon, we noticed our room was not serviced. We called the front desk to have our room serviced, their response was that housekeeping had left for the day, but they would see what could be done. Well, nothing is what actually was done. Lastly, the parking there is horrible. Like most hotels in a downtown location, you have to

Trip Type: Romance Review 6 of 58Not dealing with the big issues
2 elevators were out and there were huge delays at the car valet. Staff was quite friendly, but it seemed like there was no coordination at the top to deal with the issue, such as enabling use of the service elevator. There were many such instances where it was clear there was no coordination to handle the number of guests they typically get.

Trip Type: Family Review 7 of 58Need a little more attention to details
The television is not accessible to the siting area The towels and robe are very stiff and not soft. The lighting the restrooms are not bright enough for a woman to apply make up. There are not any towel bars, exept in the shower/tub area. For the money spent, you would think attention to the small things would be as important to the big items.

Trip Type: Special Event Review 9 of 58Decent but not great
Overall, it's a nice hotel. The lobby area is very elegant, and well maintained. It has great access to down town Houston, but can be cumbersome if you need to get out of down town. The immediate area is nice, but as with any metropolitan area, a couple blocks walk in the wrong direction can get sketchy quickly. The only option is valet parking, which can add up quickly if you come and go often. There is also a nightly parking fee that we were not told about until we arrived. The room it's self was nice although a little small, and with no convenient place to put a suitcase. The most disappointing thing was the pool. It is about 10 feet wide, and about 30 feet long, and three feet deep all the way across, which is nice if you have small children, but is not big enough to actually swim. The pool area is on the roof, so it has a nice view, but is not very well maintained (there were used towels and empty beer cans and bottles at almost every chair on the deck) and under a day's sunlight the pool heats up very quickly and offers little relief from the heat. So if you are in town for business downtown, or for an event down town, this is a great place to stay. If you are planning on being in other parts of Houston or are planning to use the pool, I would recommend going somewhere else.

Trip Type: Special Event Review 10 of 58Disappointed
We were disappointed to find out that they were going to take out of our debit card a little over $150.00 per room for the deposit. We were told it would be put back on our acount in 5-6 days after we checked out. I wish we would have been warned about this before we bought the rooms through hotel.com.

Trip Type: Romance Review 13 of 58Nice hotel, but not worth the aftermath of the stay...
The hotel and staff were wonderful - beautiful room, great food, good service. The valet guys were very quick, but where they are parking the cars is in a PUBLIC parking garage not associated with the hotel -- which I was not informed of until they brought my car back to me, and over half of it had been keyed! This also happened to 5 other cars that night. After dealing with their insurance people for a week, I've basically been told that they will not take responsibility for it, and I am having to put it on MY insurance. Also, they wouldn't even refund us the cost of the valet service after all of this happened. SO! Nope, I won't be back. Not worth the hassle of getting my car fixed, and my insurance rate going through the roof.

Trip Type: Romance Review 14 of 58Too expensive for the quality
Valet was horriable especially for the rate. They drove our turbo horriable. Lost are car and the room service was not very good. I would say a beautiful hotel but for the prices we thought we would have better quality.

Trip Type: Rest and Recreation Review 15 of 58Good hotel, but lacking in service
I think the actual hotel is great (great location, room was wonderful, amenities -including free breakfast, cookies, and drinks every day- the fitness center was one of the best I've seen in a hotel in downtown. My only complaint about the actual hotel is the size of the pool area (about the size of my room)- but what can you really expect from a roof-top pool downtown? My main complaints are about the service I received- housekeeping didn't come one of the days and when I called down to the front desk that evening I was told that I needed to schedule a time for them to come if the "Do Not Disturb" sign was on my door when they came by, my toilet didn't work one morning (though that was cleared up by the time I got back from an extended breakfast), and when I asked to have my bags picked up and put into my car... I returned to my car later that day and (good thing I checked!) they were still in the closet (then it seemed to me as if they were blaming me for the mistake, though I had explicitly asked if there was a tag, number, etc. that I needed to get from them to make this happen- the answer had been no, but later was turned to yes). Also, you can not ignore how aggressively all the staff goes after tips- a huge turn off. Overall, it was a frustrating weekend that was supposed to be a relaxing break.
