Trip Type: Romance Review 1 of 8If you expect to visit Ft. Lauderdale Beach- this hotel is NOT where you should stay!
The staff is rather rude/creative with the tales that they guests (rather excuses why they can't or won't do something). There is NO reliable Direct TV; you are NOT near Ft. Lauderdale Beach proper- you can walk for like 3 miles to get there! They offer a free shuttle at THEIR convenience. The room is not vacuumed daily; the room service- if you like to eat raw meat- then this is YOUR dream place! Food quality of their new restaurant "Da Campo"= unfortunate. They rate themselves comparable with the Ritz- yet that is laughable. Would never stay there again!

Trip Type: Special Event Review 2 of 8Nice looking but short on hospitality.
The hotel is very nice looking. The rooms are spectacular and the location is great. What I did not like was the lack of response from the concierge service. As a hotel that sells itself very much on it's hospitality I don't think you should have to call 3 times to get a hold of the concierge. Furthermore, I wanted a late checkout and was told that the best they could do was charge me 1/2 a day and I would still have to be out at 5:00 in the afternoon because housekeeping leaves at that time. This was insulting to say the least.

Trip Type: Romance Review 3 of 8For the price I would expect better
Valet parking is mandatory, the problem with that is for the added fee the valet was no where to be found. After checking in we still had to wait for the valet to take the car. Our room was suppose to be ocean view and that was a joke. The ocean was about a mile away and we got a great view of the parking lot. On checkout day the housekeeper actually came up to the room at 9am and asked what time me and my wife were leaving. Nothing like feeling rushed!! Definitely a do not return hotel.

Trip Type: Romance Review 4 of 8Pricey for the stay
When we arrived at the hotel, the valet parking is mandatory, the problem was there was no valet to be found. Wound up checking in first and waiting until valet showed up. We had the ocean view which was ridiculous as the ocean was a good mile away and the view of the parking lot was what we saw. During checkout day the housekeeper actually came to the room at 9am and asked what time are we leaving.

Trip Type: Family Review 5 of 8"Don't Go"
$25.00 per night parking. No milk or ice cream for my 3 year old in the entire hotel. Sun only shines near the pool at 4pm and when it does just one seat is sunny, Room service menu extremely limited. Never replaced my coffee or creamer for 2 weeks. I had to track down the housekeeper. Beach access is 1/4 mile away thru two buildings. Not child friendly at all. Always tipping valets to get your car.

Trip Type: Not Provided Review 6 of 8Pool gets no sun
Whoever designed the swimming pool/deck did the Il Lugano a great disservice. The pool and deck get virtually no direct sunshine at anytime of the day. Although the pool itself is well heated (and there is a great hot tub nearby), without direct sunshine you do get chilled - at least this time of the year when the air temperature averages 75-80 degrees. Not to mention that there is no place to relax in the sun - using sunscreen, of course! In my opinion, this is all very unfortunate because the hotel itself is lovely. The rooms are large with a private balcony (which does get sunshine), a small kitchen and washer/dryer. The staff is very professional, friendly and helpful. (Although I do think that charging $25 a day for valet parking is a little steep). There is currently no restaurant, but I understand that they are planning to open one in the Spring. However, in spite of these amenities, I cannot recommend the Il Lugano. I, like many others, come to Florida for the sunshine (especially during the winter) A sunny pool and deck is essential.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 7 of 8Not Ready for the Public Yet
The hotel was beautiful, however the hotel is not ready for guests yet. We were guaranteed two double beds, they only had a king with a pull out couch. Which I had to make up myself. The second day we were there we came back at 4:00, the room hadn't been cleaned yet. So I did it myself, when the maid finally arrived I had her leave clean towels and take the trash. At 10:00 that evening a maid came to the door, for turn down service. The third day the elevator wasn't working, and instead of telling me where another was they said they would send an engineer, luckily another employee showed me where the service elevator was. There is no room service, breakfast is only between 7:30 and 9:30. Don't ask for anything after that. The last morning I called three times for bell service. We waited a half hour. No one ever came. One time they said it would be a few minutes. The next time they said they were very busy, and lastly they told me to call the front desk. We ended up taking the luggage ourselves. We spoke with the manager who told us that he was there to correct any problems. The gift shop was not set up. The bar just opened. I knew the restaurant wasn't open yet. But other than the rooms I definitely don't think they are ready. This may end up being a nice hotel experience, but not now.

Trip Type: Not Provided Review 8 of 8Where's the sun
This hotel is beautifully styled; Schrager meets Ikea. The only trouble is the location and the buildings orientation; Situated on the intercostals waterway at the back of a desolate strip mall. You'll wish the building were relocates 3-miles south. One redeeming fact is they have a mini fleet of Cadillac's to ferry you to beaches etc. Be careful though, a taxi fare will be charged after the first mile. I'm not sure why the pool and a significant amount of the rooms with balconies face north. My only reckoning was the building was designed for the southern hemisphere. Stay here if you're on business. If you want the sun give it a miss.
