Trip Type: Romance Review 2 of 52Awful experience
I have been to San Francisco many times and always had a great stay at the Hotel Adagio. I decided to try something new, which was a big mitake. The Westin provided horrible service with very small rooms. We waited in a long line wrapping through the lobby to check in and were then given a room with broken air conditioning. After being relocated to a much smaller room we continued to be dissapointed. The hotel is very large and very busy. It is very loud all hours of the day.

Trip Type: Special Event Review 3 of 52Beautiful hotel but needs improvement
This hotel is beautiful, however, it does not include amenities that come standard in other hotels. We stayed in the original tower and the room was very small and needed updating. The room had a musty odor and the bathtub would clog about a minute after turning the shower on. Hotel staff was very professional and helpful. Parking was expensive but comparable to other hotels in this area. The fitness room was only available at a fee that compares to my monthly fee for my fitness club back home, so we opted to workout outdoors. Location was the factor that drew us to this hotel, it has an amazing location but I would probably not stay here again. Not worth the price.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 4 of 52Just okay!
Great location! Was not that impressed with the hotel. They give you exactly 2 towels in your room for 2. Called to get more, but even La Quinta gives you plenty of towels. Under construction so the lobby bar is not open until 4 pm. Not that impressed with the attitude of concierge desk...they act like they are doing you a favor, instead of a service. We had a delivery that we had to call down for instead of them delivering it to our room so if we hadn't called we would not have received. Overall, it was just okay, but I guess I expected more from a Westin property.

Trip Type: Romance Review 5 of 52Very Disapointed
Hotel lacks good service. Long lines at check-in and a very small bar that was impossible to get in and have a drink. There was a wedding party at the hotel when we were there so there was a long wait for elevators

Trip Type: With Friends Review 6 of 52Little dissappointing
The hotel is very historic, has a beautiful lobby however the room was in desperate need of renovation. Very basic looking room. Staff never left enough towels in the bath room. Front desk staff was inconsistent in the level of customer service. The location however was outstanding being situated right at Union Square near the shopping district. I did enjoy hearing about the history of this famous hotel.

Trip Type: Rest and Recreation Review 7 of 52Is this 4-Star?
The first room they gave me was completely unacceptable. SMALL - could barely turn around in the bathroom, carpet dirty and worn. I went to the reception and requested a more acceptable room, and they said I would have to pay more money to get a DECENT room. They were extremely rude. The next day I was locked out of my room - the cleaning lady called and they said they would be up with a new key. I WAITED over 15 minutes for someone to show up. The sound from the street at 1:00AM and 3:00AM was deafening because of the garbage pickup both nights, so I did not get adequate sleep. The main areas of the hotel are beautiful and classic. The door man was gracious and helpful. No one informed me that I needed a key to the business center. No one informed me there was a complimentary computer to print a boarding pass. The bar was nice and bartenders accommodating. I grew up in the City and was quite distressed about their attitude.

Trip Type: Rest and Recreation Review 8 of 52Westin St. Francis
This hotel was overpriced for the room and service that you receive. Our TV did not work the first night we arrived so we called the front desk. 30 min later they sent someone up who gave us a new remote control. This still did not fix the problem. They then called an "engineer" who took another 30+ minutes to arrive and was extremely rude. This was all happening when we were trying to wind down and get some rest, 1 hour later our frustration was growing and at no point had they offered to move us to another room. In addition, they charge a hefty fee to use the fitness center which seems outrageous considering the rate you pay for the room and parking fee. I would recommend another hotel in this area.

Trip Type: Family Review 9 of 52This Hotel was Okay...
So... The Service was good, but not where I would say it exceeded my expectations. I expect good service when you are rated a 4 Star and 4 Diamond hotel. With that being said, the room really didn't meet my expectations. The room was a pretty average room. The bathroom wasn't much better than a truck stop bathroom. The faucet leaked, the toilet really did look like a truck stop, and the floors still looked dirty. Also, when they say there are mini-refridgerators in each room, this is true, but don't be fooled... you can't use them for your own stuff. When you take anything out of them, it charges your room for that item within 10 seconds of it being removed. I didn't even know they had those kind of capabilities. After a few calls, we finally... got the inaccurate charges removed from our bill and... then they rolled up a mini-refridgerator that we could actually use. The location (Union Square) was GREAT!!! However, there are many hotels in this location, so you do have options. The room service food was good. The conceirge was okay... but didn't really provide me with any information I couldn't get from the brochure stands all over the place. The view was great, we were on the 28th floor and the elevator was always fun. The bed was the best part of the whole room. Super comfortable, but again... expected a little nicer duvet cover based on its ratings. Next time, I would try a different hotel instead of going to this one again.

Trip Type: Family Review 11 of 52Sorry I stayed here
The hotel is beautiful in lobby but the rooms are just OK. Our particular room the air conditioner did not work and the window did not close. They sent someone to fix it and we went out and came home late at night it was not fixed. Stuck in that room for 2 nights. They moved us to a differnet room that was obviously a down grade and the bath tub did not drain. Taking a shower was really gross because there were 3 of us using it. I wanted to be moved again but they were full. Stuck in that room 1 night. Really a disappointment. Both romms were dirty. Stains on the carpet and furniture. To top it off when we left they tried to charge us for mini bar on two separate days.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 12 of 52Not All That
I couldn't wait for my weekend away, knowing I was staying at the Westin. Unfortunately, I was sadly disappointed. The bathroom was old and not well maintained. The bathroom door was all scratched at the bottom and there was hair in the shower. I know the building is old, but it should be better maintained. I won't stay there again, unless the price dropped.

Trip Type: Special Event Review 13 of 52the dirty bathtub
After participating in a 39.3 mile breast cancer walk, I was hoping to soak in the jacuzzi. The Westin St. Francis does NOT have a jacuzzi so my only option was to soak in the bathtub. The tub was DIRTY. You couldn't actually see the tub ring but there was a film of dirt all around that I could feel. I tried to scrub it off (NOT what I wanted to do when I was exhausted) but couldn't without cleaning solution. I had to settle for a shower instead. To top it off, we called housekeeping for 2 more bath towels (we only had 2 in our room). It took 3 calls and almost 25 minutes before they brought up our towels. The hotel was beautiful and in a good location but will most likely stay at another hotel the next time I visit San Francisco.

Trip Type: Special Event Review 14 of 52Terrible Hotel considering it's a 4 star
We were very dissatisfied with the quality of the hotel service and offerings considering it was a 4 star hotel. Some of the things we felt were substandard were - 1 cup of coffee available to brew in room - $4.00 to brew a second cup. As we had 2 people in the room only 1 of us could have morning coffee. Missed wake up calls. Shower would not turn off, faucet was in need of repair. While the hotel itself was beautiful and very historic, the service and prices charged were outlandish and in our opinion the hotel certainly did not rate 4 stars. I have received much better service and ammenities at much less expensive hotels. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone and plan on writing a letter directly to the hotel expressing my dissatisfaction with our stay there.

Trip Type: Business Review 15 of 52perfect location - everything else is at extra cost
We came to SF to attend a meeting. The location of the hotel is fabulous in the middle of downtown. Almost everything is within a walking distance (i.e. Union Square). It is a bit noisy - as expected. The room was great with giant TV, minbar and very nice bathroom. However, Internet was at extra charge, which was ridiculously expensive! We moved some items in the minibar to check things out, but didn't remove anything. Even though we stayed there for a couple of nights and there were million options to check what was used, the items appeared at the hotel bill. We arrived by car. There ia a drop off location around the corner, but staying there for more than just dropping the backs and run is at extra charge. You can't take care of your luggage yourself and again - extra charge, which became annoying. If you don't mind to pay extra for everything (considering the price of the hotel already) - go there!
