Trip Type: Overnight Stay Review 1 of 67Convenient to Fremont St, but . . .
Old hotel, VERY smokey casino, clean but VERY tiny room, NOISY until late at night. Convenient parking and convenient to Fremont Street Experience. Price a bit high considering the above.

Trip Type: Business Review 2 of 67Felt unsafe inside the hotel
Very unconfortable bed, noisy, could hear everything from surroundings. People staying and the energy was not harmonious. Felt unsafe, not recommended for families. Next door, big fight broke up, had to call reception. They came right away and it dissipated.

Trip Type: Business Review 3 of 67Worst hotel front desk service in the freemont district
Since the change of ownership, the hotel has seen a huge decrease in hotel service from the front desk area to service in their dining establish- ments. This hotel just does not focuss on hospitality.I made an attempt to see the hotel manager on an issue which I received no attention what so ever. This hotel has gone down-hill in a rapid speed. It's now a budget hotel in my view. Should you dicide to dine in one of their dining establishment be prepared to wait-service is severely slow.....

I didn't appreciate the depressing surroundings of homeless individuals walking up and down the street. Bathtub not very clean!

Trip Type: Not Provided Review 6 of 67A stinking Hotel
The El Cortez is a very run-down casino/hotel in a very run-down area of Las Vegas. When we stepped into the elevator to get to the hotel the elevator was just as worn and run-down as the exterior of the casino and stunk badly of cigarette smoke. It smelled so bad we stepped right back out and drove away from our prepaid room.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 7 of 67Good room but bad neighborhood
The El Cortez is a nice hotel, it is just not in a good neighborhood. We had young girls (who are 21) with us and I didn't feel it was safe for them to be in the downtown area at night. There are alot of weirdos and strange people there. I ended up moving them to a different hotel on the strip. That way, at least I knew they could make it back to their hotel at night safely.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 8 of 67Not so good
The hotel was not good, it is far from the strip. For the promotional price, it is OK.

Trip Type: Business Review 11 of 67No hot water
Hot water switched from hot to cold, then cold to hot, then hot to slightly cold then warm, in a matter of seconds throughout my shower.

Trip Type: Special Event Review 13 of 67Watch out for the rooms over the parking garage
You get what you pay for. Outside doors are on the rooms over the parking garage on 5th floor. The neighbor across the hall had his door open all night which was strange. Luckily the hot water did not work in the shower so the second day we received a free upgrade for the remainder of our stay to a room with a king bed and a sectional couch, two closets and an overflow room. The upgraded rooms had inside doors, but there was no elevator to get to them and we were on the 3rd floor. Call ahead to to check the details of the room before you pay and end up over in "the hood" is how I described the rooms above the parking garage. I must admit, after we upgraded, my family felt safer and we had no problems otherwise. Hope this helps

Trip Type: Business Review 14 of 673 stars for comfort, zero stars for service
The staff at the front desk were less than professional. Instead of serving the guests (my) needs, they opted to debate who was getting off first. The manager was also rude in answering my questions. Maybe if they were more focused on the guests, I wouldnt have waited 40 minutes in line while there were only 2 people ahead of me... both who were getting comped rooms and that only begged the question of what a paying customer is worth to the Cortez? The room was very basic, and I am glad I didnt have the urge to take a bath as the drain plug was laying like a dead duck tied to the pipe and I had no way to move it. There was no ironing board or iron to press my clothes. There were no chairs to sit in, only the beds. The best thing about the room were the beds... very comfortable and surprisingly spotless. If you want a cheap room, close to the action of downtown, then the Cortez is for you... but mind your step because a wrong turn will land you on skid row and you will be hounded by endless beggars with a myriad of hard luck stories.
