Trip Type: Family Review 1 of 17Free rental bikes!
Nice hotel within walking distance from the Karasuma-Oike metro station. The hotel provides free bikes to hotel guests for sightseeing purposes, which is one of the best ways to explore the city. The hotel also provides a very good priced breakfast, 10,000 yen for a hot breakfast, and 6,500 yen for bread and drinks only!

the hotel is in at a great local about a minute walk to a subway stop Karazuma Oiki and it is a straight ride to the main kyoto station. I like the free bike. the hotel is fantastic. very quiet room. very clean. i got a twin room and it is more than enough. breakfast fantastic. kyoto is a great place to visit.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 4 of 17Hearton Hotel Kyoto
The rooms are small, but they are very clean and have internet hook up. They have Western toilet in the bathroom. They have at least two dinning areas and serve a buffet breakfast with both Japanese and American choices. The 7-11 that has an international ATM is only 1 walking block away. The shopping area is 7 blocks away and across from the Kyoto city hall. The temple is just outside of the shopping area. We felt totally safe in this hotel & city. They had taxis available at all times and spoke English at the front desk. They provided English map of the area too. The water and food are amazing. None of our party was sick in Japan & trust me we ate and drank everything. We would go back to this hotel and city. Its strategicly located between Tokyo and Hieroshima. With use of Japan Rail Pass you can easily move between the two areas and enjoy a wonderful international experience.

Trip Type: Not Provided Review 5 of 17Good bargain, some nice extras
This hotel won out in my initial search mostly by being less than half the price of any other viable option. The structure and rooms are clean but unremarkable. However, overall I was pleasantly surprised. The staff was very helpful. It's a very central location, right by a subway stop. The hotel provides free internet access and free bike rentals (if you ask them a day or so in advance -- very handy for sightseeing). Not a ritzy hotel by any stretch, but affordable and a good base of operations while in Kyoto.

Trip Type: Not Provided Review 6 of 17Great hotel, great value
Great hotel esp given the low price. Easy location next to a main subway station Free bike rentals go fast-- I couldn't get one for either of my days there, but there is a cheap bike rental by the hotel that they'll point you to

Trip Type: Family Review 7 of 17Great room for the money
This was a great hotel. The front desk staff speak very good English and are very prepared when it comes to common questions a tourist might ask. The hotel itself is very close to some good shopping areas and historical sites, but if you are looking for a place right next to Kyoto station this isn't it. However, it is close to a subway and smaller train station which both connect to the large main Kyoto station. I was a little surprised at the size of the room, small, even for Japan standards, but it worked quite nicely for two people and they do have larger rooms as well. I would definetly stay here again.

Trip Type: Not Provided Review 8 of 17Good deal
This hotel is setup more for business travel. But excellent service and cleanliness. Rooms are quite small, but comfy. Location is right next to a subway station (and not a JR line by the way). It's walkable to Nijo castle and the downtown area, but there are subway stations closer to the downtown area. If you care about location, I would recommend one near Kyoto station or near the Gion area.

Trip Type: Family Review 11 of 17Good price, can't complain too much.
As other reviews has mentioned...the first thing you will notice when you enter is the size of the room. I stayed in a "double", which was a room basically just large enough to fit a Full size bed and a desk, approximately 8'x9'. This is your advanced warning that your room will be small! Also on the remote control, if you push the Channel +/- buttons, you will be exposed to a preview of Porn. To view regular channels you actually need to hit the number button to select the channel instead. So hit the 1,2,3,4, etc button, not Channel +/-. Other than those 2 things the hotel is fine. A plus the hotel offers is free use of computer and internet! There are 3 computers for public use. However, since there are only 3 there is often a line to access them during the day. The hotel is located right around the block from the subway station, which is 3 stops away from the main Kyoto Station. There is also a JR station somewhat "nearby" for those that have JR passes, but it's around a 30 minute walk. I would suggest just taking the subway or bus. Hotel lobby is decent, and only one person at the front desk spoke English.. but for the price, I really can't complain. I would stay here again. And its walking distance to Nijo Castle and Imperial Palace (about 10 min).

A long walk from train station carrying travel bags - take the subway. Otherwise great location, walking distance convenient to all Kyoto. Nice hotel with a great western/Japan breakfast.

Trip Type: Family Review 14 of 17Great overall hotel
Location is excellent. 100 meters from Katsumara-Oike stop on subway, which is only 2 stops away from the Kyoto Train station. Also the hotel is close to a food plaza that has all kinds of restuarants. In house breakfast is only 2000 yen a piece and has a nice selection. Staff is very hospitable and they have computers with free internet for your use. The only downside is that the pillows on the beds were hard, but other than that I only have good things to say about this hotel. I will definately stay there again.
