I found the location to be fantastic, but the hotel itself was less than desirable :(

Trip Type: With Friends Review 3 of 143Parking is a joke
I think you should specify on your website that you have to pay 50 dollars for parking. The same amount that a non hotel guest has to pay. I think that is ridiculous and that the hotel guest should at the very least get a discount. Plus the valet guy was rude.

Trip Type: Business Review 4 of 143Outdated, uncomfortable, overpriced.
I was excited at the 50% off rate I received from hotels.com, but upon entering my room my heart dropped. The wallpaper was ugly, the ceiling had sloppy patchwork done with poorly matching paint, the wallpaper in the bathroom was even worse. The phones are ugly, yellowish with age, and clearly not from the past decade, they buzz and crackle and are generally useless. The TV is large, but many of the channels come in fuzzy or not at all. The bed is a whole different story; I don't think I've ever slept in a less comfortable bed. It is so beyond firm that it literally feels like sleeping on a floor. They also have a lot of nerve charging $12 per day for the internet as it is painfully slow and disconnects often, as well as $45 per night for valet parking when they take 20 minutes to get your car. There were some positives. Being in a club room you do get access to a free breakfast in the club lounge. The breakfast was not spectacular but it was fresh and tasty. The restaurant on the second floor has a very good tenderloin, and the prices aren't terribly high. The staff is nice, the lobby is nice, and the location is great if you're here to shop. Other than that there isn't much else good to say about the place. I would not recommend it for a stay of more than a night, and only if you get a really good rate.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 6 of 143Nice, but.......
When we checked in, which was past the allowed check in time, our room wasn't ready. They said it would take about an hour to have it ready. We needed to change, so that we could get started with our day (we were only in town for one night). So they offered us a room with 2 double beds that was ready (we had requested a king size bed). Due to time, we took the double bed. The room was nice and the view was great. However, when it was time to sleep, the pillow choices were terrible. The 2 pillows they had were one, that was like sleeping on a cement curb and the other, which I switched to during the night, was way too soft and flat. Bottom line, this pretty expensive room was only worth the price for the location and cleanliness, other than that, it was not very good.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 8 of 143Mediocrity
Just found the place to be dull, uninviting, cool; no warmth or character, institutional smell throughout; just a very so-so place. Didn't know I'd be charged $50 to park the car. That came as an unwelcomed surprise (I've parked at hotels in NY at no charge!)

Trip Type: Romance Review 9 of 143Needs improvement
Hotel lobby was very fancy and the interior designs were renovated to modern trends. But all other areas such as bathrooms, corridors needed some improvement. And the damp smell in the corridors weren't very pleasing. The hotel ceilings are quite low, as can be expected from an old building. Location of the hotel is perfect since it's right next to the Powell BART station and close to Union Square. Expecially in San Francisco where you don't want to be driving around.

Trip Type: Family Review 10 of 143Uncomfortable
Rooms have been remodeled, beds are terrible, very uncomfortable, feels like box springs with a pad on it. Amenities were sparce...low quality. Hotel was much nicer before remodel, this hotel is no longer a Marriott Hotel, maybe new owners? The only great thing about hotel is location right in middle of Union Square.

Trip Type: Romance Review 11 of 143Bad customer service
We arrived at 3:20, 20 minutes after our check in time and were told our room would not be ready until 4, a full hour after our designated time, at four we tried to check but were told our room would "not be ready for a while" they then offered me a king smoking, or a double bed, we ordered a king nonsmoking. After I declined both options we were given " another room" that did not resemble size of pictures on website, over all it was not exactly satisfactory.

Trip Type: Romance Review 12 of 143Over Rated
The location was great, except the traffic and construction noise woke us every morning. The view from our small room was directly into windows of the next hotel. The housekeeping service was wonderful! The customer service staff was terrible, very rude. We booked our room months before our stay, yet our room was not ready until 5:10.

Trip Type: Romance Review 13 of 143Not very great
I don't know how great or bad this hotel is because when I checked in, the room wasn't going to be ready until 6 pm when check-in time was at 3 pm, so I opted to go to their sister hotel, the Westin, instead of waiting. I probably should have complained but having been in customer service myself, I figured it wasn't the front desk receptionist's fault.

Trip Type: Special Event Review 14 of 143Expensive
The room was ok, but I felt it was expensive for the size and service. Not to metion that they had over booked the hotel that weekend and we had to wait for almost a hour to get our room or drive to a different hotel.

Trip Type: Business Review 15 of 143Not renovated
At the time of reservation, I paid extra to have my room upgraded to a "newly renovated" room, since I am allergic to dust and mold. The room, with brownish carpet, pale yellow and scratched vanity, dark furniture and mold in the bathroom, dated from the seventies and had clearly not been renovated in recent memory. It was dirty and smelled like smoke. When I asked Guest Services if a mistake had been made, I was informed that "all rooms are renovated" they just couldn´t say when. Well, mine was from the seventies.
