Affinia 50 Hotel

To be fair, my dissatisfaction with stay may have been specific to my room and I was too exhausted and rushed to ask for a room change, so the hotel staff had no chance to remedy the situation. That said, my room had a foot tall "slit" of window feet above eye-level which looked out on a brick wall. Even in the middle of the day, there was virtually no natural light in the room. Also, there was a problem with the heat-the room was never below around seventy eight degrees. It seems this was an old problem, as a noisy and inneffective box fan was conspicuously displayed. Everything else was lovely and the staff very kind, but nothing could make up for feeling like I was trapped in a hot, windowless dungeon.

Small Rooms

I understand NY can be an expensive vacation, but I always look for value and comfort. The room had no windows and a fan to cool the room and it was small. We were given a jr suite at no charge, but what I was charged for the regular room should have put me in a jr suite from the start. I was very disappointed with the photos of the room and getting a room that didn't compare to the experience in the review. It would be nice to see photos of the rooms available at the price being offered.

Not Up to Our Expectations

Highlights: Greatest bellman ever!! Upgraded to suite due to unavailability of booked room. (We were second family at check-in counter that happened to). Low-lights: Bathtub would not drain, up to ankles in water by end of shower. Kitchen was from 1940 and was afraid to use it!

One problem

The room was acceptable--clean and nice; the street was decently quite. Good family spot. Staff was freindly. Problem was the hot water boiler kept going off. Of the 4 days there, we had two where we could not take a hot shower or bath. NYC water is pretty cold in late November. They seemed to be trying to fix it, but . . . I requested somekind of reduction in the price to account for the lack of hot water and instead got a $10 complimentary bottle of wine and a note of apology. Hardly satisfying.

Needs Updating and Upkeep

After viewing the pictures and reading good reviews, I gave Affinia 50 a shot. The rooms, though clean, were in need of repair and renovations. The hotel has a bad ventilation and HVAC system, as a result it had a funny smell and the room was way too hot even for November because the only option was to have the heat on. I would not recommend it, especially for the premium price

Trouble with A/C

We were there on a beautiful fall weekend, unseasonably warm. The hotel could not get the A/C to work consistently. We BROILED every evening and froze every morning.
