Good Hotel, Bad Experience

We booked a room with Continental Surf because it was cheap and right in the middle of town. Great location & all we needed was a place to sleep and shower. The room was tiny, as expected, but had a microwave, mini fridge/freezer, AC, iron/board & blow dryer. The rooms were somewhat clean, but there was some sort of writing on the picture with wax.. creepy. One night we came back from going out in the early AM and our door was slightly open. We definitely closed the door when we left and locked automatically. We were glad that was on our last night there.

What I expected

For the price I paid for the room, it was pretty much what I expected. However, the elevators are super slow and they need to have ice machines located on other floors and not JUST the 6th floor.

hotel was pretty dirty. We stayed there for a week, and they did not change the lines. for all whole week.

I didn't expect much...

And that was a GOOD thing -- considering what was there... The hotel is run down -- the walls and ceiling could have used a REAL paint job vs. the 1 see through coat -- the bed was worn out 10 years ago -- but all and all, I was happy with my stay... My brother in law stayed at the Marriot for MUCH MORE and his room was about the same... In talking with people there, I realized that a lot of the hotels are run down and old -- so... That is not why I went to Hawaii -- and I had an AWESOME vacation there regardless of the room... Its location is PERFECT -- and the staff was very friendly... No real complaints -- thanks to the other reviews I had read prior to booking...

You get what you pay for.

Nice, but overworked staff. Charged 18.00 a day to park car in the hotel's garage. Very Very small rooms. Only two elevators for the whole hotel and they can sometimes take awhile to reach the upper floors. I wouldn't stay there again unless there were no other options in Waikiki.

Okay for the cost

I would rate this hotel just barely okay. I'd stay there again if I needed an inexpensive place in Waikiki again, but would not tarnish my reputation by recommending it to friends. The location is good and the front desk staff did a fine job but the physical condition of this property leavea a lot to be desired. It leaves the impression of deferred maintenance and cost cutting measures by tight-wad owners. BTW,the wireless computer access only works in certain rooms so if this is important to you, be sure to mention it when you check in. We had to change rooms to access email.

There was no hot water; the beds were sub-standard; the A/C didn't work and I will never stay there again!

OK for short stay and cost conscious ones

The hotel was in a very convenient location. No doubt about it. However, because of the location, it was also very noisy and the hotel had minimal sound prooved walls to either the outside or adjacent rooms. It was OK if you stayed for a few nights. After a few nights, you either get used to it or it gets to you. I heard the bus throughout the night. The cost was definitely unbeatable for Waikiki. I traveled solo to Oahu and the small room worked out for me. However, it's definitely not for families. The hotel elevator was very slow. If you have places to be, be sure to leave plenty of time to get downstairs by elevator as the stairs are not accessible.

Stay Away from here

The outside is really nice. The hotel almost looks swanky form the exterior. But don't let that fool you. Parking is A JOKE!!! $18 a night to park! Not mentioned online either which is completely not cool. As you exit the lobby anyone can tell how rundown the Aqua Continental really is :( The elevators are worn down with buttons which are faded. The hallways are narrow as well beccause the floors are so tiny. The room was soooo small. It was pretty much a bed and a tv stand. I really like that we had a mini fridge to keep our water and snacks fresh and cold. The bar sink had no hot water runnning. The room came equipped with a mini coffee makeer and microwave which was a nice amenitie. The restroom was tiny and the water was chaotic. IT was either dull cold water or intense running boiling water. It took a few minutes to get the pressure and temperature of the water decent :/ The bed was springy and little and the closet was way too tiny. The air conditioner was incredibly loud; but had to remain on due to the fact that it ws humid. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't all terrible, just for the most part. The Hotel is centrally located - I mean right on the strip of Waikiki Beach. You could walk anywhere. The hotel was just shabby. In need of major renovation.. It was cheap for the location but if you are expecting nice you will be dissapointed. It wasn't that bad for me just because we spent much of our outdoors. So if you just plan on showering and sleeping go for it! Park in the street just read the signage posted.

Need imporvment in hotel room too small and not clean. like neighbourhood. so conviniance. close to beach, reastaurants, shopping and transportation.

It was an OK deal for me

Good price. Good location. Average service. Not everything in the room was clean but not surprisingly bad either for the price. Lower level rooms facing the ocean side are noisy due to busy traffice on the street.
