Not a 4 Star Hotel

The check-in took half an hour, and the line was not particularly long. For whatever reason, each guest ahead of me at the counter took like 20 minutes to get checked-in and the line was not moving. To top it off, I specifically requested a smoking room. But when I got to the room, it said non-smoking! If you can believe, they still have those clunky tubes for TVs. I expected flat-screen for a 4 star hotel. On top of that, the room had a huge column right next to the TV, so if you're sitting on the couch, you cannot watch the TV. Only while lying in bed can you view the TV. The bathroom is showing its age, the shower and the faucet in the tub were simultaneously gushing water. The light bulb on the vanity mirror was out. This is at most a 3 star hotel.

Save Money but Lose on Location

Extremely attractive Hotel room $$. However, be aware that you will likely shell out enough money in taxis to get to the strip that you might as well stay at the MGM grand or others. Hotel isn't bad but far from the center of the action.

Overpriced. First room assigned smelled like sewer gas, 2nd room although non-smoking as requested, smelled strongly of cigarette smoke. A housekeeper in the hall said the people in the room next door the night before were heavy smokers. She sprayed something in the air and it was improved. Too tired to ask for 3rd room. Ashtrays at all elevators overflowing and smelly. Room service brought wrong order first time, had to go back to kitchen to get correct tray. Entire hotel needs maintenance; outdated, shabby.

The furniture in the room was old. The cushions on the sofa were flat and sinking into the frame of the sofa. There were stains on the carpet. There was no coffee pot in the room. Toiletries were minimal. The casino was far too smokey from smokers suggesting a poor air ventilation system. Internet access was $12.00 a day! The major good thing that this hotel has going for it is the service orientatioin of the staff. Staff were consistently helpful.

Things have changed

In the past few months I have stayed at the rio at least once a month and on prior visits was very happy. This visit things changed the room was not as clean plumping was not working and I could not get the king bed I requested. Ther is a difference between the two queen beds. that room is not as nice.

They just can't get their act together!

I have stayed there before...I asked for internet service...spent 2 hours trying to get it...to no avail...then was told by a third party vendor that there was no interet service in my room! This time I got internet service after reminding them twice! but now I can not get the bill for it and I have spent 30 minutes requesting it!

Showing its age

Positives: (1)the room was as large as advertised on the Rio's virtual tour. We needed the space as we had a couple larger items that would have made a "regular" sized room very cramped; and (2) the location - it's within walking distance of Ceasars and Bellagio if you have comfortable shoes. But better to drive and self-park or catch the shuttle. Negatives: The hotel is showing it's age and is nothing spectacular. The sinks were incredibly stopped up; we called twice and then we stopped at the front desk the next morning and requested they be unclogged again or they'd be moving us to another room. This worked. The furniture is old; no flat screen TV. This wouldn't have been a problem if they had the CRT TV on a swivel on top of the credenza. And the bathroom was a decent size but again old and faded fixtures. (And it was not too appealing to sit in; no choice but to soak one night.) Also, went to the pool and there were no waiters; just a person walking around offering massages. A sign at the entrance prohibits food and drink, which is more than a bit annoying. You don't have waiters in pool area but you will stop me from bringing my own snacks, etc in? I guess they wanted me to walk over to the bar and waste my time there waiting to be served rather than enjoying my limited sun time. Anyway, we got a great rate because we booked a month out, and it got the job done. But next time we are in Vegas, we will spring for a hotel with a few more amenities and better ambiance.

Bad experience with the cleanliness of the room

The room was big and comfortable. There was dried vomit on the toilet when we arrived, which showed that the housekeeping was not serious. The hotel is located away from the Strip but offers a shuttle service. Forget about it during rush hours though. Had better experience in other hotels in Vegas so will stay at another place next time.

Hasn't aged all that well

I was in two different rooms during my stay. In both rooms, the toilet tank leaked water when flushed. The toilet is also right next to the shower, which shouldn't be necessary, as the room itself is quite big otherwise. The view is nice. Room service wasn't absurdly expensive. The casino is not as nice as some others on the strip, IMHO. They also have a very loud and unpleasant song/dance show that plays directly on the casino floor -- it's impossible to escape.

Moldy Shower Curtain

I had the unlucky experience of being given Room 1703 at the Ipanema Tower which is very far from the parking structure (you'd probably say, what's the big deal? It happens in most Las Vegas hotels because the hotels are BIG). The thing is, I specifically asked the front desk person to assign me to a room that is closest to the elevator (in fairness, Room 1703 was just one suite away from the elevators) since I was travelling with a senior citizen. Well, if the guest is not fit enough to walk from the elevator to a suite farther down the hall, why make the guest walk across the entire length of the casino - from the parking garage to the Ipanema Tower? Well, I guess you can fault "miscommunication" for that big inconvenience. The hotel itself is nice. Good for singles and the upbeat crowd. Don't bring the kids unless you want to expose them to dancers and singers who perform on a small stage in skimpy outfits. The hostesses also walk around in similar revealing outfits. Like I said, good for the bachelors and upbeat crowds. What is unforgivable, though, is the bathroom that smelled of raw sewage the first time we entered the suite. The exhaust fan was not working (again, I only mean Suite 1703 at the Ipanema Tower). Also, the inner shower curtain had some black spots which I presumed to be molds. Other than that the suite was nice and roomy. I will probably be back to Rio (minus the senior citizen companion and definitely without any kids). After all, the seafood buffet is really GRRRReat! Thanks to hotels.com, I didn't have to pay regular price for this sad experience.

Needs An Update

I booked a double w/two queen beds and were informed at arrival that they did not have any more so my friend and I had to share. My friend ended up sleeping on the couch. The room was strange. It had a window in the bedroom looking into the shower. It seemed pretty clean but decor was very outdated. Prefer staying on the Strip.
