Owens' Motel

Relatively inexpensive for the area, but...

Disappointing. We arrived at about 10:30 PM and since the office had already closed (which surprised me a little for a Friday night during peak season) and our key was in an envelope taped to the door (along with three other envelopes). The room did not have a phone, but was in decent condition. Overall, the motel was run down. Although they had spent some money in the courtyard part of the hotel encasing the overhang support columns in drivit, the maids had damaged all of them with the cleaning carts. We were out of the room all day Saturday and when we returned, we found that the cleaning people had not pulled the door closed and we did not need a key to get back in. I doubt that I would stay there again.

Ew

This place was extremely disappointing. When I walked in the door after checking in I kicked a giant dead beetle that was about two inches big. Then I saw another giant beetle in the sink in the middle of the night and I do not know if they were cockroaches or not either way I am disgusted. The shower was so small I could barely turn around in it, the bed was lumpy and uncomfortable, and the entire place smelled of institutional disinfectant. Again, ew.

Very Dirty Rooms

No telephone in room No coffee in room No Kleenex in room Floors dirty not vacuumed. Spots on rug. Mattress worn out Clerk at office quoted "WE give you a bed and a tv". Not even a tv guide. Hotel nowhere near advertized image. This is not a suitable place to stay. I stayed the 1 day, and canceled the remaining three days of my reservation.

Not for families

Our room carpet was damp upon arrival and stayed damp the 3 days that we stayed there. Our bath tub did not drain when we showered and there were "white" flies all in the bathroom. For the price that we paid we would have expected complimentary shampoos and coffee. They did have a coffee maker but nothing came with it. We had 3 people registered to our room and room service only left 2 towels and 1 wash cloth. The hotel pool was attached to the restraunt, so while people were walking in and out going to dinner they could see us and it was very uncomfortable. All in all I do not recommend this hotel for longer than 1 night stay. And expect not to be able to park by your room on weekends. I have stayed in quite a few hotels and this has to be the worst.

Shady at best

Even though the price is relatively cheaper than surrounding properties, it is not worth the cost. The rooms are outdated and not clean. The bathroom was very dirty, make sure to bring shower shoes. Also, there were several spots both in the bathroom, shower, and main area with mildew and mold.

Got what I paid for.

I searched for the cheapest hotel I could find and I found Owen's. The first day there I walked into the bathroom and fell in a puddle of toilet water that had leaked all over the floor. They upgraded us after that, but then our room keys stopped working several times. The room had cobwebs in the corners, and bugs on the floor and window sills. I guess I got what I paid for, which wasn't much. We managed to have a fantastic vacation regardless of the hotel situation.

Remove Coffee Pots from Rooms Needs Improvement

No coffee available for rooms but, rooms have coffee pots. Also paid for Kingsize bed and was given (2) doubles without receiving a refund.

Overall Conditions

We were very disappointed with our room. There was a coffee maker, but no coffee or cups. No tissues. The lamp between the beds didn't work because there was no outlet in which to plug it in. The shower drain was plugged. After 15 seconds in the shower, the water started to back up. After a 3 minute shower, we were standing in 3 inches of drain water. The sink drain was the same way. The sink plunger was inoperable. The curtain rod was broken and inoperable. The air conditioner was very noisy. To get to the bathroom you went through 8 inches of space between the wall and bed or you could go over the bed, I suppose.

Smallest shower ever!

The hotel room was small. The only complaint would be the very small shower! Even my kids thought it was small. The room was clean.

great location

Great location right across from the beach and across from shopping outlet! When me and my boyfriend first got there we stripped the beds to check for bugs. We do this at every hotel honestly. Well in one bug we found a "silver fish" type bug crawling on the pillow! i FREAKED! we just didnt sleep in that bed at all. There was another problem that could have been from annoying children that were staying near us. We put out the "please clean our room" but when we came back he was flipped to "do not disturb." so then we flipped it around again, and when we came back...it was flipped back to "do not disturb." This could have been the staff being lazy..or just the kids staying a few doors down from us. Who knows.

no phones in the rooms

The rooms didn't have phones, the pillows were the most uncomfortable things ever, (the mattress was a close second) the kitchen sink made gurgling noises in the middle of the night, there was no way to block the front porch lights from coming in the window and keeping us up all night. You could hear everything going on in the rooms around you and there was dry blood on my pillow case.

Needs improvement

Service was excellent. Room overall in adequate repair. However, the carpet in bad need of replacement. Strong smell of urine. Towels were stained and in need of replacement.

NEEDS IMPROVEMENT

This hotel is really very bad and horrible. Front desk people are not helpful or courteous and did not even give basic info. No coffee in the room. Had to go to 711 which is 1/2 mile away for morning coffee. TV is malfunctioning.There are absolutely no amenities. It was a mistake choosing this hotel where as there are many better hotels in the neighborhood. Bed and pillows are not comfortable. In short eminently forgettable hotel with a score of 1 out of 10
