Trip Type: Romance Review 1 of 160Wonderful Escape
Our unfortunately only one night stay exceeded our expectations, we would love to return. Dinner could be a little more exciting, but overall it was a wonderful experience.

Trip Type: Business Review 3 of 160Great room for the money
Had a low budget room on the first floor with a view of the parking lot, but considering what I paid, it was good value. A room with marina or ocean views would have been better, but no complaints.

Trip Type: Business Review 4 of 160Great Room for money but steep parking fee!
We arrived on a late flight and only checked in at 11:30 pm. Upon entering the surroundings were clean and welcoming along with the hotel staff. One thing that was not mentioned on check-in was that regardless of where you parked (self-or valet), there was a $20 parking fee. This I found was a bit ridiculous for self-parking. Beyond that, the room was great and the beds very comfortable. We had the marina view and had no disturbance from the seals. Overall I would recommend the hotel. Great location for what we needed and easy in/out access.

Trip Type: Family Review 5 of 160Great Service
We enjoyed our stay. The service was great. The first room we stayed in had an ant problem. The hotel moved us immediately and upgraded our view. We enjoyed the bicycle ride on the strand with the hotels bicycles.

Trip Type: Family Review 6 of 160Parking is an issue
Parking charge of $20 which is not transparent when you checkin. The room descriptions/pictures not consistent with actual room we stayed. The shower was excellent and great location.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 7 of 160Great price for the location
We enjoyed our stay at Portofino, which claims to be the only hotel in California actually on the water so great views are virtually assured, although ours was largely blocked by the hotel's restaurant. Of course parking is minimal, costly & extra which is not surprising given the location. Loved the nautical theme & beds very comfy.

Loud music all night into morning coming from restaurant; put coffee/tea pots in rooms, or offer complimentary tea as well as coffee; view from the lobby out window to harbor is Fabulous!; Great decorator; would go again

Trip Type: Special Event Review 10 of 160Great hoel
We really enjoyed our stay, especially the complimentary use of the bicycles. We had 2 great rids along the beach and enjoyed the local restaurants, which were all walking distance. The hotel was clean and quiet, and the room was big. Very enjoyable.

Trip Type: Romance Review 12 of 160Outstanding Hotel, Nice Amenities, Wall Soundproofing Could Use Improvement
Everything, including amenities, cleanliness, hotel staff, view, location - everything was outstanding. The only area of improvement from my point of view was the noise. During the day, it was fine (lots of outside ocean ambient noise, which is pleasant) but in the evenings when things are quieter, noises from other rooms can be heard quite easily. Had to knock on the room next to mine to ask them to quiet their talking/laughing at 2:30am. Tried calling front desk at first, but didn't get an answer. Thankfully, the next room guests politely complied with my request. Other than that, I'd recommend this hotel. Definitely planning on staying there again - it's a great hotel.

Trip Type: Not Provided Review 13 of 160Go to be pampered...Great hotel for the money
I had a ball; I thoroughly enjoyed my stay! My first pleasant experience came when I called ahead to confirm my request for a DVD in my Marina View room. I was told that DVDs are standard in the Ocean View rooms but not Marina. However, I was not only assured my request was noted; I was given a complimentary upgrade to an Ocean View room at no additional charge to insure that I'd have the DVD!!! It was a very basic one DVD player with only three buttons, Power, Play and Stop -- but I gave it quite a workout with my DVDs and CDs. My second thrill came when I saw my room. It was small, but very clean and smartly dressed in an elegant nautical theme; complete with everything I needed to be totally comfortable. The bathroom was absolutely beautiful and I've never slept in a more comfortable bed in my life. Down comforters, cozy quilt and soft pillows – half feather, half down. Yum! Finally, I had determined before my stay that I'd rest completely and order room service as much as possible for my meals. Well, The Baleen accommodated me graciously and served me some of the prettiest, tastiest food I have ever eaten at a hotel!! I gained 5 pounds easily! Everything from the rainfall-like shower head, to the private bar and fully stocked refrigerator...and of course the Ocean view...made my week-long stay a completely restful and luxurious one. I lived like a rock star – on a budget! I will definitely be coming back. It will be my guilty pleasure, hopefully, annually. And about the staff -- they were great. The bellboy practically carried me from my car to my room with all my bags when I arrived. One call brought help again when I left. And every time I called for this or that during my stay, to either to the Hotel or the Baleen staff, they actually thanked me for giving them something to do. The only drawbacks for me were that (A) everything in the private bar had a price tag, plus service charge and tax. You're tempted to consume because it's right there at your fin

Great place, especially if you have a ocean view room. Staff is very polite and helpful. Only bad part is that they charge you $20 a day to park. I found this ridiculous.
