Horrible Service

Tokyo has sooo many hotels. And most of them are pretty good. On this last extended trip, I stayed in 4 different hotels across Tokyo and this was the absolute worst. The English of the staff is horrible, the worst I've seen in Tokyo at a hotel. I honestly, don't understand the good reviews on the hotels.com site -- all I can think is that most people come on a tour of some kind and so get better treatment because they are with a group. If you are by yourself, the staff treat you like crap. They also totally understood that I had already paid via hotels.com and as a result was stuck with them. If my favorite hotel was not fully booked I would have left in spite of the hotels.com reservation. The only good think about the hotel is that it's right next to the subway and a couple blocks from Shinjuku station which is convenient. But honestly, most of Tokyo is near a station! Better hotels: Metropolitan (both Tokyo and Ikebukuro), also the Shinagawa Prince is good for the money.

Location only

The room was very small as expected, but the hotel had no lounge or other comfortable place or conveniences to be able to get out of the room to stretch. More like a 2 and half star.

So Disappointed

As this is supposedly a hotel for international guests you would think they know how to speak English. You would also think they would have a concierge to tell you or at least help you on where to go. All the brochures where in Japanese and no one at the hotel knew of places for us to explore.

Rude management

Other reviews that mention bad service hit it right on the head. My partner and I wanted to move our room to the side with the best view after we saw a friend's room. 'No' said the management through his employee-- the manager refused to talk to me directly despite the fact that I was standing two feet away. (Our rooms faced 16 floors of men's bathroom of the office building next door where we got a view of the hardworking office workers of Shinjuko 24/7 lining up at the urinals.) The reason we couldn't move? It wasn't a lack of empty rooms. The rooms facing the best view are for one person, not two. Same room size, same bed size, but rules are rules and the guest isn't to be accommodated at the Sunroute.
