Long on Pretense, Short on Service

Good eye appeal, but the bed got HARD after about 2 hours. Like really, painfully hard. Also, be prepared to be ignored if you wander into the onsite restaraunt-bar. I sat directly across the bar from four snappy-looking young bar tenders for most of ten mintues, never heard so much as "Be with you in a minute". The place was mostly empty and one of them stood & polished highball glasses directly across the bar from me!!! Why bother w/ such???

Never again...

We had to move rooms after half an hour because the toilet was leaking badly -fair enough, that happens - but the a/c was far too noisy in the new room. The whole night carousing revellers ran shouting up and down all the corridors and we finally gave in and phoned the desk to complain at 4.30 to be told that they had called the police and nothing else could be done. The hotel is situated about fifty feet from a freeway up and down which there were impromptu motorbike races all night long. The perfectly pleasant desk clerk the next morning took the parking charge off our bill as some form of compensation. Memorably awful stay.

Not all it's cracked up to be...Girls Weekend was a bust

When I first arrived at Hotel Derek the staff greeted me and answered questions. The bellman assisted with the carts and took them to the room. I expected the room to be more spacious for the money I paid. Also, I was told there was a complimentary luxury shuttle service to hotspots within a 3 mile radius which was true, but I wasn't informed that the service stopped at 11pm. I planned a girls weekend that included dining, dancing, and drinking. We had to forego the drinking when we were forced to drive ourselves to and from the nightclub. Overall the staff was friendly and helpful, but there was nothing that stood out about Hotel Derek. The deal breaker was the room size compared to the cost. I will not be staying there again and I wouldn't recommend it to others.

This Hotel is real Ghetto, it seems like they host a nest of pimps and H*e's. It felt like a lot of the FEMA people are still in the Hotel and I could have sworn this place host's a ring of ho*kers. I like a nice party vibe with good looking people but this plce was just GHETTO. Nice location that's it. Have fun....

really nice hotel...if I was the owner, I'd be P.O.'d

Hotel was very nice. Clean, contemporary/modern, etc. None of the valet spoke (or wrote) English very well, and was consistently slow. Whenever we called to have valet bring the car up, it was never there when we arrived and thy all acted as if there was no call made. Front desk was froendly, but totally clueless as to the local attractions or conveniences. Hallway noise bled into the room quite a bit. If you're looking for quite, this is not the place. Nice hotel, but probably won't go back.

Horrible Customer Service and the rooms are hot!

The lady at the front desk need to go back and get come more customer service training. Our room was on 66 and it was still warm. Also, they don't offer bell service which I don't quite understand.

Disappointing accomodations

I have stayed at the Derek twice before and found it to be of excellent standards. The hotel has obviously taken a downward turn. The previously very nice bar and restaurant are gone, with more then a few tables and a bar stools leaving no ambience and certainly no customers or locals who used to stop by at this hip place for a drink after work. Secondly, the west side facing rooms are extremely hot and noisy. Even though we were told to keep our shades closed, the air conditioning was not cold and the I-10 highway noise was unbearable and we had to ask to be moved across the hall to the east side. The pool is a "slice" of water wedged in a very odd pie shaped corner w/little or no sun exposure at all and lack of total ambience and looked more like an indoor hot tub /shower area. The location and the neighborhood has changed obviously and felt somewhat risky at night to even go across the street to the local pharmacy , as well it is next to impossible to turn in or get out onto the street in your car given the heavy congestion 24 x 7.

A/C Needs Improvement

The hotel was nice and trendy, but we had issues with our A/C. It was very stuffy, humid and warm in the room. It took about 45 minutes for them to move us to another room which was a little better. One of the front desk associates was extremely rude...need to work on their customer service skills.

Had a dress stolen out of the closet--DO not stay here.

I had a Neiman Marcus dress stolen out of the closet no more than 2 hrs from checking out. I checked out at 2 pm and realized I left the dress around 4 pm. I called the hotel to let them know and they told me housekeeping did not find anything in lost and found from my room but to check with housekeeping the next day. I called several more times and they finally told me that no dress was found and that the housekeeper who cleaned my room was "trustworthy". I am very disappointed with this hotel and do not recommend anyone staying here. I would never have expected to have something stolen in this "caliber" hotel.

NOT AT ALL WHAT I EXPECTED

I expected a great hotel when my boyfriend and I decided to stay at this hotel. We were put in a room on the same floor as a wedding part and their guests. People were running up and down the halls screaming all night long. The room right next to us had very loud music playing ALL Night long and people were yelling. The walls were very thin. WE called the front desk, but nothing was done. We got NO sleep whatsoever. When we were waiting for the elevators the next morning, another couple walked up and heard us talking and they had the same experience we had with the noise. I would not recommed this hotel to anyone ever.

valet parking only ?

i hated having to pay for valet parking per night and tip those guys for doing so. It is not cheap. the room was OK but I could have stayed in another less expensive hotel and still felt the same.

My family just returned from a ation i houstio at hotel Derek. Upon check out I was informed of almost $100. in valet parking fee. I never asked for valet parking. The hotel staff stated there was no other parking available. We tipped the parking staff Very Good. I would not have given almost $75 in tip If I owuld have know. I feel you should tell your guest about the parking fees tht will be aded to your bill. When I spoke with the manager about this, he was not helpful and refused to lower any of the charges. He acted as though he was the owner of the hotel. I will never stay at hotel Derek ever again. The htoel staff are great. The management could use classes in customer service.

The hotel is located in the middle of town and at night you can hear all the Saturday night traffic and the camera that flashed every time someone passed a red light.
