Trip Type: Not Provided Review 1 of 30Undergoing rennovations
The Gold Spike is currently undergoing rennovations (November 2009). Not sure when rennovations are to be completed. The room was satisfactory and the price was right. It's very convenient to the Freemont Street Experience and accessible to major highways.

Trip Type: Business Review 4 of 30Best Value in Downtown
Remodeling was in proces , but presented little inconvience . This is the lowest priced hotel in Downtown and maybe all of Vegas yet the accomadations were comfortable and in the 2 to 2 1/2 star range . Freemont Street is a block or two so you can get the whole Downtown Experience without being stuck in one big mega casino and without risking traffic tickets renting cars , etc.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 5 of 30Lowest price, and quality.
I got an awesome deal on the price of the hotel. Problem was they are remodeling so the room wasn't real bad, but the hallways smelled funky. The beds were hard, but the room was livable. Definatly a budget hotel, but once they finish the remodel it should be a nice looking hotel. And the BJ tables are great! Very nice dealers who make it a lot of fun

Trip Type: Special Event Review 9 of 30Cheap price so it was what I expected
I could not believe that I found a hotel room in Las Vegas for such a low price. I felt the money that I paid for the room was indeed a good value. I was not expecting a high quality resort for the price and I received a decent place to sleep for a low price. The employees were very friendly to me. The hotel is doing rennovations. The cold water pressure was low in the bathroom sink. The toilet didn't flush well. The sink and shower did not drain quickly. The hotel restaurant was not of the best quality but it was convenient. It did offer Prime Rib dinner for a really low price. In general, if you are looking for a cheap place to stay and aren't overly picky, this hotel will fit the bill. The casino had some nice slot and poker machines, if that is the type of gambling that you like. It is a small casino but in walking distance of plenty of others, as it is in walking distance to the Fremont Experience (one block away) and also in walking distance from a Walgreen Pharmacy (if you forget incidentals). I would not recommend this hotel, however if you have high standards. You do get what you pay for. It worked well for my brother and me. We stayed without regret for four nights.

Trip Type: Business Review 10 of 30Okay deal for the money
I was wary of staying here, but it wasn't bad at all. Room was decent, although a bit small. No remote for TV, like some others said. Biggest problem was finding parking on some nights--other nights wasn't a problem at all. 5 minute wait opened up parking spot. One black from Freemont St. was nice. Also close to bus station and city hall. No additional facilities fee, despite what the info page said. What I paid online was total price. They didn't even ask for credit card upon check-in. For the price, I would stay again.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 12 of 30UNDER CONSTRUCTION REMODELING BUT CHEAP! PEOPLE ARE SUPER HERE!
As per the reviews and site before we purchased our stay at the Spike, they are remodeling and enlarging the hotel. It's true most of the rooms are outdated and in need of repair badly, but they are dirt cheap. Our room was clean and our house keeper Lenore was fantastic! The casino has been remodeled but the only thing we really didn't care for was all money is handpay,so you have to wait to be paid in person, even for a nickle.Be sure to say hi to Eugene on the floor he is also a Super nice guy! The people there make up for the outdated rooms and construction noise.Super service. The food in the newly remodeled grill is great and cheap! The waiter Ray is Superb. They also opened the new bar area on Superbowl Sunday or about then.I've been coming to the Gold spike for years and I love it here.We will be going back for sure.

Trip Type: Family Review 13 of 30Great room for the money as well they have a great restaurant on the premises
Our stay was excellent. The beds were comfortable. The maid service is immediate upon your request and they are very friendly and courteous. We know the hotel is being renovated, but for the price and location it was excellent for our needs. Their restaurant the Golden Grill serves a very reasonable and large breakfast with a large amount of ham and eggs with potatoes and toast for only $3.99. Their prime rib special is outstanding for a 12 ounce cut only $4.95. This value is the cheapest in Las Vegas. The service at the restaurant is outstanding as well as the food. I would say this hotel is one of the best values in town.

Trip Type: Business Review 15 of 30you get what you pay for
the price was right, but, the hotel is a bit difficult to get to because of the construction. the parking lot is small, the room was dirty. like i said, you get what you pay for. i would recommend the hotel to those looking for a great price.
