Trip Type: Romance Review 1 of 14Hot
Stiflingly hot room, no way to turn down the heat except to open the windows wide. Saying that, the location and views were great. It was like a holiday inn with better shampoo, more ornate lamps and no free wifi. thumbs down.

Trip Type: Special Event Review 2 of 14Good location, but....
Our room was extremely hot - they could not control the heat. We had to sleep with the window open (it was 15 degrees outside) as a result the room was rather noisy. Then the window broke and would not close all the way.

Trip Type: Special Event Review 3 of 14Our bathroom smelled like mold
The public space at the Taj is elegant. The staff couldn't be nicer. They give you perks like a "menu" for your pillow, special slippers at night, a free Sunday New York Times (worth $5). BUT our room was just ordinary, the bathroom reeked of mold, no matter how I tried to cover it. I probably should have asked for a change of room. But I did complain and nothing happened as far as I could tell. The $6.77 they charged for a bottle of water from the honor bar cancelled out the free NYT. The location, however, is perfect.

Trip Type: Romance Review 4 of 14Not worth it for the money
On top of a ridiculous starting rate, the hospital charges fees on top for just about everything it can. Shower temperature was very erratic, from temperate to insanely hot. The faucet had little to do with it. Also could do without the blaring alarms for 2 hours at 6am warning me (on the 6th floor) of a water leak in the kitchen on the ground floor.

Trip Type: Special Event Review 5 of 14How the Taj uses deceptive tactics on dog owners....
Would have had a much better experience if Hotels.com and the Taj explicitly listed what the Taj's dog policy is. Basically, they ask that you call 48 hours prior to your arrival to see if a dog-friendly room is available. When you call they tell you that there is a $125 non-refundable dog fee. (By that point you have no choice because no other dog-friendly hotel in the area has an available room.) When you check in, they tell you that they won't let a dog over 15lbs stay there....That really sucks especially when you have a yellow lab that weighs 80 lbs standing with you at the reception desk. After a total meltdown at the reception desk, they waive the weight restriction. It is a shame that when I stayed there when it was the Ritz, I had NO issues whatsoever! Skip the Taj dog owners!

Trip Type: Overnight Stay Review 6 of 14Overpriced
It was too expensive to park there. Almost everthing other than the bare room came at additional cost.

Trip Type: Rest and Recreation Review 7 of 14Not what I expected
I specifically choose this hotel because of it's rating. I was very disappointed. I had origionally bookrd two rooms but had to cancel one-when I arrived the wrong room had been cancelled. When I explained I needed two double beds rather than a king the hotel grudgingly gave me a. porer quality room. The beds seemed old, poorly made, the mattrass lumpy. The shower valve did not work so there was only a trickle of water. A pot of tea and three glasses of tap water from room service cost $28! The location was great but I definately would not stay here again!

Trip Type: Romance Review 8 of 14Drying Off with a Wet Towel
My girlfriend and I had a nice weekend in Boston. Our stay at the Taj was, for the most part, nice and comfortable. The amenities (fitness center) were nice, the bed was very comfortable, our room was clean, the shower water-pressure was great, and the overall atmosphere was elegant. We had some fairly significant issues with service during our last night, however. We got back to our room to find only one towel. Assuming they had just forgotten to leave two, we called the front desk and asked for another. After 40 minutes of waiting, we called back, at which point in time they informed us that they didn't have ANY towels available. Not a single one. I find it hard to understand how a luxury hotel, allegedly proud of 4.5-star service, can run out of clean towels? Also, their towel deficit aside, I suppose they didn't think to call us back and let us know, rather than have us sitting there, waiting endlessly? I'm not sure how this fiasco happened, but it wasn't the best way to end our stay. In addition, we were missing a sheet (one that we had the night before) on our bed? So that means, after they cleaned our room the second night, they came back in for turn down service, took one of our towels, and removed the sheet from our bed? Interesting version of turn down I'd say. It was fairly late at night, and we didn't feel like calling and asking for a sheet (especially with the potential risk of waiting an hour for it without result) so we just went to bed. In either case, I don't mean to nit-pick, but this does seem mildly reflective of the overall service at the hotel. On the one hand, we were obviously able to make do without fresh towels by reusing the one we had, and were able to sleep on the bed without a sheet. But on the other hand, when you pay to stay at a 4-4.5 star hotel, should you really have to? Again, our weekend in Boston was great (amazing city), and our experience at the hotel had been flawless up until this hiccup. Maybe it was a rare circumstance, o

Trip Type: Business Review 9 of 14"Make the beds?"
For instance: The bedspread and pillow covers were never on the bed - they were in a pile near the TV console. I got my car back from valet parking - three (3) weeks later, it turns out, some varmit had gotten in and eaten through some wiring ... so I'm out $3700 to repair the car. Frankly: Just not worth it. At least, not for a regular room. Maybe for a fireplace, or something ...

Trip Type: Not Provided Review 11 of 14THe Hotel needs more than just a name change
Taj Hotel is known for their service and it does not let you down. However the former Ritz Carlton is tired and needs some perking UP. iT'S WONDERFUL IT HAS WORKING FIREPLACES BUT ALSO HAS A GREAT DEAL OF SMOKE RESIDUE. I think they are going to have to convert the fireplaces to gas as it's more of a liabilty and really hurts the overall hotel environment for the rest. Also have to update the bathrooms and plumbing.

Trip Type: Business Review 12 of 14Taj Could be better for the price
For the price paid and the name that it has I would expect extras such as breakfast and internet connection to be included in the price. Good location although not right in the heart of the city and probably over priced for what you get

Trip Type: Special Event Review 13 of 14Personnel needs improvement (desk personnel)
I was extremely disappointed...My 81 year old mother was with me who just came from Mass. General Hospital and was in need of a nap...Check-in time is 3 pm...we had to wait in the lobby until 3:45 because our room was not ready...no apologies from the desk clerks...they actually seemed aggravated with me when I expressed my displeasure with the whole situation...The room I booked and "double checked" on was for 2 twin beds...Our room had a king size bed...I, again, went to the desk and asked and I was told there were no twins available even though it was confirmed by a phone call that we would indeed have twin beds...I would not stay at the Taj again...BUT, I must say that every other employee in that hotel that I came in contact with was absolutely delightful...Samuel in the dining room was just spectacular and the door men and valet employees were also just wonderful...the desk help...should learn to smile.
