Trip Type: With Friends Review 1 of 95Communication
The communication among the employees is horrible. I was told three diffrent stories in regards to their valet parking and needless to say I walked away from the situation not satisfied with the outcome.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 3 of 95Great location however needs improvement
This hotel has a great location. However, the condition of the hotel is not too nice where the room's wall is very thin and we can hear every single thing in the hallway. The door is also close very loud where we can hear any door open or close. We requested non-smoking room and when we check in, they put us in the smoking room. In the first night, we got awake by the neighbour door 5 am in the morning. Front desk people also doesn't seem to have good knowledge. They gave us wrong information about the trolley tour.

Trip Type: Overnight Stay Review 4 of 95Noisy hotel, but great location
The hotel is in need of some renovations. The carpeting and the furniture were quite worn. Not only could we hear conversations easily from the hallway, but they had an event going on in the ballroom above, so we could hear pounding music until 12:30 in the morning. The one and only saving grace for this hotel is that the location is fanastic.

Trip Type: Romance Review 5 of 95Great location but ...
Last weekend we were in Chicago to celebrate our wedding anniversary & stayed 2 nights at Hotel 71. By far the best asset of the hotel is its location -- easy walking distance to the theater district, could catch either a bus or boat tour a block away, & has a nice outdoor ambiance with outdoor cafes/restaurants all around. However, our room on the 38th floor, though quite clean, had a tired look about it -- an old TV, a chipped drawer, a non-working security lock chain, & stains in the bath tub. I asked for a remodeled room (a reviewer's recommendation)upon check-in but was told none were available. Also the AC at high fan & maximum cooling ran non-stop but did not cool off the room adequately. The vent's location in the corner of the room away from the bed/bathroom area probably had something to do with its efficiency. There are also only 2 elevators, so the wait was a problem at times. There was a wedding reception going on Sat. night in the ballroom, which is 2 floors above our floor. The music could be heard in our room, especially the irritating bass. Even with ear plugs, that bass came through. On a positive note, the help staff was very cordial & available. Valet parking was $43 a night, probably an average rate in Chicago. Would have been nice to have a self-parking option though! I'd stay here again but only in a remodeled room with a better functioning AC.

Trip Type: Family Review 6 of 95Shoe Box for a not so Shoe Box budget!
We get to the "W" about 7 p.m. nice nice Check In Counter loved the decor and the ambiance...so were all excited to get up to our "Spectacular Room" as its called and our adreniline is running on excitement of first openeing the door and expecting this grand room with the beautiful view.....Cant complain about the view it is spectacular....but the size of this room was so dissapointing its unbelievable that one has to litteraly move to one side of the room to let someone else pass to the window....not only that ...but the restroom has a shudder...thats right a shudder that is right by the one bed...so if you go with your significant other and your wanting privacy from ...I hate to say it ...smell and sound...this is not the hotel for you...one can litterly hear the other in the restroom ....I cant see this hotel as a family hotel with kids...the rooms are super super smal....staff was very nice...car was brought to the front promptly but small small rooms I cant stress enouph!....

Trip Type: With Friends Review 7 of 95needs improvement, but ok for location
for a supposed 3 1/2 star hotel, i would say more like a 2 1/2 or 3. Positives were location, view, and rooms were spacious, very nice, and clean. Negatives were for a hotel its size it only has 2 elevators, that were very slow and broke all weekend. I took 16 flights of stairs a couple of times, because I didnt want to wait 30 minutes or get stuck. They also had elevators to stop on 2nd and 5th floor everytime up and down. I am assuming this was for cleaning service and the 5th floor looked like an office floor. Also, no concierge service, no bellmen, none of the extras you expect on Michigan Avenue. I would have paid the same amount a night at a major chain hotel. There also was no bar or restaurant, which they have a little cocktail hour setup which was very basic. Overall, like I said room was great, as location and view. I just wish i would have been on 1st floor.

Trip Type: Romance Review 8 of 95Great Room/Location but Everything else was sub-par.
Firstly, the location and the actual room were great. The bathroom was very nice. Here are the problems. The walls were paper thin. You could hear EVERYTHING in the hallways and other rooms. There are no in room movies AT ALL. In all of the 37+ floors of the hotel there are only TWO (2) ice machines. Room service ends at an unimaginable 11pm and if you want any water you have to go to the fitness center on the 37th floor (in my case I had to transfer elevators on a different floor). There is no mini bar, no refrigerator in the room and I already mentioned only 1 vending machine in the entire hotel and only 2 ice machines. With the great location and the overall comfort of the room, you would think that this hotel would offer the other ammenities that make a hotel stay more enjoyable (24 hour room service, ice/vending on every floor, in room movies, mini bar, refrig, solid walls that eliminate sound, etc). I will just stay at the W or another hotel in which I know what I will get.

Trip Type: Family Review 10 of 95Great Location but a bit dated
Half the rooms have been renovated. Ours was not, so it was a bit dated. However, you can't beat the location!

Trip Type: Special Event Review 11 of 95worse experience ever!
we were there for four days/ three nights 4th July weekend, the first day was fine, and the second night was my worse experience ever in hotel stay!! my next door was loud and party till 3am in the morning, people come and go in between midnight till early morning, door slammed and people were talking in the hall way, wondering has the hotel check the occupancy of staying in one single room? Called front desk and not help at all. We had the room changed on the 3rd day, but still a BAD experience anyway. if you love to party, a new opened Doubletree operated hotel-the wit is not too far away. Anyway, the house keeping is doing great job, the location is great, other than that worse experience ever, I will not stay here again in my next year Chicago trip!

only one elevator in service. Awakened at 3:00a.m. by drunken guests down the hall.

Trip Type: Not Provided Review 13 of 95Nice hotel, but needs some maintenance
We stayed there for our first visit to Chicago - Great Location but there was only two elevators that serviced about 20 floors and one was broken for approx 3 days before we left - Very inconvenient and it took a very long time to get up and down from your hotel room. Staff was friendly, but there is no on-site restaurant and ice only on a couple of floors with no disposable cups in rooms.

Trip Type: Romance Review 14 of 95Great location
While the hotel has a great location and good views, service has room for a little improvement. We arrived 2 hours before check-in and our room wasn't ready. It took over 3 hours to gain access to our room. Housekeeping accidentally removed personal belongings that had to be located and mailed to out home. The room was not restocked when housekeeping came through. The bell men were wonderful and the front desk staff were pleasant. The room was very comfortable and spacious. Wifi access was especially helpful.

Trip Type: Special Event Review 15 of 95Not Impressive
The hotel was average. Nothing stood out as being great. The decor of the hotel seemed all mismatched. The beds were okay in comfort level, but nothing great. You pay a lot for parking, but you will find that anywhere in Chicago. The one thing that I loved was the location. We were so close to everything, and it was convenient.
