Trip Type: Romance Review 1 of 44Huge Expectations, Big Let Down
Reading the reviews on Hotels.com I was geeked up to see Hotel St. Michel. I planned a romantic weekend for my husband's birthday and I was really disappointed. Starting with arriving at the hotel there was no parking at the building we had to park across the street and carry our luggage. The receptionist did not offer us any help. The set up outside the hotel could use work. There were old tables outside that were not being used (so I didn't see the purpose for them). The lobby and restaurant could use work. The most exciting thing was the old fashioned elevator. Our room was small. That's an understatement. The bed wasn't much bigger than a twin sized bed. The floors were old and felt unsecure. My husband thanked me for wanting to try something new but he said he would prefer modern hotels. The bathroom was small and the shower was rusted. The sink had a slow leak. All in all I was geared up for a great romantic getaway and I was disappointed.

Trip Type: Romance Review 3 of 44Creepy hotel
This hotel is extremely old, not that its a problem but the second we walked into our room we could smell the scent of OLD. The bathroom we had had rust on the tub, they do not supply with the correct toiletries. They gave us two soaps, one shampoo, and two mouthwashs. I've stayed at more simpler hotels and they always have conditioner. There was no fruit in our room as the site mentioned, and the complementary breakfast? Was insane. On top of the bar, there was one tray covered with a blanket that obtained exactly 5 pastries, (2 croissants, and 3 muffins). Mind you we had breakfast at 8:30am, its not like we woke up late and the food ran out. There was coffee and orange juice, and thats it. No cereal, no eggs, no toast, no fresh fruit. Not your usual complimentary breakfast. The hotel is very creepy and old, makes you feel like if you are in a scary movie. My suggestion is pay a little more, and get a lot more than you would at the St. Michel.

Trip Type: Romance Review 5 of 44St Michel
Blast from the past is right - especially when it comes to the beds - they squeaked and the mattress was so old there was a dip in the middle. I felt I was sleeping in dust mite central and not at all happy about that given I have allergies. There was no restaurant and I tried to call reception at midnight and no reply - only wonder what would have happened if I was in need of help if there was an emergency. There's old world charm and then places that are just not kept well. The fruit basket was a china basket with an apple and an orange - both of which had seen better days.

Trip Type: Romance Review 6 of 44Very old fashion with lots of antiques
This is a matter of style. Some people like this type of 40' style, but I'm not a fan at all. The hotel elevator requires special handling with a wood and metal giant stick and no buttons. The hotel ambiance is very dark in general, furnished with dated furniture and antiques all over the place, including very scary wall paintings. Again, this may be paradise for some, just that I'm not in that group.

Trip Type: Business Review 8 of 44"Quaint" needs to be better defined
This hotel is old, not quaint. The same is true of the bedding and pillows which have probably been in service since the hotel's opening. Other dirty things: 1. The TV remote had visible gunk on it (gross!) 2. The shower enclosure 3. The floor throughout (which thankfully was wood, so maybe fewer germs can survive there than on carpet, but please run a broom over the place now and again) Other complaints: Coming and going after dark required waiting for someone to unlock the front door. This isn't a bad neighborhood and I'm not a big fan of the bed and breakfast intimacy that this monitoring of my coming and going brought to this hotel. Good things: 1. Location 2. Maybe price at least compared to other hotels in the area, but I'd pay a bit more somewhere else next time since overall, even for the relatively low price, this place wasn't a good value.

While priced far below the nearby Westin, the Hotel St. Michel should not be viewed as a comparable hotel. The rooms were clean and the service prompt but the hotel is old and shows significant signs of wear. The faux wood floor tiles need replacing and the bathroom was a motley collection of eccentric colorful fixtures. A small armoire took the place of a closet and the room layout made access a challenge. In the plus column, an iron and ironing board were provided immediately when requested and the flat-panel LCD television was a nice touch.

Trip Type: Romance Review 12 of 44What A dissapointment! OR better yet what an insult.
This was such an insult of a stay! For what I payed for I could have stayed at the Biltmore Hotel. There was no ammenities in this hotel. The room was as old as it could get with a view of the alley. The bed head board was of a twin bed. Mind you! we had a kings size bed. Their idea of a complementary fuit basket was of a cheap $.99 cent basket with a left over few days old apple and green tangerine. Oh and lets not forget to mention We found underwear and socks from the previous guest in the dresser. The next morning complementary comtinental breakfast? coffe just coffe! What an insult. Do not stay here.

We selected this hotel for our stay in Miami because it was relatively inexpensive and the positive reviews on Hotel.com outweighed the negatives. The location was convenient and very quiet (we were there a Saturday night and Sunday morning). Staff were friendly, and the hotel itself does have some charm (our kids loved the old-fashioned elevator). It's an easy walk to an excellent French bakery, a Starbucks, and an Einstein bagel shop. However, as another reviewer mentioned, there was a strong disinfectant smell throughout the place - in the halls and in most rooms - and this detracted from our overall impression of the place. Our room ended up not smelling so strongly, but we may have gotten used to it. There was some initial confusion about our reservation - we had reserved a junior suite, and the receptionist said there wasn't one. After looking at an alternate room he determined that there was in fact a junior suite and it was what we expected (large enough for 2 adults and 2 kids). Overall, then, we would not consider this hotel a "find."
