Trip Type: Special Event Review 1 of 59Some issues we had....
We had some issues with the service at this hotel. The room was fine and clean and no issues with the room itself. But I wanted to get in contact with the consierge desk to arrange for a taxi in the morning. I called several times with no answer and finally left a message and asked them to call me regarding getting a taxi for the morning. no one returned my call. Then, the hotel advised that room service started at 5:30am. We called and called and called with no answer. We finally called the front desk at 5:45am to ask what was going on since we had to be on the road by 6:20am and they said they were still getting organized to open up. I'm sorry, but if you advertise that room service starts at 5:30am, please don't be telling me at 5:45am that you're not ready to take orders. Then, we go outside and give our ticket to the valet parking to get our car and they lose the ticket and after standing outside for 15 mins, we ask them where our car is and they look at us with a blank stare and had no idea where our car ticket went. They had to hunt our car down via license plate..... Service wasn't good for us.

Ambassador East used to be a lovely hotel; it has gone way downhill. On top of that, the management and staff do not seem to notice or care. I made myself comfortable and the location was exactly right. The doormen were friendly and courteous. Making the reservation told me in the first place that staff does not care and is not empowered. So I went and made the reservation through Hotels.com -- a great summer deal. Room's carpet was filthy. Had to ask repeatedly for a bottom sheet that went all the way to the end of the bed. Asked for and got a frig and microwave (both old) but the person who brought them did not plug them in properly or check to make sure they were working. I had to do it myself. I hope this hotel upgrades and remembers why they are in business.

The hotel was beatiful but I'm pretty sure I got a bitten by bed bugs. That was upsetting.

The air conditioner was extremely loud, should have been serviced and the cleaning staff would have noticed it.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 6 of 59Old Old Old
This is a VERY old hotel that is in major need of renovation. The location was good for what we wanted, which was the beach for the air and water show and Hugo's Frog Bar. They were all within walking distance. So it was just ok but think will try somewhere else next year.

Trip Type: Overnight Stay Review 7 of 59not great, but ok.
The front desk was very friendly, and the bed and towels were soft and comfortable. The carpet was a little icky, and the tv was tiny and fuzzy. Pluses and minuses.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 8 of 59Dirty stained room...
The room did not cost much, and it showed. I thought I was getting a good deal at a nice hotel, and while the lobby and public areas of the hotel that I saw were VERY nice, the room had large stains on the carpet, and it had a view of the fire escape and a wall. The bathroom door didn't latch, and the shower was dirty. I wouldn't go back again. I stayed at the downtown Holiday Inn the next two nights and found the room to be MUCH nicer. (and cost lots less)

While the surrounding areas were great, the staff friendly and the common areas decent, I found that our actual room was deplorable. The carpets were filthy, the bathroom was out of date and the bathtub looked "dingy". The top linens on the bed were old and the shades and sheers on the windows were ripped and torn. The hotel had no modern amenities and the hallways were hot! I realize that this hotel is considered "vintage" but the charm is long gone. The convenient location is the main attraction. I would not stay there again until they had an "overhaul" on everything.

Trip Type: Business Review 10 of 59Overpriced and Snobby
For the price paid, the hotel was not as nice as I expected. There is a hotel closer to Michigan Avenue with better service. The staff was not at all helpful.

The pictures look fancy, but this hotel is way passed its prime. No fan in the bathroom, not enough counter space, the only clock in the room was a stereo clock that was very dim and the air conditioner is very loud. Staff was stuck up and only responded to older people who looked wealthy. I can usually tolerate scratchy towels, but these towels were painful. I would not recommend this hotel to a younger crowd or women who like to get ready in the bathroom. If you're really interested in this hotel, it's better to stay somewhere else and visit the hotel's restaurant, The Pump Room. Tasty and the only staff in the hotel that was polite.

Trip Type: Not Provided Review 12 of 59I expected more
Room was small; bathroom was small; and strangly enough, they dont use contour bottom sheets. The sheet came off during the night, as well as the mattress pad.

Trip Type: Business Review 14 of 59Poor room for the money
I thought I'd found a neighborhood class act. Wrong. Room was small and cramped. It was practically impossible to walk between the bed and the credenza. THe TV was old and maybe 19". There was a corner where a table was clearly missing. The only other work surface, the "desk" was narrow and covered with snack items for sale. Felt like a convenience store. The mini-bar was not a refrigerator, just a locking cabinet. Ice machines only on 2 of 17 floors. Save some money and park in the lot actross the street. You never get a second chance to make a first impression.
