Trip Type: Family Review 1 of 7problems with the hotel
The hotel itself was charming but the service left a great deal to be desired. The elevator did not work the entire time we were there. We were on the fourth floor (American fifth floor). We were constantly promised that the elevator would be fixed by the next day, but it didn't happen.(when we checked out, we were told that it would take a week after our departure to fix the elevator). We were also told by the manager that we would either be moved to a lower floor or another property which didn't happen either. We woke late on our first morning with no electricity and then the fire alarm went off. I peeked around the corner outside our door to see a number of men in suits and a fireman holding a test of the fire alarm. We received no notice of the test and were naturally concerned when the alarm went off. We requested wake up alarms which never, ever came, extra pillows and towels which were never delivered, and on the last night got a light bulb for one of the lamps which had none. The desk man also mistakenly failed to put my bag in the storage room, taking another identical bag instead. Fortunately we discovered the problem before we left for the airport. The only remedy offered for our problems was a free breakfast, one free night to be used within a year and the elimination of the city tax which we weren't supposed to have paid in the first place. The bathroom had mold in it and despite pointing it out nothing was done. Absent these problems, I would go back as the neighborhood was very good, convenient and scenic. The hotel's bad management (at least at the front desk) has caused problems for us, they never noted our concerns or fixed them, and climbing four/five flights of stairs multiple times a day was difficult due to our health problems. The failure to take care of the problems caused by the elevator and lack of response by the front desk makes me hesitant to recommend the hotel, as prior reviews have also mentioned problems with the elevators which

Trip Type: Family Review 2 of 7Not a 4 Star
It does seem that the rating system in Europe is flawed compared to what we expect in the US. This hotel is tired. Worn twin beds pushed together, ratty carpet, dryrot all around the shower, etc. The staff was very helpful and pleasant. They recommended Chez PaPa - a must for a local hangout with exceptional inexpensive (relative) chow. Location was reasonable as the subway is about 3 blocks away.

Trip Type: Family Review 3 of 7Needs Extreme Improvement In All Areas
This hotel was listed as a 4 star hotel. It was far from that. The customer service was absolutely horrible. When we booked our reservation, it said breakfast was included. However, when we checked out, they charged us 18 Euros per person and per day! (18 euros = $27!) When we went to breakfast each morning, they never told us we were going to be charged for it. The room was extremely small. But there was a balcony which had a really nice view of the city. The quality of the room was much lower 4 stars. Cheap TV, bed etc. The majority of the staff was rude. They definitely need to improve their customer service. I did not feel welcomed the entire time I stayed there. The location was in a safe area. But it was at least 6 - 8 subway stops away from the main attractions (i.e. Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, etc.) That was a bit far. But there were a lot of nice restaurants and bars within walking distance. Overall, I would never stay at this hotel again and would NOT recommend it to anyone.

Trip Type: Not Provided Review 4 of 7Uncomfortable bed and a stuffy room
While the location was convenient - being close to a metro stop as well as the wonderful market on rue daguerre - the actual hotel was very uncomfortable. The two major problems were the bed as well as the fact that there was no air conditioning and poor air circulation in general. On a positive note the staff was overall very helpful. We wouldn't stay there again.

Trip Type: Business Review 5 of 7overpriced for the space
Hotel is in a good location, is well kept, and the staff are very pleasant. However, the rooms are so cramped that it is uncomfortable.

Trip Type: Romance Review 6 of 7Buyer beware
The hotel tried to cheat us, by putting us in a standard room instead of the superior we had already pre-paid for. We made them switch us when we realized what they had done from the rate card on the door. Some of the staff was rude, and many requests that would be considered second nature at any 3 star hotel were denied or they had no one to take care of the request. The lacking service included: ==> when they did not have a room ready, after check in time, they refused to take our checked luggage up to the room ==> when a curtain rod came off the fixture they told us they had no maintainence staff to correct it "until sometime tommorrow" ==> they wouldn't accept a request for extra towels ==> they couldn't recommend a restaurant and had no concierge staff at all ==> They also stored our luggage and that of many other travelers stacked out in the open, unprotected in the lobby around the front desk. Room service was closed "for a few months for renovations", but we hadn't been notified of this and amazingly they had not made any arrangement with the local cafes and restaurants for delivery service I will say the hotel is in a nice nieghborhood, with many services, cafes, shops, and has very easy metro access. The rooms are nicely decorated.

Trip Type: Romance Review 7 of 7Needs Improvement
For just being "re-done" there was quite a bit of wear and tear in the room itself. The room was also very small. The air conditioning did not work. Some of the surrounding streets are cute, but just a block away there are some unsavory sex shops. For just a little more money, I suggest staying at a hotel that is rated higher.
