Trip Type: Family Review 2 of 22OK hotel for the money for Paris
My wife and I (mature couple) stayed 3 nights at this quiet hotel. Our room, on the first floor, had 2 single beds joint at the base, it was clean but small (~ 2.5 x 3 m) and crowded with furniture which made moving around difficult for 2 people. Bathroom (~ 2 x 2 m) was clean and had a large window with flimsy sheers, which overlooked to a sort of courtyard and other buildings, such that when you went to toilet, you had the feeling of exposing yourself to passers-by (thankfully not to many). The room price did not include breakfast, which was expensive, almost 3 times the cost of the cafés behind the hotel. The location was convenient for us, about 3 metro stations from St-Michel and one direct RER ride from the CGD Airport. In short, it is a good value for the money for Paris and for short stays.

Trip Type: Business Review 4 of 22Very good hotel with a temporary but vexing problem
This hotel was excellent in all regards but one. Great rooms, very helpful staff, good if not great location. Extremely convenient if one planned to take the ORLYBUS to/from Orly airport or the RER train to/from Charles DeGaule airport. All in all an excellent stay. The only blot was that the lift did not work and the repair service said that they would not be able to fix it for several days (until after I left. I had to walk up 6 flights of stairs to my very nice room. Not fun even though I am reasonably fit Lifts do break and I assume that it will be fixed by now and stay fixed. However I expect a hotel (especially one of this quality to have a contract with their elevator service for expedited repair which they clearly did not. Assuming that the lift was fixed I would stay here again but the broken lift was a real issue.

Trip Type: Business Review 5 of 22Nice hotel, great location, friendly staff
I lived in Paris for two years and still travel there often. I normally do not review hotels because they are pretty much the same - normally fine. I was actually impressed by the personality of the Hotel Villa Montparnasse: the dark, hard wood walls, the ceramic tile in the bathroom, the fact the the windows open like a real house. It felt very French. The location is perfect - two blocks from the RER Ligne B and very close to every kind of shop/restaurant you need. The staff was very friendly. Oh yes, I was pleased to note that this hotel was listed as a three star, but actually has a four star on the outside plaque near the door.

The hotel rooms are comfortable and well maintained. The staff is very helpful. The hotel is close to subway and many restaurants which is convenient.

Trip Type: Romance Review 7 of 22Good value for the Well Traveled
The price was right for what we got. No frills, but nothing was horribly wrong with the hotel either and I consider myself someone with high expectations. For those looking to do the traditional Paris sight seeing I'd be sure you are familiar and comfortable with the train system. It's very easy to navigate, but we live in Chicago and are used to public transportation; for those not so accustomed I could see how it'd be overwhelming. Montparnasse is a good 20 minute walk to the Seine; with good weather this is a pleasant experience. There are lots of cute shops and restaurants right by the hotel as well; but they aren't all as accustomed to English, so be aware. Bienevenue a Paris!

Trip Type: With Friends Review 8 of 22Nice hotel, poor service
We stayed at this hotel for five nights in a 12-night trip to France. It was by far the cleanest and most comfortable hotel of the three; however, as all hotels in France, the rooms were quite small. Cozy, though. The staff was very friendly upon check-in, but became quite rude to us in the following days. They did not tell us at check-in (or for two days following) that we were required to leave the key at the desk when we left the hotel. When they finally did, two staff members were quite unfriendly about it and continued treated us badly for the remainder of our stay. It was an unpleasant end to an otherwise nice experience, we couldn't wait to get out of there.

Trip Type: Romance Review 9 of 22Room is really small
I guess that this might be a problem with other hotels in paris but this room was really small. Other the the queen bed there was hardly any space to walk or keep you luggage. Unfortunately we had two big suitcases and with them it was hard to go around in the room. BTW: the room I was in was smaller of the two options.

Trip Type: Romance Review 12 of 22Perfect for a long weekend in Paris
This was my 2nd stay in 3 years at the Villa Montparnasse. As I remembered, the hotel was very comfortable and in a fabulous location. The hotel was within walking distance of interesting sites and neighborhoods. Rue Daguerre (which was about a block away) was filled with restaurants, bars, pastry shops, wine stores, and supermarkets. My only complaint is that the hotel is not geared towards non-French speaking travellers, so communication with the front desk was a challenge at times (everyone was VERY pleasant and accomodating -- information just got a little lost in translation). There were no English-language television stations available and I couldn't figure out how to use the in-room telephone to make overseas calls (fortunately, there was a public pay phone a few feet from the hotel, which was easy to use). I would stay here again if the price was right.

Internet access only in lobby, occasionally in room. no iron/ironing boards available. Great location for dining and metro.

You can read all the other reviews to find the details of this hotel's location and other items, but I just wanted to give one point to the positive camp on this property. My partner and I had a fantastic 2-night stay at Villa Montparnasse. We happened to be there during the mid-summer music celebrations, and that was all a suprise to us, but what a great surprise indeed. Staying in this hotel is like staying in a typical Parisian residential neighborhood. This was my first stay in Paris, and being able to open our huge bathroom and bedroom windows to the sounds of live music echoing throughout Montparnasse was incredible. The service was top-notch. We did not run into any problems with the staff. My French is not very good, and they were all happy to speak to me in English. We made an attempt to communicate a little in French and I feel that is always the respectful thing to do when visiting another country. I like my long, hot showers in the morning, so I would have to say my biggest dissappointment was with the bathroom, specifically the bathtub, as others have written. It was next to impossible to take a shower without getting water everywhere in the bathroom, and there was really no way to take a shower without holding the shower head in one hand. Don't bother with the morning buffet. Based on the other reviews here, we saved the 18 euros each and ate at one of the many excellent local brasseries instead. You will pass several on your way to the Metro anyway. You can't beat the location. I'd recommend this hotel to any of my friends and family.

Trip Type: Overnight Stay Review 15 of 22Good room for the value
This hotel was nice. It was in a quiet residential area near the catacombes. The rooms were nice, clean but a little small (but that is to be expected in Paris). We were lucky to have a small balconey with view of the area. The bathroom was a good size. My one complaint would be the shower. It had the hand held shower head which you could attach to make a normal shower head. However, given the way the tub was designed, I needed to lean way over in order to get any good amount of water to rinse off. All in all, the hotel was nice. I would stay there again.
