Inexpensive but better options available

On a recent trip to NY I stayed at 4 hotels. Three of them were lower rate hotels with the bath separate from the room . All were fine including the Americana but I have to say whatever cleaner they are using has an incredibly strong odor. (On the other hand it left no doubt the room had been cleaned!) I'm sorry but the cleaner odor was absolutely overpowering. The bathroom was very clean though (again with the odor). On the whole the hotel had a rather stark, antiseptic feel (tile floors etc.). The rooms were very small but that's to be expected. I felt the other hotels had a much more welcoming atmosphere for the same price. Also the location is on a rather seedy corner (not dangerous though). Not all of the 3 cheaper hotels had elevators but the Americana did which was nice.

No soap in the bathrooms?

Shared baths but no soap left in the bathroom or an air dryer. Staff handed me a stack of soap bars to leave in bathroom if I wanted. Cooling is through a piece of plywood so lots of street noise in the rooms. The rooms were over air freshened. No washrag was provided. Majority of TV stations are fuzz or distorted and remote doesn't work. Plus side includes very affordable and close to other areas. No noise from hotel to room even from bathroom.

Rip Off

This hotel is a rip off. Let em get this to you right now. Shared bathroom with the whole floor, small beds, no carpeting, pper thin walls so that all night all you hear is NY traffic, a staff that barely speaks English and thus makes any kind of bill negotiation or customer service enarly impossible, this place is horrid. The only good thing about it is its location. The parking is ridiculously expensive as well. Overall I'd avoid this place.

Tiny Room

Communal bathroom, and when you stretch your arms out, you can touch both walls. Linoleum floors, and the communla bathroom was not clean. Sheets and towels had more stains then my garage rags!!!

Patrons Beware

The two twin bed room we were in was dirty, small and looked like a remodeled bathroom. The floors were tile, there were random pipes coming out of the walls and there was no room to walk around the beds. The service was awful when we asked for any extra pillow. The TV did not work (most of the channels were fuzzy). You had to pay for internet. Although they advertise parking, this is a huge additional expense...so plan for at least 80 bucks if you plan to spend the night. The shared shower/bathroom was also considerably dirty. The only good thing was that it was close to Time Square. For those people that recommended this hotel, I am not sure what you are used to sleeping in. We would have been better off sleeping in a hostel for the price we paid.

Americana In

Nice people, great location for the Times Square area. Through no fault of the Hotel, Hotels.com reserved a standard room that was not available when I got there. I had to settle for a very small single room. I did not like the strong incence/perfume odor they use to (spotlessly) clean the place. The bed headboard was moved up to the air conditioner, which squealed loudly all night. The air conditioner also prevented me from drawing the shades shut, so my choice was to be private or to sweat.

Disgustingly Dirty

For NYC this was to be reasonably price place to stay. It needs to be cleaned. Sheets, blanket, bedspreads, stained and stink. I leave it to your imagination what these stains look like, yuk! Smelly dirty flat pillows. I really wondered if they forgot to changed the sheets before we came.

Not clearly stated: shared bathrooms!

Maybe we had not read the hotel's description well or it was hidden. We were not expecting to "share" the bathroom. This came as a not so happy surprise. Besides this mishap, the location was good and the room was clean.

"Needs Improvement"

I did not like sharing a bathroom with the rest of the floor. I also did not like the temperature of the hot water in the bathroom. I could not take my son a shower because it was to cold. It was painful taking a cold shower in the middle of winter!!

Clean in room. That's it.

Reminded me of those honeycomb lockers for humans they have in Japan. Tiny room, sink was less than a foot away from the bed. Plasma screen was the size of my monitor. no dresser. 1 nightstand. Bathrooms are shared. Mine smelled bad. No washcloths. No internet unless paid for. No ice. No coffee. No nada.

Needs Improvement, not worth the money

Bath rooms are common, need cleaning more often.
