I booked three nights at the Hotel Cantlie because of the size of the rooms for the price. We had an executive suite which consist of a seperate bedroom and living room/kitchen. The reason for having a lot of room for the money is because the hotel is pretty run down but if you overlook that it's a pretty good deal. We had to leave a day early but the manager would not refund our money even though we tried to cancel a Saturday night resveration on a Friday morning. This is pretty sleazy and keep that in mind when booking. Oh, and the parking is not included and the breakfast is your typical motel food for a lot of money.

Suite smelled of garlic

It was overpowering & the hotel would not move us to a different suite. They brought in an air freshner machine which required us to leave the room for over an hour at night & it still did not make much difference

Hotel itself was fine service was awful

Needs improvement on customer service

It was our first time traveling to the French-speaking province. We were told that people were different there. I guess we just did to think that they would be so different at this hotel, which seems to be a very international place. We heard their guests speaking Russian, Spanish and perhaps Arabic. During check-in a very pleasant receptionist would mispronounce our last name. I corrected her once thinking that it might be an honest mistake. She would mispronounce it again. I corrected her the second time and guest what? She would say it incorrectly the third time. Looked like she was just teasing us. Another time we asked a different receptionist for a good place to eat. She directed us to a street 30 minutes (walking) away from the hotel. It turns to be a very unattractive and dirty part of the city with a huge variety of “adult” stores and “adult” show. Our 8 y.o. had a lot of “fun” window shopping. We tried out faith the “last” third time. I saw a very attractive part of Montreal in the magazine and asked a receptionist where it might be. He told us that it was the French part of the town and explained how to get there. When we got there of cause it did not look like anything we were looking for (surprise-surprise). We just wasted 2 hours of our time which is a lot when you have only 2 days. After all that we gave up asking anything at the reception. PS If you do not speak French do your homework yourself.

Needs improvement

Hotel looks and feels old and tired. Sense of decor is very dated. Checking in was crazy with way too many people for the desk to handle and for the reception area to hold. There was a wait for the extremely slow elevators. The bed was not made when we got to our room. Drains in bathrooms were slow. Must say the staff were commendably responsive when we called their attention. Location was excellent. Considering the number of other hotels in the area, I will stay elsewhere next time.

hotel in need of updating

Hotel is in a very good location. While they try to really keep the rooms clean, the decor and everything about the hotel is a little dated and in serious need of updating. Our first assigned room, a king with sofa was very musty and smelly but we were reassigned a different room when we went back to the front desk and the staff were good about it. Second room was much better but we ended up getting a two queen room which less roomy. The quality of room service food left a lot to be desired. One good thing though is the staff who are nice and helpful.

Needs Improvement and Make-Over

The hotel is old and outdated. There are many cracks and chips in furnitures and fixtures. Although we stayed in a suite with kitchen and dining table, we could not be comfortable in using or touching any of the appliances because it feels filthy and dirty. The bathroom has no ventilation. The matress is sunken in the middle and very uncomfortable. The cartpet is old and dirty. There is parking and wireless internet (very weak signal) with additional charges. Half of the staff are friendly. Within the same neighborhood, there are many other choices for similar price range. I would not recommend to any of my friends and families.

When we checked in we needed a HC room and they managed to upcharge us to get one. Then it was so smoke satiated they had to send machinery to ozinate the room. Helped a little but still a smoke-smelling room.

Old & Under-Maintained

We stayed in a suite for 2 nights. The location is great. The service is average. Parking is $22 after tax per night. They have a "no-party policy after 11PM" to prevent noise disturbing others, but they have loud music playing until 2AM on Saturday Night from the club on ground floor. Even with all windows closed from 5th floor, you still can hear the music clearly. The rooms definitely need major renovation and updates. The carpet must have been over 15 years old without changing and so is the sofa. The kitchen applicances are really outdated as well. You will find many chips on cracks on furnitures & fixtures throughout the room. It really gives you a feeling of dirty and filthy. The mattress isn't comfortable also due to age. There are plenty other ones in the same neighborhood for the same price range and more recently built. I would not recommend this to anyone I care for.

Selective Customer Service

I traveled with my team, and we selected Hotel Le Cantlie becuase of the suites, the price, and the venue where we were playing our game was about 2-3 miles away. The hotel is in proximity to Crescent St, so it appeared that assumptions were made that we were there to party (amusing since we're a team of adult women ranging in ages but most of us are around 30). When checking in, we had extra people to put in rooms that were already reserved, and the front desk was extremely rude about the extra charges (& these charges varied from $25 per person a night to $125 to add a person to another room). We had some really great service at times, but it actually became a joke with us as to whether they would make some snide remark or be friendly. It's a clean and comfortable money for the hotel, but everything costs extra (more than 2 people, parking, internet), so you might find something a little more consistently friendly without all the add-on charges.

Needs better housekeeping services

Room was not clean nor fresh when checked in. Housekeeper only did our bed, gave bath towers but did not clean our room, left trash and bath stub, sink untouched. We had a Coffe maker in our room but no coffee, cream,...

Be prepared for surprises

We had a reservation for a one queen bed room; we were given a two queen bed room, totally uncomfortable, the beds occupy the whole room. When we asked for what we reserved, the front desk guy said they're out of one queen bed rooms, but we could have a king bed room for an extra $30/night. Well, excuse me, but for $30 more we could have stayed at Omni, which is two classes above Le Cantlie... Besides it makes you wonder why do these guys take reservations if they don't honor them?! Anyway, this stay was unpleasant. We stayed at Le Cantlie before, and it was reasonable. Not this time. The front desk people were indifferent at best, housekeeping was lacking (we found hair in the bathtub, the soap and shampoo were not replenished), the parking guy clearly wanted to be some other place. I think Le Cantlie doesn't really care about the off-season. Bottom line, I don't think I'll be back here (unless they drop the price to $60/night, which would be in line with the kind of service we got).

The hotel needs an update, it has a very dated appearance. The separated sleeping quarters are a great idea. Okay for the money

Needs a moderization update

The sitting area where the TV was located was separated from the bed area and one could not view the TV from the bed. The TV was very old and the picture quality was poor. The up keep of the bathroom wallpaper was poor and the wall paper was fall off. The shower head was very old and did not disperse the water evenly.

Lub, Lub, Lub, Lub, Lub, Thunk!!!

From the outside, this is a pleasant looking hotel. However, I did not like my stay here for two reasons. First, there is poor sound insulation from the street noise. Second, each room has an individual air conditioning compressor, and on my last night there one of the adjacent rooms had their's running all night long. Every five minutes it would come on and I'd hear Lub, Lub, Lub, Lub, Lub, Thunk!!! Then five minutes of silence. Then Lub, Lub, Lub, Lub, Lub, Thunk!!! Etc. All night long. I couldn't sleep at all with the noise, even though I was equipped with industrial strength ear plugs. I won't go back there again, at least in the summer.
