Trip Type: Romance Review 1 of 27Great Room for the Money
I was pleasently surprised by this quaint little hotel tucked in downtown DC in the heart of the city. It was used for a romantic get-away and it was just perfect.! I loved it. I will use it again.

Trip Type: Romance Review 2 of 27Missed a few of the perks I look for in a Kimpton
Loved the decor, as usual. Location is a block off Dupont Circle, which is also great. Afternoon reception is a bit different from other Kimptons in that there is a small table with 2 very nice types of Sangria, and a very small amount of delicious snacks are served a few at a time. In other words, a bit awkward because there would be more folks there than there was food, and most of us were quite interested in the yummy stuff. Just a couple of other let downs, not to sound like Debbie Downer, but ... No morning paper even for Kimpton In Touch members; only one robe in our room which disappeared on day 2 of our 3 day stay; and a night staff (when we arrived) who were a little iffy -- one super nice guy who didn't appear to know as much about the area, hotel, etc., as the guy he had to ask, who was anything but friendly. Again, one of the reasons we love staying at Kimptons is because the staff is usually very helpful. Oh, other up sides though -- free parking if you're driving a hybrid, which we were, and free Internet. I'd still recommend you give this hotel a shot despite a couple of short falls. Also, it's right by the Tabard Inn -- and they have a great restaurant and bar there.

Trip Type: Romance Review 5 of 27Outstanding boutique hotel
It was definitely worth the stay. Close to some interesting restaurants and sights, as well as located on a quiet street in a busy city - an unusual combination. Very friendly staff, making for a great atmosphere. Lots of hotels in D.C. have attitude, but this one had a great attitude - the right attitude! We've already recommended the hotel to firends, and plan on visitingthere again

Trip Type: Romance Review 6 of 27Nice, chic, quiet hotel!
The hotel was great for us. We stayed one night for leisure, and found the room to be nice, clean, and comfortable. It was a 5 min. walk from a metro, and in a very quiet area.

Trip Type: Romance Review 7 of 27Great hotel for the $ - only a couple of issues
My husband and I spent the weekend for our 16th wedding anniversary. The hotel was very clean and quiet. The staff was professional and helpful. There were only 2 issues: a. the room didn't have any cold water, only very warm and hot; b. the bath products were not freely distributed (we only received one bar of soap, one shampoo, and one conditioner) during our entire stay. We would consider staying there again.

I stayed at Topaz for two nights, and my girlfriend and I enjoyed it immensely. It is a small boutique hotel that is modernized and clean. Very close to restaurants and Starbucks!! Staff is helpful also.

Trip Type: Romance Review 12 of 27Nice Interior
Great contemporary feel inside the room. The only complain is they don't have extra pillows given the size of the hotel. My wife needed the extra pillows since she is pregnant.

The Decor was just simply fabulous! I need that interior decorator for my home! I was intrigued with all the beautiful accents and colors in the room. I would have never guessed how cute the rooms were going to be! It was located right near Washington Hotspots Clubs and Restaurants. Definitely, enough too do while visiting! I totally recommend this hotel for some shut eye or simply just looking around your room!

Trip Type: Romance Review 15 of 27Nice Rooms - Nice Neighborhood - Nice Price
The rooms at Topaz are comfortable and spacious with unique and somewhat kooky decor. I honestly don't really understand the "theme" of the hotel's decor (bright colors, jungle prints, etc.) but it's not overwhelming and remains easy on the eyes. The service is great, which is no surprise for a Kimpton, and the location is fantastic. The hotel is on a quiet street, but still one block from the bars, restaurants, and shopping of Dupont Circle. It's on the southeast side of the circle so it's also easily walkable to downtown. The Dupont metro stop is about two to three blocks away. The only detractor for this hotel is the lack of common area space. If you are looking for a hoppin' hotel bar like the other Kimptons in the area, you won't find it here. The restaurant is pretty small and doesn't serve a hot breakfast. If you consider the comparatively low rate with the comfort of the rooms and the location, this is a value buy.
