Trip Type: Business Review 2 of 34Things seem scaled down
I believe my first surprise was that they are no longer using Aveda products. It's no big deal, just a surprise. The hotel doesn't seem as well maintained as it was my last visit. There was a patch of wall paper in the restroom that had been cut out and then pasted back on. The pillows were uncomfortable. And just a suggestion, if you want people to actually use the minibar, put a list of prices for the items inside. One night I was so tempted to eat something, but without a price list I couldn't risk it. I will also say the staff working at the Topaz front desk during this visit weren't very personable. Everyone seemed sedated and quiet. I'm used to Kimpton staff being warm and engaging.

Trip Type: Business Review 3 of 34Terrific small hotel!
I love the Topaz for several reasons-- it has a great location convenient to Dupont Circle, Conn Ave as well as other locations. While there is no official restaurant, the hotel serves food and has a great menu. And the staff just aim to please, in so many different ways.

Trip Type: Business Review 4 of 34Disappointing
Asked for a room with bike. A/C not working and had to be moved to another room with treadmill. A/C in that room quit during the night and they had to get engineering to evaluate it. Finally worked. Elevators were slow. But, the rooms were very spacious and the location was great.

Trip Type: Business Review 5 of 34Not a business hotel but a decent stay for infrequent travelers
The Topaz is not like most Kimpton hotels, of which I have been to several dozen. Though the room condition and cleanliness was satisfactory, the overall condition of the hotel was pretty drab. Furthermore, the sheets and towels were smelled strongly of bleach, which did not cover up the musty smell of the hallways and room. Overall, it is in a good location right outside Dupont. That said, there are many much more comfortable B&Bs in the area for around $100 a night.

Trip Type: Business Review 6 of 34Loved it!
I had a conference at the Washington Convention Center, but they only recommended the "stuffy" hotels near the Convention Center which were expensive and not in a very fun area. Topaz was a perfect location for us - around the corner from the Dupont Metro stop so i could take the Metro to the convention center or take a nice walk (about 25 minutes). We had a very large room with a seperate sitting area that was great to relax in, a nice quiet stay with attentive staff and everything we needed, all for much less than the hotels the conference recommended. The decor was very fun and gave a great funky feel appropriate to the Dupont Circle area. The building is right amongst the cute row houses in a quiet street off Dupont Circle.

Trip Type: Business Review 7 of 34Great Location needs work
The hotel is very conveniently located to the dupont circle area and downtown business district. The staff is courteous and the room was spacious. However, the wall paper in the room was torn, upholstery was worn and the bedding was showing it's age. There are numerous restaurants in the area to have dinner and the lobby bar was full both evenings. Not for those looking to tour the Mall or sightseeing in DC. Other hotels are closer to those areas.

Trip Type: Business Review 8 of 34I'll stay there again
It's a great hotel. I had everything I needed... easy access off of Connecticut at Dupont Circle... great room... a lot of things are within walking distance... the only draw back would be that the wireless internet service was a little sketchy (maybe because my room was on the 10th floor which is the top floor) but other than than, a great experience. I will definitely stay there again.

Trip Type: Business Review 9 of 34Wow
What a great hotel. I travel for business so I stay in hotels often. I have to say this hotel is a great "breath of fresh air!" What fabulous decor! This hotel is not cookie-cutter and I appreciated that. Parking in D.C. is difficult and expensive no matter where you are. So if you are not accustomed to this you might be frustrated. The locate was perfect. Shopping was only a couple blocks away and the sites are close as well. Staff was friendly, especially the valet, my husband and I thought he was fantastic. Coffee was complimentary in the lobby every morning so the lack of coffee maker in the room was okay.

Trip Type: Business Review 11 of 34Outstanding Hotel and Location
As far as deals go, this was a true jewel. I travel to various large cities on a regular basis and was amazed at the space in my room, the decor, and the location in the city. The National Mall was a quick 15 min walk away, shopping was right around the corner, as were the night life. I will gladly stay in this hotel again.

Trip Type: Business Review 13 of 34The Topaz Hotel Goes to a New Level in Customer Care
What I found most enjoyable about the Topaz Hotel was its emphasis on a non-stress experience. All guests could access a yoga channel on their TV sets, and the hotel provided at no charge yoga equipment. Also, there was a channel on relaxing music and/or sounds. Guests could avail themselves of in-room spa services (at a cost, of course). The decor in the Topaz Hotel was chic and funky--certainly different than what I have seen in other hotels. The hotel provided a lot of extra amenities at no charge.

Trip Type: Business Review 15 of 34Showing Its Age
The Topaz hotel was probably a very cool hotel in its day but it is definitely showing its age. I was really surprised being that it is a Kimpton and those are usually outstanding properties. The room was clean but not very comfortable.
