Great location but the rooms are outdated and could use some modernization.

Tired and worn hotel, with old, noisy rooms and tired and a bit surly staff in the absolute best location in the city.

The hotel is located in the middle of the Gothic area and if you are there to visit museums, architecture, it is perfect. And shopping since you are just a few minutes from Las Ramblas. Good restaurants are also close. The staff was as good as any European or US hotel I have stayed at. With the shrinking value of the dollar overseas the rate is a bit high, but that was the case everywhere. While the hotel is located on busy roads and noisy court in front the room was amazingly quiet. I would definitely return to this hotel when going to Barcelona. One note for anyone going to Barcelona, regardless of hotel, keep your wallet secure. What that means to everyone might be different but the pick pockets are everywhere. The hotel told about them. When we were in Tarragon for a couple days they told us of them there also. In fact they said they normally had at least one person a week loose a wallet or purse. When getting on the train people "heard" into the train and are tightly packed. I had a pick pocket with his hand in my front pocket trying to pull out my wallet. A loud "what are you doing" and having my hand on the outside prevented a disaster. You have been warned.

Trip Type: Romance Review 5 of 5Great Location
My fiance and I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights and we enjoyed our stay. The hotel is minimal with amenities, but the location was *key* for being in Barcelona only 2 days because it was central to everything. First day there we were able to sit at the restaurant out front and watch the Sardana dances then move on to see Gaugin's works north of the Church. I would recommend a stay here if you aren't needing concierge and other touristy services. The staff was cordial, but did not have a plethora of information, nor did they seem to offer it. The staff were older and so were most of the persons staying in the hotel, so maybe there was just an age gap. Overall, I would recommend this hotel.
