Trip Type: Business Review 1 of 67Great room - Great Location
Small little hotel among the larger hotels around the San Jose Convention Center. Located across from San Paseo Light Rail station makes it easy to take mass transit to and from the airport. Rooms are smaller than the standard room, but they are comfortable and cozy; thus the closet was simply a wardrobe. The bathroom was a normal size. Staff was very friendly. Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel.

Trip Type: Business Review 2 of 67Good hotel, convenient location
Did not experience the noise levels suggested by some reviews, however I was traveling for business sun-thurs night. Very convenient for conventions. Free internet was a plus.

Trip Type: Business Review 3 of 67Needs upgrading
The hotel needs to be redecorated or upgraded. No ambience whatsoever. The room was well priced and comfortable. Bathroom is too close to bed and bath towels need to be upgraded. The reception staff were friendly and helpful. All other staff were unprofessional. Lively bar.

Trip Type: Business Review 4 of 674 Stars. Huh?
I don't get it. How does this hotel rate 4 stars? I mean, things were generally okay as far as you would expect from a dark, dumpy little downtown hotel. The staff was just there to do their job and not all that convincing that they cared much whether they had guests or not. It would have been a good 2 star hotel. Maybe. It's okay for the price which was low.

Trip Type: Business Review 5 of 67Quiet Nice Room in Great Location
Hotel Montgomery provided a substantially cheaper and very comfortable room for my conference at the Doubletree half a block away. Staff was helpful (good directions, made 20 free copies for me when I was pressed for time, friendly). The nightclub that was referenced in earlier reviews as causing problems is no longer functioning and it was quiet. Parking is $20/day; particularly if you are in on weekends there are City garages within a block or so which are cheaper. I'll check rates here before booking my next downtown San Jose stay.

Trip Type: Business Review 6 of 67Great Price High Standards Free
Talk about a great hotel close to the downtown convention center. While the hotel was about one block away from the hotel, the walk was well worth the price (about ½ to 1/3 the cost of the chain competitors adjacent to the convention center). Staff was great and easy to work with and the daily room care was above standard. Room use and layout was great with much of the space used but not cluttered. For example the desk space was useful for a laptop computer and the Wi-Fi was free! (It’s sad I have to pay at other hotels for internet access). I’ve stayed at some lower end local hotels as well as some upscale chain hotels and this hotel out ranks them all. Lower price doesn’t equal poor quality and service in this case.

Trip Type: Business Review 8 of 67Perfect Hotel
Attended a conference at the convention center in downtown San Jose. This hotel was 1 block away, and was half the cost of the other hotels in the area. The hotel is small, but quaint and very nicely appointed. It is full of modern furnishings but the building architecture is very traditional, makes for an interesting mix of new vs old. I stayed with a group and each of our rooms had the furniture arranged a little differently and were a slightly different size, but all were appointed similarly. The iPod docking alarm clocks are a nice touch, as is the free wireless and wired internet. Each room also has the usual minibar, ironing board/iron, in-room safe and hair dryer. All of the staff were great and very friendly. The front desk staff were always willing to offer recommendations for local places or directions. I met the maids once in the hall and they smiled and asked how our stay way going. Our waitress at the restaurant/bar remembered our drink orders from the night before and the manager also remembered our group and said hello. Overall the staff is willing to go the extra mile, but they don't have the same polished service that the big hotels do. I enjoy the more personal service, but I guess that's different for everyone.

Breakfast options were very less and it seemed overly priced.

Trip Type: Business Review 12 of 67Much more than I expected
I expected a decent hotel for the price in a so-so part of town, but was pleasantly surprised by the high quality of the entire hotel, especially the room. And the neighborhood was full of quality bars and restaurants. I "re-discovered" San Jose and will stay here next time whether on business or pleasure.

Trip Type: Business Review 13 of 67Lovely Overall Experience
The historic Hotel Montgomery was a wonderful landing spot for us during a hectic business trip. The rooms are clean and well appointed, the beds are comfy, wireless internet is free (parking is expensive, though - that was a bit of a downer), the lounge is trendy and serves great cocktails and snacks, and the hotel is centrally located and close to everything we needed. I would certainly recommend it for business or pleasure stays and would stay here again myself if the need arose.

Trip Type: Business Review 14 of 67Nice Boutique Hotel in Boring Downtown San Jose
This is a nice little boutique hotel that is sadly located in downtown San Jose. The city has tried for years to create a real urban center in San Jose, to no avail. Unless there's a specific event taking place -- a concert, SJ's summer jazz festival, downtown is fairly deserted and the lack of action is reflected in the hotel's quiet bar. But as the hotel goes it is very nice, and in a quiet location a few blocks from the other big hotels, some decent restaurants and government offices, if you do business with the state.

Trip Type: Business Review 15 of 67Lovely boutique hotel in the mdst of conventon center row
Only four floors in this wonderful hotel and walking distance to convention center, food and museums. Rooms are updatedyet feel very European. Beats te standard convention hotels and the rates were great.
