It's Fine

I stayed here when basically all my other options were unavailable. It was fine. The location is good if you're doing things near Dupont Circle, but it's not as convenient to downtown.

Loved it!

The hotel was super. Management was really on top of everything. Staff was kind. The rooms were retro, spacey, and comfortable. The only thing my wife didn't like was the lack of a tub.

Great hotel and good price too

I took my family with me on a business trip, 2 small children and my husband. We had a great time. We had a corner room that gave us LOTS of space and the kitchen was great. Would have liked a small kitchen table for eating, but we used the coffee table. The room was clean, modern, and up kept. The neighbor was wonderful and fun and there is a lot of restaurants within walking distance. It was a little far from the convention center, where I needed to be, but everything else, the price, neighborhood, and room made up for that. I will definitely go to this hotel again.

Great DC neighborhood

A very quiet, residential neighborhood with lots of restaurant and shooping options within walking distance. More for the business traveler than families on the DC tour trip.

Stayed one night on business trip. Manager recommended perfect dining and provided sound advice about neighborhood. Cute decor.

The Carlyle Suites Hotel

I loved having a kitchen in my room. The only problem was, I needed high speed internet which I did not get in my room. I would stay here again but would specify that I need facing the street, and not the buildings in the back.

wonderful hotel

I stayed in this hotel for business. It was clean, comfortable, and much more fun to look at and stay in than chain hotels. I really enjoyed the art deco history and details of the hotel. It was not fancy in a snobby way, but very stylish and felt European. The staff at the desk were friendly and helpful. The room was extremely clean and large, with a very comfortable bed. The walls are thin, but I am used to that in every hotel and I bring ear plugs. The neighborhood is fantastic, and the free parking at the hotel is a great value. I walked to excellent restaurants and shops. The hotel has use of a neighborhood gym, which is good because it's a real gym - larger than one workout room in a hotel, but it is a 12-15 minute walk away.

A very comfortable visit!

For my two-night stay, this hotel was exceptional. (I had read the hotels.com reviews, and so I was not unprepared for things like needing my own ethernet cord or the lack of absolute climate control: I was lucky that the weather was very cool at night, and because I knew to ask for a room with openable windows, and by turning off the heat completely and opening the windows, I was able to get the room cold enough for me to sleep comfortably; the building is old if well refurbished and you either have heat or air-conditioning in the room depending on the time of year.) The restaurant and room service is very good and very reasonably priced. The mattresses are tempur-pedics and very comfortable. The linens were pristine. The staff was friendly and helpful. (Again, because I had read the previews, I knew about the parking situation of a free but very small and very tight lot at the rear.) The neighborhood is great. Walk over to 17th Street and toward Dupton Circle on 17th rather than New Hampshire for lots of reasonable and very good restaurants, or fast food (there's a McD's), and even a grocery store (useful since the hotel has kitchenettes with dishes and pans, etc.). The hotel was very quiet (one of the advantages, perhaps, of an older building?). This was one of the most pleasant hotel stays I have had in recent years. The hotel was great, but I had also done my homework, knew what to expect, and was prepared.

not acceptable for the price

There was fresh paint on most of the doors in my hallway. I consider this unacceptable while guests are staying in adjacent rooms. Also, the wireless did not work but I got a cable to use the T1 connection.
