The Whitehall Hotel

Wonderful experience

Our stay at the White Hall was excellent from check-in to check-out. Special stars should be given to the staff who were helpful and made wonderful suggestions for our trip. The room was very comfortable with the only drawback being the view (but sheers blocked that). Very convenient location and very quiet. We will definitely book there again our next trip to Chicago.

Nice Hotel - Great Location

We looked for a nicer hotel that is walking distance to our daughter's school. We knew the Whitehall is an easy 10 minute walk to Moody Bible Institute. It also conveniently located about a 5 minute walk from the red line "El" train and is close to Michigan avenue and lots of good shopping and restaurants. The Hotel itself is nice - lobby is comfortable. Our room was a bit on the smaller side but clean and comfortable. The one complaint I would have is the hotel is noisy. We could hear everything going on in the hallway outside and one evening about midnight we heard a constant clanking for about 15 minutes. Then a little before 6 am we heard a different constant clunking for a few minutes. The noisiness did not ruin the trip, but was the one negative versus the many other positives. I would stay there again. Also, a note that they do have a remodel in progress at least in the hallway, but we did not see any work crews and it did not inconvenience us, just a little messier than usual.

Best Location

First visit to downtown Chicago to sightsee. The Whitehall was a great value in the perfect location. Just around the corner from Michigan Avenue at the upper end of the Magnificant Mile. Completely remodeled room was quiet and bedding was luxurious. Staff friendly and helpful. All the best stores nearby. Walked to the Visitor Center in the Old Waterworks Building for 1/2 price theater tickets, free use of computer (Internet), purchase transportation passes. Lots of great brochures. One block to the John Hancock building - went to the lounge at the top for fantastic views of the city and Navy Pier. Parking very expensive - try not to drive your car downtown. One possibility - park at Midway airport and take public transportation in. Will go back to the Whitehall and recommend it to friends.

great hotel for vacation

the Whitehall was in a great location, 1 block off the Magnificent Mile, walking distance to most things required for a tourist. We were pleased with the helpful staff, clean room, great bed. We would recommend this hotel to anyone on a city visit, the area is clean, seemed safe, even late at night, and the hotels.com price was great.

Very Pleasant Stay

My daughter and one year old grand-daughter recently had the pleasure of visiting Chicago. I researched a hotel and found the Whitehall recommended as one of the best mid-range hotels--a small, boutique European style hotel. We were very happy with our visit there. Great location, friendly staff, and nice comfy rooms.

One of the best hotels I have stayed at

The whitehall hotel is one of the very best hotels I have stayed in (in its class). It is conveniently located on Magnificent mile. Very close to a lot of the downtown attractions. I didnt hve to spend on car rental because of that. The hotel is a pretty old property. Lobby had very dusty carpets. You could smell the dust. My first impression was, 'I made a bad decision to stay in this hotel'. That changed soon. But the room was very well maintained. Very clean. Staff is friendly.

Under construction

The hotel has several floors under construction and since it was 95% full there were no alternative rooms. Also ice service requires you to call front desk then wait for someone to bring it up.

Whitehall Hotel

We loved our stay at the Whitehall and have stayed there before and will stay there again! The service, location, and accommodations are all top notch!

Construction noise

The hotel was undergoing construction during our stay. We were told this at the time of arrival. What we weren't told was that the construction was going on in the adjoining room! It is absolutely ridiculous to put people in a room with construction going on next door.

Great Hotel

The hotel staff went above our expectations. Everyone was very friendly and accommodating. When I randomly stopped a housekeeping member in the hall, he graciously gave me the extra towels we needed immediately. Not to mention, the other staff members were great! We did not get the room we requested as some rooms were under construction, but we were given an upgrade at no extra cost - great!
