Trip Type: With Friends Review 1 of 33Not all it's cracked up to be...Girls Weekend was a bust
When I first arrived at Hotel Derek the staff greeted me and answered questions. The bellman assisted with the carts and took them to the room. I expected the room to be more spacious for the money I paid. Also, I was told there was a complimentary luxury shuttle service to hotspots within a 3 mile radius which was true, but I wasn't informed that the service stopped at 11pm. I planned a girls weekend that included dining, dancing, and drinking. We had to forego the drinking when we were forced to drive ourselves to and from the nightclub. Overall the staff was friendly and helpful, but there was nothing that stood out about Hotel Derek. The deal breaker was the room size compared to the cost. I will not be staying there again and I wouldn't recommend it to others.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 3 of 33Great Hotel!
Rented two rooms at this hotel for a bachelorette party. The hotel was strategically located near the Rice Village and surrounding bars. The hotel was clean, hip, and modern. Would recommend this hotel to my friends!

Trip Type: With Friends Review 4 of 33The Ice Palace
The Derek and it's rooms are exceptionally nice -- clean, modern, interesting design details and layout. But the staff could use some work in the customer service department. For the amount of money we spent for our five day stay in Houston, I think we could have received a smile or two, maybe even a Hello from the front desk and lobby staff. Aside from the bellmen and when we asked a direct question, I don't think anyone even made eye contact with us our entire stay. Contrast that to our next stay in Austin at the Doubletree where the staff not only noticed their guests but greeted them and interacted with them and were actually friendly. We were also seriously disappointed with the concierge service. The man at the desk seemed to have pretty limited knowledge of the immediate area and when we asked about public transportation, he couldn't tell us a thing about it, despite the fact that three major bus routes pass directly in front of the hotel. Nor was the Derek's "limo" service ever offered to us, although it's supposedly there for the asking.

I had a problem with receiving my free valet parking and breakfast that was offered through hotels.com. The hotel wouldnt do anything to help although I pulled up the webiste and showed them it was clearly there. I had to call hotels.com 4 times to get things straightened out. It's a nice hotel, I've stayed there multiple times and the attention to detail and location is nice. Price for room, not the best.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 10 of 33Great room for the money
THe hotel was centrally located, near an array of shopping and dinning options. As you arrive you are greeted nicely and there is a welcoming aura. If you like valet this is the place for you, there is only valet parking at the hotel. There are lots of amenities offered and the concierge it handy. The rooms are very comfortable with a art deco feel. Overall great place to stay.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 11 of 33A good value
Convenient location to Galleria Mall and expressway. Sleek, modern feel that reminded me of hotels in Manhattan.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 12 of 33Nice Hotel
Generally a nice hotel. My only complaint is that it is on a busy street with lots of traffic. The traffic can make it difficult to get in and out of the hotel.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 15 of 33Good Room For the Money
I booked 2 rooms on hotels.com for 2 doubles. I check in to the hotel with my other guests and the desk tells me that they only have king rooms available. There were a total of 8 of us checking in, 8 people could not sleep in a total of 2 king beds. He told me that the hotel was completely booked and that was all they had. Needless to say, he came up with 2 double rooms, but they were on different floors. I suppose this was better than the first option. I do not appreciate being lied to and after getting angry they come up with what I had originally booked. Why bother asking when you book what type of bed you would like if they are going to give you a problem with it!!!
