really nice hotel...if I was the owner, I'd be P.O.'d

Hotel was very nice. Clean, contemporary/modern, etc. None of the valet spoke (or wrote) English very well, and was consistently slow. Whenever we called to have valet bring the car up, it was never there when we arrived and thy all acted as if there was no call made. Front desk was froendly, but totally clueless as to the local attractions or conveniences. Hallway noise bled into the room quite a bit. If you're looking for quite, this is not the place. Nice hotel, but probably won't go back.

valet parking only ?

i hated having to pay for valet parking per night and tip those guys for doing so. It is not cheap. the room was OK but I could have stayed in another less expensive hotel and still felt the same.

Nice and modern place to stay, but...

It is a very upscale hotel but the people are a bit stale-- or snotty. Valet is mandatory so its an additional 20 dollars to your stay at the hotel. The pool is not kid friendly at all, its really just for looks. The bedroom is very pretty on the eyes, but the bed isn't as comfy as it looks. If you can, request a pillowtop mattress. Overall, I enjoyed the decor of the place, but I would go back only if I went without my family. It is more for business people or travelors and less for families.

ask about the parking

My family just returned from a ation i houstio at hotel Derek. Upon check out I was informed of almost $100. in valet parking fee. I never asked for valet parking. The hotel staff stated there was no other parking available. We tipped the parking staff Very Good. I would not have given almost $75 in tip If I owuld have know. I feel you should tell your guest about the parking fees tht will be aded to your bill. When I spoke with the manager about this, he was not helpful and refused to lower any of the charges. He acted as though he was the owner of the hotel. I will never stay at hotel Derek ever again. The htoel staff are great. The management could use classes in customer service.

Nice Hotel, lousy parking

The room was clean and nice. We were a bit disappointed that we could not get to our vehicle without having the Vallet bring it around. Having the only way to store your vehicle be Vallet for 20 dollars per day seemed excessive.

Hotel Derek Houston

The Hotel Derek is a nice boutique style hotel. It is located in the suburbs of Houston (that is, not downtown but within 30 minutes of downtown) and has every possible convenience.

"Nice hotel"

The hotel was great. We love the decor and everyone made us feel at home. Very friendly staff. The problem I had was that it was inconvience for us that it was a "valet parking only" and $20.00 each day fee which was not mentioned in the description. Especially when I booked 4 rooms and had 5 cars, that got expensive. We went out alot so getting 5 cars and tipping everytime was adding up very fast. Overall the I would highly recommed this hotel if you're not with a big family.

Great Hotel

This hotel is a very good value. During our weekend stay, the staff was very friendly. The decor is excellent and in line with what one would expect for a boutique hotel. The central location by a freeway and next to the Galleria shopping center is very convenient to get to any part of the City. My only complaint is that access in and out is a bit constricted because of the high traffic on Westheimer Rd in front of the hotel and the tight quarters for the valet drop off area. The full time traffic police though was a huge help in directing traffic in and out. I highly recommend this hotel.

A really nice one-night stay over a weekend

Derek is really nice for a quick, one-night weekend stay in Houston if you're visiting the west end of town. Only con: fluorescent bulb in the bathroom was out. Pro's: comfy bed and pillows, quiet ambience. Suggestion: book a room as high as possible if you want a view. Lower floors overlook a rooftop air conditioner and parking garage on the north side. Strongly recommend the Derek. Second stay there and still quite content. Just pay the valet parking, and give them 20 minutes to retrieve your car before you want to leave, and you'll be fine. Also, always approach the hotel from the east side, so you don't have to cross traffic stacked up at the intersection. Just drive east a little, turn around, and enter it heading westward. It'll work out for you.

Needs Improvement

The Hotel Derek gets a Big "D" for our stay. I think at some point in time this was a nice place. Our room was not the cleanest and it could of used some TLC. Granted we got a nice room rate but the mandatory valet parking @ 20.00 a day adds up fast. I think that if you looking to stay some were close to the "loop" and around the Post Oak area of houston there are better choices.
