Trip Type: Rest and Recreation Review 1 of 80Great Hotel - but don't take room #107
Have stayed at the Strand on four different trips and always very pleased. On this last trip I was given room #107. The street noise was so loud. Trucks going by were the worst. This went on until nearly midnight. Impossible to sleep! Next morning I asked for a different room and was given a very nice quiet room on the 9th floor (an inside room). Staff very understanding. For future visits I will decline any room facing the street that is located below the 4th floor.

Title sums it up. Be aware it is not air conditioned however, so best for fall and winter.

Trip Type: Not Provided Review 5 of 80OASIS OF VALUE
I HAVE STAYED HERE 5 TIMES IN THE LAST 3 YEARS. I ALWAYS CONSIDER IT MY FIRST CHOICE WHEN STAYING IN LONDON BECAUSE OF ITS LOCATION (NEAR THEATRE DISTRICT AND MUSEUMS - HEATHROW ONE HOUR TUBE RIDE FOR 4 POUNDS)IN COMBINATION WITH ITS COST. THE ROOMS ARE ADEQUATE - MODEST SIZE BUT NOT CRAMPED - CLEAN AND COMFORTABLE. ONE STAY I HAD A PROBLEM WHICH WAS IMMEDIATELY HANDLED ( THEY UPGRADED ME ).

Trip Type: Not Provided Review 8 of 80Superb location for the theatre and sighseeing
This was my fifth stay at the hotel. I go to London about twice a year to go to the theatre. The location is wonderful, as I am able to walk to virtually every theatre, and I stay off the overcrowded, problematic public transport system. However, buses and tube stations are nearby if needed. Close to Trafalgar Square, Westminister, etc. Upgraded to a club single, and saw no different between the club and standard room, besides a more contemporary colour scheme and painting. The breakfast was more than adequate, and I never had to wait in line. Numerous restaurants are in the area. After one episode of food poisoning from eating fish during a dinner at Strand Palace (Johnstons Brasserie)and management refusing to remove the charge from the bill, I will not eat anything there besides breakfast. The pass to the Virgin Active gym is nice. Just across the street, and nice pool, sauna, hot tub, etc. Staff was mostly courteous and helpful. The interior rooms are a bit quieter. Only big issue is the stupidity of having only one window in the room open about 5 inches. This is"for health and safety reasons" More government interference for no reason! The small fan provided helped. Also the safe was mounted on the top shelf of the closet with the door opening outward. The only was to access it was by standing on a chair, and feeling around inside the safe, since you couldn't look inside easily, due to the location. Cannot wait to get back to London in a few months and plan to stay again.

I was very happy with my stay, I arrived early and got into my room right away. I was in a single room and was very comfortable. Large bathroom with full tub was a treat. Everything was clean and comfortable. Great Location, walking distance to Theaters and SoHo.

Trip Type: Not Provided Review 11 of 80Great Stay in London
I stayed at The Strand Palace for seven nights and enjoyed every night. The hotel room was suprisingly roomy for a normal hotel room in London (small by American standards but for London it was big.) The location was wonderful; only two blocks from Covent Garden and three blocks from Trafalger Square with Tube stops at both. I faced an inner courtyard so my room was very quiet, however, if I faced the street it might have been a little louder. The Strand neighborhood is wonderful with lots of shops and places to eat at all hours of the day. I recommend this hotel 100%.

The queue to check in was long and slow moving but once that was completed all went well. My room was clean and recently refurbished. Location is brilliant.

Trip Type: Rest and Recreation Review 13 of 80Great Location
I have stayed at this hotel several times and was pleasantly surprised by the recent renovations. Staff was pleasant and helpful. Many rooms are now "Club" (business-class) rooms, which are upgraded (I had hoped for air-conditioning, but a fan was provided in the room). The location can't be beat for attending the theatre! There are several main bus routes directly across from the hotel and it is easy to get everywhere in London, usually on one bus. Covent Garden is nearby, with many good restaurants in the vicinity. I will definitely return to this hotel.

Bed was very small, pillows were hard and uncomfortable. The room was not clean enough. Dust was all around the tv.

Trip Type: Overnight Stay Review 15 of 80Beware of the Extras Here
I paid a great deal of money for 13 minutes checking my email in the Strand Palace's lobby pcs. The posted rate was 25p per minute but was billed $150! It may take me months to unravel this. I find it incredible that in 2009 a hotel is still charging for Internet use and access. If you avoid this "service" you will likely be happy with this hotel. Everything else was very good.
