You reviewers made it sound HORRIBLE! (why?)

I found the hotel to be a little middle of the road. Not fancy, but not a dump. It's at a SUPER convenient location in the french quarter so that helped a lot, however it is a very old building so if that's not your thing then... I didn't have a lot of money to spend, I needed somewhere close to the club I was DJing at, and I don't mind much as long as the sheets are clean (and they were), so this was perfect for me. Definitely will be back.

Central to French Quater

Overall good stay. Good room, but the air conditioning failed to respond to controls. Extra fees for "amenities and parking."

Not for Business Travelers traveling by automobile.

I arrived alone by automobile. There was no place to park while checking in. I had to go to a public parking lot and pay to park while checking in. Then the hotel lot was 2 blocks from the hotel. Not convenient at all. The room had no desk at which to work nor did it have a chest or dresser in which to unpack clothing. I had to literally live out of my luggage. Also the internet did not work. I had to go to a sister hotel a block away to get internet coverage in the lobby there. The room was clean and comfortable but that is all that I can say good about it. BTW, even though I complained about the lack of internet coverage and was told it would be taken off my bill I was still charged for it. I had to again ask for it to be taken off the bill when I checked out.

Would MAYBE recommend...

Interesting that you have to pay an extra service fee that covers wi-fi access, yet sites like myspace or facebook are blocked. As a travelling musician who uses such sites to keep in touch with fans, that was quite lame. Also, no smoking anywhere inside the hotel, yet there were balconies on every floor that were locked. Also lame. Other than that, the rooms were decent (could have used a small fridge and such), the bed was crazy comfortable, the AC was awesome.... I wish I had the option to say "maybe" I'd recommend this hotel. It was "okay" for the price and all the extra fees hotels always gouge people with.

Great location

It's less than a block from Bourbon st. and next to an excellent restaurant. The TV didn't work...but it didn't matter because (see above!) Overall pretty good

Clean hotel

I stayed at the St Ann Marie on a business/pleasure trip to New Orleans, and since I'm on a budget, it was one of the few in the French Quarter that I could afford and wasn't listed as a complete dive. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the hotel was clean and didn't smell like mold, the room was well maintained, except one of my hot water handle in the shower fell off. The staff overall was not very friendly except for the bartender, and the valet (a separate company) was a bit slow with my car. Beware the valet parking, it's $30/day; and at checkout, the slap you with about $12/day in "resort" and "energy" fees that you have to pay upfront. But, it's in a central location, 1/2 block from Bourbon St, and about six blocks from Jackson Square. I will stay there again when I go back to New Orleans.

Great room for the money; Awful Internet connection

Great room for the money. However, for those who need the internet and would rather use it in your rooms, that's not going to happen here. You can only access the internet in the lobby or the bar, which is ridiculous. I work online and would much rather have the internet in my room so I can work confortably.

Awful Service, Terrible Maintenance, Great Location

The building in which this hotel is located could be charming if it were maintained, but it is not. Among the many problems I encountered was that the hot water inexorably turned off as I took my morning showers, no matter what I tried to do to stop this from happening (wrapping washcloths around the hot water knob, etc.). No laundry was provided by the hotel, and the front desk sent me on a wild goose chase looking for one. The attitude of the staff varied from indifference to smoldering hostility toward anyone who might disturb them with a question. A continental breakfast is supposed to be included, but I was charged for picking up the wrong pastry in the morning. There was an unadvertised service charge of about $12/day when I checked out. I stay in hotels about 100 nights per year, and this one was among the worst I have ever encountered. This is unfortunate, because the location in the historic district near much better hotels and fine restaurants is wonderful. The only other redeeming quality of this hotel is that the wireless internet connection worked very well.

Pick Another Hotel

I have stayed in lots of hotels that were old, so I don't feel being old is an excuse. This hotel needs lots of major improvements and staff improvements. Couldn't sleep at all the night we were there. Lots of street noise, lots, all night. The $10 fee turned into close to $30, fee + self parking = a little over $29. Wireless internet, which was in the fee, didn't work. They said, "sometimes it doesn't work you can come down to the lobby and try". Find somewhere else to stay.

No shower curtain. Non working room telephone. Hotel personnel need customer service training.
