Great Stay in DC

This was my third time staying at this hotel and I really enjoy it. The place is clean, the staff is great and they go out of there way to make your stayreat comfortable. They always greet me by name and are happy to accomodate any request I have. Great location too!

Location, Location, Location

Had a wonderful 7 day stay! Went to DC to move my daughter into her dorm at GW and sightsee. Got a great room for a great price! I always try to stay at a Kimpton boutique Hotel. I sometimes travel alone and I like the intimate eclectic feel of a boutique hotel. I feel safe and the staff is always friendly and helpful. (especially Chris and Kevin) The location is just a few short blocks to the Metro and Dupont Circle. Very convenient location to get where you want to go. I flew into Reagan Airport and took the Metro to the hotel! If you need a car, Enterprise is just down the street and you can just return it at the end of the day so you do not have to pay for parking which is $35.00 a day. I bought a DC power pass and was able to walk down the street to catch the bus. I have to admit that the bathroom is small but it fulfilled my needs.

Wonderful experience

Helpful staff, complementary wine, cookies & milk, spacious rooms, big tvs, free internet, close to Dupont Circle - what's not to like! Outstanding hotel.

Very Friendly Staff But Not Much Else

The staff at Madera is very accomodating always available. Our room had sheets and blankets with small blood stains on them. When we contacted the staff they did not have them changed, but the second time they had the sheets and blanket changed right away and gave us free continental breakfast for the duration of our stay along with a bottle of wine and an apology note. The location is good, 15 minute walk to downtown. The room itself was a nice size but the bathroom was way too small. If the hotel was as good as its staff I would definately reccomend it, but I will look somewhere else next time in DC.

Simply fabulous

A friend had recommended staying at a Kimpton Hotel while in DC. Despite traveling a lot, I had never heard of Kimpton Hotels. The Hotel Madera ended up being the one with the best price in the best location. Overall, I was extremely pleased with my 7-night stay. The room was comfortable and well-appointed. The bed was delightful. The maid service was great. True, the toilet/shower area was tiny, but my bathroom at home is also small, so it didn't bother me too much. I loved the afternoon ice cream treats, afternoon wine hour, and Oreos and milk after dinner. Kimpton gets it -- it costs very little for them to make these customer-service gestures, yet the payoff is HUGE in making guests happy. I also loved the location of the hotel. DuPont Circle is a great area, and we were able to find a number of delicious places to eat. The Metro is also a very short walk. Great job, Kimpton. I will go out of my way to stay at your hotels in the future!

Outstanding Hotel

I spent 11 nights at the Hotel Madera; 5 days business and 6 days as a tourist. I found the hotel online and based my decision to stay there on recommendations of various sites and based on cost. It exceeded all of my expectations. When I checked in I was on the 4th floor facing the back, overlooking a trash container. I asked to be moved to a higher room with a nicer view, especially since I was staying 11 nights. The manager walked me to my room, saw the view, and I was given a new room the following morning. The rooms are large. Many reviews complained that the bathroom was too small, and it is smaller than many hotels I've stayed at, but the amount of time I stayed in the bathroom made this a non-issue. So ignore those comments. The room had wireless Internet access and I had no problem connecting. The hotel is within two blocks of the Metro, and there is an excellent coffee shop (one of my first priorities) within 1/2 block of the Metro. There are several coffee shops in the area. Dupont Circle (the park & fountain) is also within two blocks and was very entertaining; street musicians every night and I never saw the same one twice. I am a walker, and easily walked to the White House from the hotel, as well as the National Archives, the Capitol, the monuments, and even Arlington Cemetery! The convention center where my conference was held was easily accessible using the Metro. The area was safe and there is a 24 hour CVS open if you need to make a trip for ice cream in the middle of the night, as well as a Ben & Jerry's, again w/in 2 blocks. I did not meet one staff person, from the manager to the housekeeper to the waiter who was not friendly and patient, answering my many questions. I ate at the restaurant in the hotel one night and the food was excellent, but expensive. Most nights I stopped at various take-outs and brought the food to my room. There are excellent and unique restaurants that provide take-out and I never had a bad meal. The hotel was full (I w

Simple delightful

I was greeted by a friendly representative at the door. The colors in the room were wonderful and everything was clean. The only problem was with the restaurant. When I walked in I was not greeted nor was I immediately assisted even thought there was not a line. After I was seated I waited 10 minutes before I was greeted by my server. Other than the restaurant incident my stay was very pleasant.

Very accomodating staff and fantastic restaurant!

Really enjoyed our stay. All the staff at the hotel and restaurant went above and beyond to be helpful and provide an enjoyable experience for us. Good location. Everything we were looking for in a small, boutique hotel. However, the bathroom was very tight.

Get a room with a balcony - very spacious. We really enjoyed the free internet and wine hour.

Very nice hotel and excellent location

The discounted rate was great. The room was quite nice. That being said--The air conditioner put out dust and mold such that my allergies were miserable. The housekeeping staff knocked way too early for someone visiting from the West Coast.

My favorite DC hotel

We have stayed at the Madera several times while visiting our son and his family in DC and the Madera has always been what we need--clean, quiet, friendly, roomy, in a neighborhood (Dupont Circle) filled with everything a traveler needs: restaurants, places to buy wine, a drugstore, several bookstores. Even better, this hotel has never seemed "frumpy" or unkempt, and the staff is--I will say it again--friendly and helpful. It's our favorite.
