Trip Type: Romance Review 1 of 23What others have said is correct...
I normally don't review hotels that I book here on Hotels.com. I will make an exception for the Normandy. First, just to clear things up, I took public transit, so I cannot comment on parking. 1) Yes, it was a little bit of a walk from the Metro stop at Dupont. If you are planning to go out and back from Metro to room several times per day, this may not be the place for you. The walk is roughly 8-10 minutes, but through a very pleasant (and rather vibrant) area. 2) The room is small, as people have noted, for American standards. I hate saying this, but it is very much "Euro" in size. I loved it, not b/c it's Euro, but b/c it was cozy! Great four-post bed, amazing bathroom (marble, glass shower!), and yes, the famed espresso machine. I'm not normally a coffee drinker, but this did the trick. So, in my opinion, if you are younger than 40 and traveling with two people and want a safe but fun neighborhood, this is the place for you! If you don't like walking a little and/or need a palace-size room, don't stay here.

Trip Type: Romance Review 3 of 23NIce but not really
We recently returned from a four night stay at the Normandy Hotel. The best thing s to claim are that it is clean and in a quiet neighborhood. There are a few issues that visitor' should be aware of including it is a good ten plus blocks from the metro, but they a very steep blocks especially when you have back problems. Second the rooms have no dresser's and the closets are small and taken up by a safe. We lived out of suitcases. Third the queen size bed was a really a full size. Fourth on the third day the only elevator was broke, so it was the staircase for several trips from the sixth floor, no apologies just a rude desk clerk.Fifth the $12 breakfast was fine but if you came after the first hour there were slim pickings and few tables without dirty dishes to sit.

Trip Type: Romance Review 4 of 23Great Weekend Away in a lively neighborhood
I was primarily looking to stay in DC near the city center (monuments) but in more of a neighborhood - The Normandy Hotel nailed it. It is in a quiet section of DuPont Circle and a short walk down Connecticut Ave, or across Wyoming puts you in fun neighborhood for dining and shopping. Also, the hotel is about a 10 minute walk from the DuPont Circle Red Line (Metro) so once you park, you won't need your car again. The hotel is well appointed - stylish lobby and reception. Depending on your experience, the rooms are more of a European style (not overly large square footage, but very well though out). Very clean, comfortable, well designed room with contemporary finishing. My girlfriend loved the room. We really had a great time in DC, and The Normandy was a great home base.

We enjoyed our stay at the hotel. The environment was pleasant, room is small, but modern and clean.

Small room but I don't mind that . Well furnished -Lovely bathroom, sparkling clean . Great price. I liked finding my way down to Dupont Circle and in to the Mall but it is not close. Loved Dupont circle restaurants at night. The surrounding buildings were posh. We found an overnight/all weekend parking spot but in the week you would have trouble. Just think ahead. It was splendid

Trip Type: Romance Review 7 of 23Pretty good, w/ exceptions...
First I'll start with the pros: Quiet hotel in a quiet neighborhood, heard another guest from inside my room maybe once, never heard anything from the street and my room was on the 2nd floor facing the street. Many of the houses on the street appear to be for foreign diplomats, and embassy row is not too far away either. Great location, near dupont circle and transportation hubs, close enough to downtown to be convenient, but not too close to be a hassle and noisy. The lobby is nice, classy, warm and inviting, elegant but not over the top. Nice inside sitting area and an outside patio in a courtyard. The rooms appear to have been recently re-done (could smell the paint still...), but they were comfortable. Not the best bed I've slept in in a hotel, but pretty good. The staff was (usually) pleasant to deal with, problems were immediately addressed. On that note, the cons: parking - don't expect to park on the street, and don't expect to park in the hotel. I was told originally that all the spots were taken, not until my last day was it mentioned that you could "reserve" one of the 8 precious spots first thing every morning... yes, 8 parking spaces. The staff was a bit snotty when I dared to ask at noon if there was a spot. We parked instead at their sister mariott hotel, two blocks away, for $28/night (same price as the Normandy). Ridiculous, especially since they put it as an advertising point... a complementary valet to the other hotel would have been nice... or maybe at least a shuttle so you didn't have to walk 4 blocks everytime... Oh, and the mariott valet put a nice big scratch/gouge in the bumper of what used to be my pristine, untouched 2007 BMW... ask to park it yourself if you dont mind maneuvering in tight spaces. Breakfast, don't be fooled, no continental breakfast is worth the $10.95 they asked for it; dont bother. The room - our shower didn't drain the first day. Our toilet didn't work the second day. (both were fixed immediately however) And the sink

No parking on street. Must park underneath building for an outrageous fee per night. Basement parking so small that our small dodge avenger had to do 10 point turns to park and enter/exit. Room nice, but small. Not able to control thermostat - really hot in room. had to open windows, but then listened to noisy traffic and airplans all night. Room smelled like paint from recent renovations. Breakfast is a fruit buffet for $8. Stated there is complimentary coffee, but I had to go back to the kitchen to get it, and then were mean about it. Hot/cold with the staff. Close to metro, tho (about a 10 min walk from dupont circle).

Trip Type: Romance Review 10 of 23Outstanding Hotel
We loved the hotel. There was just the 2 of us and it was our first time to DC. The location was perfect. Yes there is a hill to walk up from the Metro, but it was not that bad. We had the queen bed and the room was decorated very nice. Very clean. We will stay here again. No complaints. The staff on the desk were very friendly and helpful. Check in and Check out, took about 1 minute.

The Hotel is located in a very nice area. The rooms are clean, they have cookies every afternoon for tea time! That was a nice detail..! :) Not so close to the metro station (you have to walk some blocks. The walk to Dupont Circle is mostly downhill, so there is no problem walking. In general, the hotel served its purpose and we had a wonderful time with no problems related with the hotel.

This was a very cozy and comfortable hotel. The service at the front desk was fantastic and helpful. Rooms were very nice and it was a joy to stay there for the 3 days we were there. The parking was a little tight underneath the hotel and at $25 a night was a little steep. If it werent for the parking i would have given it a 5.
