Trip Type: Business Review 1 of 5Ok hotel--good service
Rooms are small, as is the case all over Paris, particularly for a single. However, the bathroom was oversized for Paris and very clean and modern. A very good location if you are taking the train the next day from either the Gare de Bercy or the Gare de Lyon. Both train stations are an easy walk from the hotel.

Trip Type: Business Review 2 of 5Good bargain for Paris
The hotel is a little out of the way but the front door is 20' from the Bercy Metro entrance. From there, it's only 30 minutes to any part of town. The area was clean and quiet and appeared fairly safe as I walked around multiple times as late as 3 or 4 AM. The breakfast buffet is typical for European hotels but perhaps a bit more selection with croissants, bagettes, ham, cheese, yogurt, granola, hard boiled eggs, and fruit. There was alwasy someone available to open the front door 24-hours a day so no need to worry about being back by a certain time. The rooms were clean and fresh linens were supplied on a daily basis. There is no air conditioning but the large windows swing open to allow the cool night air to enter the room. The only downside of the this is the close proximity to the train station which meant passing trains at various hours through the night. For the price and location, I would stay at this hotel again. It's not among all the monuments but given the ease of the metro, unless you are travelling at odd times, it is still convenient.

Trip Type: Business Review 3 of 5Clean, convenient, friendly -- and affordable!
Never having been to Paris before, I chose the Hotel Claret based on a combination of its proximity to the Opera Bastille (the primary destination for this trip), the price, and -- of course -- how well-reviewed it was by other Hotels.com customers. I was not disappointed! The neighbourhood, while not all that glamourous, is pleasant and safe enough, if a bit empty after 7pm; much of the surrounding buildings are government offices. Still, there are plenty of lovely little restaurants nearby and I never felt, as a single female traveler, uncomfortable returning to the hotel at night. The room wasn't all that big (it's Europe, after all!), but was very comfortable, and the bathroom larger than I would have expected. The tub was perfect for soaking, which was a delight after long days of walking all over Paris for hours on end. In terms of location, Bercy would seem a little out of the way at first -- but then one discovers that there is a) an airport bus straight to the nearby Gare de Lyon and b) a multi-line Metro station just steps outside of the front door. The Bercy Metro station is served by Ligne 6, which runs between Nation and Etoile (Arc de Triomphe), and Ligne 14, which runs between Olympiades and the Gare St. Lazare. On Ligne 14, it was only 3 or 4 stops to the centre of everything; the Chatelet station, for example, gets you to the Louvre or Notre Dame, and is rather like the Times Square station of Paris (every line under the sun). Incredibly, incredibly convenient. As for the breakfast/no breakfast option: if you're a foodie, skip the breakfast, as it's not all that exciting. If you're on a specific schedule and need the convenience, then the Claret's continental breakfast is just the thing. I would certainly stay at the Claret again on my next visit!

Hard bed, noisy street, poor parking
