very enjoyable stay

The hotel came as advertised. The room was very large and exceeded expectations. The decor, lobby, bar, restaurant were all very beautifully done. The food was very good and the hotel/restaurant staff was very accomadating. Don't expect much from the surrounding area in terms of entertainment but pool and the gym was sufficient and it's an overall excellent deal.

"Better then I expected"

All in all my stay was very pleasant, the staff was outstanding from the valets to the bar tenders. The Room was clean and airy when the balcony door was opened. The pool on the other hand didn't make the cut, it was on the north side of the building little to no sun through the day and too narrow not what I expected from this type of hotel. Stay away from the breakfast eggs, I don't know what they tasted like but it wasn't eggs.

Great Hotel, but bad breakfast experience

We loved everything about Il Lugano except when it came time for breakfast. When we checked in they said we had a free continental breakfast coming to us. Great right? When we got to breakfast, around 9:15a.m., there was nothing left! Two people were cooking, they ran out of bagels, no more juice, etc. Let's just say we left and went to breakfast elsewhere. We were told that they were busier than usual that morning, but that's no excuse. Be prepared!

Five Star Service

A recent stay at the Il Lugano far exceeded my expectations. The hotel is fabulous, the room was outstanding, and the price for the stay was exceptional. Check in was exact, quick, and quite personal. An outstanding star of the Il Lugano was the concierge Alana, who went out of her way to make reservations for me, and to provide me with directions to different locations. Stop in and see Alana on your stay, she is the STAR at this hotel. I cannot thank her enough for her assistance.

Luxury at Lugano!

I was looking for an inexpensive hotel for a 1-night stay in Ft. Lauderdale for a wedding. There are plenty of 2-star on beach options w/ scary reviews. For a little more, I found luxury at Lugano. I arrived early so my room wasn't ready and the staff was so good about keeping me updated and getting me a room as quickly as possible. My room was GORGEOUS! I've lived in smaller apts than my king room which had a full kitchen, dishwasher, balcony even washer/dryer. So new and clean. Cute pool w/ free BBQ, music and waitress svc for poolside drinks. Plus a surprise discovery: little canal-side cabanas if you want a little privacy to sunbathe waterside and watch boats drift by. Citrus punch in the funky lobby w/ fun music while I waited for a cab. Not right on A1A (which is a good thing) and a short walk to an ok beach or a short cab ride to a nicer one. Such a treat! I loved everything about Lugano!

Nice looking but short on hospitality.

The hotel is very nice looking. The rooms are spectacular and the location is great. What I did not like was the lack of response from the concierge service. As a hotel that sells itself very much on it's hospitality I don't think you should have to call 3 times to get a hold of the concierge. Furthermore, I wanted a late checkout and was told that the best they could do was charge me 1/2 a day and I would still have to be out at 5:00 in the afternoon because housekeeping leaves at that time. This was insulting to say the least.

Isolated Jewel

We really liked the kitchen, the washer and dryer, and the balcony--we used the balcony a lot. The complimentary breakfast was a welcome treat--very good pastries and fruit. Although everyone was friendly, having to rely on valet parking was a drag. It's time-consuming and requires lots of tips. It also kept us from being less spontaneous in coming and going. The surroundings of Il Lugano are depressing--lots of tacky, run-down shops and bars. The hotel itself, however, is a jewel.

Beautiful and Comfortable Accomodations!

I stayed at Il Lugano for my first time this past Labor Day weekend. I was extremely impressed by the beautiful lobby and guest check-in area. Our room was more than I could ever ask for...We had the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in, huge flat screen TV, kitchen area, with a very nice bathroom too. The bathrobes were lush and comfortable, and the Bvlgari toiletries smelled delicious. The location was ok, and I say that only because it's not *right* on the beach, it's about 3 blocks down...but conveniently located right around the corner from Taverna Opa, one of the best Greek restaurants in Broward! All in all, I loved this hotel and would recommend it to anyone. : ) -Happy Hotels.com Customer

Impressive Hotel, Obscure location

This hotel is located on Oakland Blvd, about 3 mi north of the Galleria Mall on Sunrise Blvd, making it convenient only if you are willing to drive. Knowing this, do not expect to be able to walk to entertainment because it will be just out of reach. The hotel is beautifully decorated with modern decor and has a contemporary feel. Checking in after 10pm, I found the service prompt and very friendly. The room is adequately supplied with toiletries, refreshments, liquor and snacks, although I did not need any myself. The oceanview is not a full view of the ocean, but rather a long stretch of parking that extends to the A1A blvd and other resorts on the beach. I would recommend the intercoastal view instead. Once they establish the dining lounge, this hotel will essentially have all the amenities you need for business or romantic getaway trips.

Will be visiting again

I was reluctant to book this hotel because I am use to staying at the larger hotel chains. I must say that the Il Lugano is a gem in desguise. I was very impressed from the moment I arrived. Check-in took no longer than 5 minutes if even. The parkign is pretty pricey but it is worth it. I didnt drive my vehicle the entire time I was there. They have two Cadillac Escalades and they will drive you to any location within a 3 mile radius as many time as you want or need. I was there for a little R&R after surgery on my kneww and I didnt need to go any further than 3 miles at anytime. I figure since I drive an SUV I probably would have spent an equal amount of money just driving the local streets. The staff was wonderful and extremely courtious. I definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for some R&R.

Big rooms @ an affordable rate

Ocean view isn't quite the ocean view however. The sea is across the street but in my room there were big buildings in the way and a parking lot that didn't quite let me enjoy the "view." Furthermore valet takes foreverrrrr, call them before you leave your room if you are in a hurry; it's a shame they charge $25 for that service. Also the cleaning service didn't rep[lace the towels and it looked like all she did was make the bed. Positive? It's a beautiful hotel, everything is new, they do provide good customer service other than that, such as directions to anywhere you want to go. They are courteous and the rooms are big big big for the price I got them for.
