Trip Type: Business Review 1 of 13Really Awful
I do not believe they should let people stay in this hotel with all the construction going on. One side of the hotel is having sewer work done so it smells like sewer on that side of the hotel. The other side the walls are not all completed. It would help if the staff was even a little bit pleasant but they are rude. The only nice spot is the front check in.

Trip Type: Business Review 2 of 13Needs a lot of improvment
The price was $39/night, and considering it was a Howard Johnson I thought it was a good deal. Big disappointment! The quality of the sheets and the towels was inferior to what you would find in a Motel 6. The hallways are not air conditioned (or it is insufficient), so they were at a balmy 85-90 degrees. The A/C in my room was running in fan mode when I got there, so the temperature was less than comfortable. That would not have been too bad except for the fact that the maid turns it off after cleaning, so every night I walked into a very hot room that takes almost two hours to reach a decent temperature. Another detail is that they took an imprint of my credit card at check-in. In my previous experiences with Hotels.com that was never necessary. He said is was for "inconsequentials". Well, if it generates a charge on my credit card, it has a consequence, doesn't it? The incident made me uneasy, and to this day I'm expecting and "inconsequential" to show up in my balance.

Trip Type: Business Review 4 of 13Great room for the money
We must have gotten a remodeled room because it was very large, very clean and very comfortable. Microwave and refrigerator were included. We would definitely stay again.

Trip Type: Business Review 6 of 13Nice place
It was really hard to get to because of all the construction around it. It seemed like the rooms were out dated and the beds were uncomfortable. Management was nice enough, however, to open the pool late at our request. And the breakfast area was nice.

Trip Type: Business Review 7 of 13Mgmt is all about your $ and not your needs
I stayed a different location of this same chain the week prior and wanted to book again for another 3 night business stay the following week as the rate and location worked well for my needs. Unfortunately, not being familiar with the city and it's landmarks, I made an error when selecting hotel locations and booked a pre-paid stay for this property by accident (absolutely on the opposite side of town and required a major rush hour commute). I arrived at the location where I had intended to make my reservation and was made aware of my error when I tried to check in. I called Hotels.com and was told that I could switch the reservation but it would be up to this property to allow the correction... needless to say, they wouldn't. After the Hotels.com representative informed me of their unwillingness to help out in this situation, I myself called to speak with the front desk and to ask what the issue was. I was given a variety of run around excuses ranging from "the person who can authorize that is gone for the day and won't be back until the morning", (when pressed further) "she will be at a funeral tomorrow and won't be in at all". It then escalated to "that decision can't be made at the hotel it has to made by the management offices". When asked where the management offices were located, I was informed that they were the same location. You get the idea. This went on for an hour and a half and the excuses just got worse and worse until I was rudely told to book another room there and pay for two rooms. I explained how this was obviously not an acceptable solution to what I perceived to be a simple problem. I was later told flat out that they were absolutely not going to help accomodate me and they would be keeping my money. After a very frustrating back and forth, I finally conceeded and agreed to stay at the location that caused me a tremendous inconvenience due to it's location. The room itself I would describe as "acceptable". It had been given a quickie remodel

Trip Type: Business Review 10 of 13Needs improvement
The only good thing about the hotel was the friendly service at the front desk. The gentlemen were kind and gave me directions to find the location. They also gave me directions on where i could get something to eat and the phone numbers. Housekeepping was rude. The hotel smelled of sewage. I seriosly recommended improvement throughout the hotel.

Trip Type: Business Review 11 of 13Good room for the money.
Door had a tendency to stick, so it was a little hard to open at times. There was a safe in the room, but the door was broken so while we were there we could not use it.

Pro: just off I-35, about 7-10 min from downtown by car, great rates Con: the hotel is older, under new managers, and they appear to be doing some renovations; the fridge in our room had mold; there were still some cracker crumbs on the floor from the previous occupants; the sink stopper came out the first time we pulled it. However, we went to dinner and they vacuumed, cleaned the fridge, and fixed the sink promptly. In short, good for the price and the staff was responsive to complaints. If you just need a decent, inexpensive place to crash for a night or two (and you are not picky / demanding), this may be your kind of place.

Trip Type: Business Review 13 of 13Too expensive for the Quality of hotel
Pros- 1.friendly, curteous, helpfull, staff 2.Convenient location to Ft. Sam Houston and downtown. 3.Decent Breakfast. 4.Large rooms. Cons- 1. Entire hotel seemed old and dirty. 2. Air conditioning in common areas was not adequate. 3. Bathroom tile work was moldy and stained. 4. small t.v. outdated Overall I was not impressed with the quality of this hotel. I would not come back and would not recomend this hotel to anyone. For the price that I paid I expected a MUCH better quality hotel. Price does not mach quality.
