Needs Improvement

Beds were very uncomfortable, if you would like to check in early they charge you an extra $25. Lobby was nice, rooms outdated

If you want a place to stay in a nice area for a great price, this is your hotel. This hotel offers all the basics with no real frills.

Fine place for price

Room was small but satisfactory, clean and quiet, with small balcony. Pool very small and shallow --- hard to do laps in. Breakfast is nothing but toast and canned (!!!) pineapple. But computer facilities are great, location is good, people were nice and responded immediately when a small concern came up. Would stay again.

Worth the money we paid

The major plus point of the hotel was its location and morning breakfast. It has 2 bus stops exactly one in front and one at backside.It also has a trolley stop in front. Which is of great convenience for the tourists. It is located very near to the beach, international market place and other eating joints.

Good Value

The Waikiki Gateway Hotel appears to be an older hotel some distance from the beach. I found the lobby decor interesting & fanciful, & the proximity of a convenience store right outside its mountain-side entrance was very convenient. My room was on the corner at the ocean end of the building giving the room an awkward layout, but affording 2 lanais, with one looking down on the small swimming pool. The furniture was aging, but useful. I had chosen the hotel for it's proximity to central Honolulu. That & the price were deciding factors. I was disappointed that the swimming pool was not heated & the restaurant had been closed, however several restaurants were available on Kalakaua Avenue, near the mountain-side entrance.

Mixed bag

Strong points: low price; good location for those needing to go to a variety of points around the city; front desk, housekeeping, and most other personnel friendly and helpful. Weak points: breakfast was as inconvenient as it was sparse--don't bother; room internet connection worked, but was painfully slow day after day--a major negative if there is a need for conducting business.

Hotel was above my expectations for the price I paid. The proximity to the beach and other businesses was perfect.
