Trip Type: With Friends Review 1 of 77Union Square
The hotel location is great. Right at the Union Square. Everything is a walking distance especially to the bart system. We didn't even have to rent a car. We walk everywhere and took the bart and taxi. It's great!!

The location can't be beat. Everything was excellent. My only comment would be that the doors are very heavy; you can hear the doors near your room closing as you relax in your room. This was in the old tower of the Hotel. The new tower might be different.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 6 of 77Good value if you get a good weekend rate
The Westin St Francis has all the trappings of a old, grande dame hotel and the conveniences of a modern business hotel. That said, it really veers more toward the businessy side especially in the Tower section. Like most mid-level convention hotels, there were some annoying things like rubberized hotel-style wallpaper in the hallways, stain and paint coming off moldings and doors, generic bathrooms, etc. The hotel does have a lot of charm though in the older public areas, and the restaurant Michael Mina right inside the hotel is truly one of SF's best. It's easy to just go eat in the bar area without reservations when you're already staying in the hotel. Anyway, I would recommend this hotel for the business travelers when their company is paying or for weekend visitors when they find a special rate. Oh...the two things thing that turned me off happened at the end of my stay. As I was checking out, I noticed they charged me for minibar items that I had simply removed temporarily and placed on top of the fridge so that I could chill a bottle of white wine. These charges were removed from my bill when I explained, though. The bigger problem was when I went to have my luggage stored for the day. At the bag drop, there seemed to be no one working and a line of about 30-40 foreign tourists who didn't seem sure they knew what they were doing. I finally found the baggage people and asked if I could just drop the bag since I had opera tix for the afternoon and needed to get going. They said I had to get in line and wait. I asked what could possibly be taking so long just to put some tags on some bags, and he responded very gruffly, "We have 600 guests this weekend and only three of us working here." I'm like, "three? it seems like it would just take one person." Then the bag check guy just said, "well, you could always take it with you," very snootily. Besides that, my bag already had two name tags on it; I never understand why I can't just leave it with them when I'm in a

Trip Type: With Friends Review 7 of 77Just okay!
Great location! Was not that impressed with the hotel. They give you exactly 2 towels in your room for 2. Called to get more, but even La Quinta gives you plenty of towels. Under construction so the lobby bar is not open until 4 pm. Not that impressed with the attitude of concierge desk...they act like they are doing you a favor, instead of a service. We had a delivery that we had to call down for instead of them delivering it to our room so if we hadn't called we would not have received. Overall, it was just okay, but I guess I expected more from a Westin property.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 9 of 77Love this Hotel!
Love the location of the Westin San Fran/Union Square! Great rooms and comfortable beds. There was a bit of construction going on in the lobby, but it wasnt a problem. That's the only reason i rated the Condition or maintenance of the hotel poor.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 11 of 77Little dissappointing
The hotel is very historic, has a beautiful lobby however the room was in desperate need of renovation. Very basic looking room. Staff never left enough towels in the bath room. Front desk staff was inconsistent in the level of customer service. The location however was outstanding being situated right at Union Square near the shopping district. I did enjoy hearing about the history of this famous hotel.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 14 of 77Great Hotel
The hotel staff was very accommodating and the location was excellent. All the tour buses picked up directly in front of the hotel and so many areas were within walking distance.
