Great Stay

First time at the El Cortez after many many years at another downtown Hotel.. Although the other hotel was fancier, I liked the El Cortez better. Bigger rooms, wonderfully friendly staff, good restaurants, and cheap gambling!!! Would definitely stay in the Tower rooms again.

Pleasantly surprised

Although it wasn't the lap of luxury, it was exactly what I wanted. It was great considering the low price. Easy to stay there. I WOULD gladly do it again...as long as the price stayed the same!

Good room but bad neighborhood

The El Cortez is a nice hotel, it is just not in a good neighborhood. We had young girls (who are 21) with us and I didn't feel it was safe for them to be in the downtown area at night. There are alot of weirdos and strange people there. I ended up moving them to a different hotel on the strip. That way, at least I knew they could make it back to their hotel at night safely.

Not so good

The hotel was not good, it is far from the strip. For the promotional price, it is OK.

Was a pleasant surprise

I had read reviews on the hotel but was still skeptical. They exceeded our expectations! We will definitely go back in December.

great room for the money, upgraded to suite for free

this hotel has done alot of nice remodeling & upgrades since i last stayed here a couple years ago. i got a smoking unbelievable price for the room, under eleven dollars. yes, that's correct. not only was the price unheard of, they upgraded us to a suite for no reason. even though it's an older hotel, it's nice, clean, pretty and has tons of slots & tables. free parking in two parking garages. it's very close to fremont without being on fremont experience, so you don't get that noise. you can walk to fremont experience. they offer a free shuttle to and from airport and other strip. no buffet restaurant. has a cafe/diner with a primerib special $7.95, an upgraded steakhouse, and i think mexican place. about 2 miles from other strip. a great place to stay.

Veddy Nass

They gave me a free upgrade, quickly brought an iron per my request, and the curtains were blackout. The location was a block away from the Fremont Street Experience, and the other guests were older so it was quiet when I tried to sleep. Veddy nass (very nice).
