El Cortez Hotel and Casino

Great Hotel

This was our second stay at the El Cortez. As I said last year, if you want luxury, go to the strip and pay 3 or 4 times more for a room. If you like to gamble and see shows and just need a clean comfortable and convenient downtown hotel, this is for you. My wife & I always rent a car and go to the strip when we want, but the El Cortez is our place to stay. Odds at the crap table are 10 to 1, so you can make a $3 passline or come bet, then back them up with $30 odds. It's a great combo if someone is rolling numbers. Much better than the $10 min with 2 times odds on the strip.

Cheap room rate, good place for short stay

room was great for the price i paid, very cheap rate for an overnight stay, the only problem was no elevators going to my room but wasn't a problem for me because i packed lightly, have their own parking space and close to the hotel, only problem was the comforter was kind of dirty and feels like re used but i used the sheets instead, the a/c was good as well

Decent Old Vegas Hotel

I got a great deal on the room so I didnt expect much. Checking in took a very long time since there was only 1 person working the desk. I got a room upgrade because they over sold the room I booked which was great. Room was large and clean. The thermostat didnt work well. My boyfriend and I were freezing the first night even though it was set on to be warm. We just gave up on it by shutting it off for the next night and enjoyed the natural warm breeze from the open bathroom mini window. I had to call front desk to send up an iron. The room didnt have a refrigerator or a hairdryer. Hotel was at great location near Fremont downtown. Parking was slightly rough because they closed 2 floors for cleaning. You can hear music coming from Fremont st all night but it was not too loud or annoying (soothing actually). Overall, it was pretty good for the money.

Upscale room without the upscale pricing

First off, let me tell you that the cabana room was amazing. Very comfortable with excellent amenities. The price could not be beat. One block from Fremont Street, "the real Vegas". My only complaint here was that housekeeping came at 8AM. Way too early!!! Would I stay here again? Most likely.

great hotel

I liked the location seems how I wasn't sure exactly where it was, but to my surprise we were right next to many attractions so we didn't spend much time on the strip. We stayed in a room right above the car garage which I liked, you had to have a room key to access the floor we were on and when you stepped out of the elevator you where outside which had to grow on me, mostly because in was 108+ degrees out side but the view we saw as we walked to and from our room was worth it. I wished they had a pool, but they had a great little cafe we loved you got a ton of food for a great price. The black jack dealers were great , very friendly. Overall we had a wonderful stay and will more than likely stay here again.

Remarkable

I can't understand some of the people who reviewed this hotel and gave it such a poor rating. Some complained of the smoke in the lobby (it's a casino, folks). More complained they couldn't get something fixed or the bed was too hard or the surrounding neighborhood. I gotta tell ya', this place was fantastic (yeah, there's homeless out in the streets asking for money, but that's in almost all major cities). There's a large police presence for your protection throughout the city and this place had several security guards and cameras throughout the hotel. My wife and I stayed in the tower on the 12th floor and the elevator wasn't slow. You must use a card to get to your floor and into the room (same card). The bed was very, very comfortable and the staff were extremely friendly and courteous. For the person who complained about the water pressure in the room, grow up. Hotels NEVER have a lot of pressure due to the amount of showers/baths in them and this one had a decent flow. The rooms and hallways were very quiet and we didn't have very much street noise. The hotel is close to the Fremont Street Experience and the north end of the strip, which is the original strip. We had the opportunity to see several bands and the World experience there, which was free and entertaining. We are planning to go back to Vegas for our 30th anniversary soon and we will be staying at the El Cortez.

Cabana Suites

This review is of the new Cabana Suites accross the street from the main hotel. The suites were very comfortable. They featured a large shower, custom furniture, a wonderful bed. The room still had that "new carpet" smell, which my wife didn't like very much. Other than that it is a great value for the price.

Rename to "Motel"

The bathroom is jail size. The tile still has someone else's wash off. Doors are unsecure. The rooms are outside like a motel. They make you pay for internet connection. They still havent reversed the 50.00 deposit. If you have a big butt, you WILL get stuck trying to use the toilet. If you use a wheel chair, not a chance of survival. Horrid. Dirty. Unacceptable.
