Good for the money

Great for a couple of nights stay. Long term maybe not because it does not offer a lot for "in hotel restaurant" nor are there too many restaurants close by to choose from. The hotel is not located near any beaches to walk to, most everything needs a Taxi. We stayed because we were going on a cruise the next day, great accomodations for something like that.

Pokey, but good location and good price

This is one of those condos that didn't sell--and now it's a hotel, of sorts. We had a two bedroom/two bath apartment, kind of pokey, with cheap furnishings (bed's a killer, IMHO) but a lovely view of the water and the super-luxurious hotel next door. There is no maid service. But they did bring us towels, unasked, so that was nice of them. Valet parking is a bother; add a tip to the valet everytime you want to take your car out, plus the $20 per night fee, but the hotel is still a bargain. Our deal came with breakfast for two (the third person had to pay). Not a great breakfast, but sufficient. The location was superb for our needs--we had things to do downtown, on Miami Beach, 8th Street, in Coral Gables and South Miami--so it all worked out well for us. I would recommend this hotel/condo, but with caveats mentioned above. We missed not being in a proper hotel with all the regular hotel amenities.

Needs improvement

The Fortune House was in a good location, but needed a lot of work and a great deal of remodeling. The beds were awful and there was no water pressure in the shower at all. It was nice to have a 2nd bedroom for the kids, but I think this would be more suitable for college students going to Miami for Spring Break. It was fine for one night, but I wouldn't have wanted to stay longer than that.

What a mistake!

What a mistake it was booking this hotel! I have never met so many rude and unfriendly people in a hotel before. I thought there supposed to be some type of hospitality or friendliness. Well, don't expect to get it here. The rooms were not that all clean. Rust stains, hair on the floor, dirty tubs, and leaky faucets. Even the refrigerator was leaking and it smelled funky. Parking was a pain. They only have valet, which is fine if the one lane driveway wasn't backed up all the time. On top of that, they charge an additional $20 for parking for each day. Wish they would've told me that in the beginning. Hospitality at the front desk...well...there was NONE! They don't greet you or smile at you. They make eye contact and then look away. At times, there's no one at the front desk. People just seem to disappear and you just have to wait and hope a person will pop out from behind the desk in time. Worst of all was their restaurant. They were all grumpy because we had a free breakfast voucher with our booking. The restaurant manager was all grouchy and kept on staring at us when we went to get our breakfast. Hey, it was paid for through the booking of the hotel. There was no self-service for the coffee so they had to bring it to you. Well, it took them 20 mins. to get me a cup of coffee. I really dislike this hotel, management, hospitality and service, which there was none. For my first trip to Miami, I really did not enjoy my stay one bit. Take my advice, if you want service, friendliness and an enjoyable place to stay...DON'T stay at the Fortune House!

Good Room for the Money

I was very pleased with our room. It was big and comfortable. We needed a roll-a-way bed and it was brought up very quickly! The comp breakfast was not great, but it filled our empty stomaches. The Staff was very friendly and helpful! Would definately stay there again.

Great location to cruise ports, not very clean

This hotel was nice for families in that our room had two separate bedrooms and baths, a living room, balcony, washer and dryer, and kitchen. It was not clean or particularly comfortable, though. Also, nothing seemed to work- from the TV remote to the washer and dryer to windows (all painted shut). the The gym and lobby were in much better condition than our room. For one night at a reduced rate, this room was ok. NOTE: there is absolutely no food within a close walk besides the over-priced vending machines.

Nice Hotel

We were given a two bedroom, two bath room with a full kitchen. It was very nice.

Stretching your dollars in luxury

If you're looking to crash somewhere for a day or two before boarding a cruise ship, then you need not lok any further. This place is awesome if you're looking for a feeling of luxury at a fraction of the cost. The hotel foyer is absolutely stunning, the receionist(s) were marvelous and room was remarkable. Well, except for the small hiccup we had with our first room, which had a white sofa that had seen better days(hint it wasn't white anymore). We expressed our displeasure about the sofa and were upgraded to the penthouse suite, where we were treated to a sensational hi-rise view of downtown Miami. We enjoyed the accommodations so much that we intend to come back at some point for a quick wekend getaway. I highly reccommend this place!
